Google Fold or Hold for Fold 5

The deals for the Fold 5 are intriguing. Verizon has $1000 off with me trading in my Pixel 7 pro. That makes it $22ish per month for 36 months. The only thing I'm concerned about is the durability and longevity of the Fold 5. I'm tempted to replace my Tab S8 and Pixel 7 pro with the Fold 5. Being able to have a tablet and a phone in one is attractive to me. I don't think I'll have any issues selling my Tab S8.

Even with upgrading my data plan to be eligible with an additional $10/month, it's still half of what I'm currently paying per month on devices.

I'm going to mull it over for a few days.

Durability is definitely something to consider. I have a Flip, and even though I love the little thing I know it's screen isn't going to last as long as a solid glass screen on a slab phone. Slab screens will last virtually forever if you take care of them. A flexible constantly bending screen not so much unfortunately.

If your Fold 5 is going to be doing double duty and you plan on keeping it for 3 years I would definitely get some good insurance on it 😉

Personally I like having a tablet for big screen things, I love having the Flip for the size, but I also have a P6Pro because I know I can count on it to go the distance.. even if my Flip decides to let me down 😳

Think it through before you decide to put all your eggs in one basket 😉

I always bluff myself out of upgrading each year ("not worth it", "minimal upgrade", etc .....), and then end up getting the newest phone...... But, I am actually not upgrading from the Fold 4. I am genuinely disappointed in the Fold 5 only being a minor refinement. It is literally the same phone with exception of hinge and chip........NO WOO!..

On to the pixel fold.....maybe

No WOO!? I think that's the first time I've heard that 🤣

It's still early lol...

Y'all never know when that urge kicks in again haha
I have added phones to carts in multiple stores many times and have been close to hitting that last button. But I always resist the urge for some reason. Mainly because my wife gives me a hard time whenever I switch phones. She doesn't have a problem with it as long as it doesn't end up costing us more. I took on more debt when I traded in my S22+ for my Pixel 7 pro. But it was only $10 more a month. I'm still technically paying for the S22 plus through Samsung financing as well as the Tab S8 and watch 5. I could sell my Tab S8 and pay it and my phone off but I like having a big screen.

Using ZF3 since release and dropped it couple of times (closed). Still working great. Am not worried about durability at all (never had insurance either).

Does the phone feel premium to you? I just can't get past paying $1800 for a device with a plastic screen. I held the Fold 4 at a Best Buy and it kinda annoyed me feeling the screen.

Foldables and flip screens are a compromise yes there's a crease but you really don't notice it on either. I've used a flip from gen 3 and never had an issue with a crease malfunction. However the protector in the Zflip3 did crack and Samsung replaced free of charge.

Currently using a ZFold4 and great so far no issues. I use the Moto Razr+ as my everyday phone and the ZFOLD4 for work, media, and whenever I need a tablet experience. Love using 2 devices, if Moto came out with a fold, I'd probably switch because it struck me now that I have a comparison.

The UI on the Razr is a much cleaner experience than the Samsung devices. Close to a PIXEL experience!

Ive only had the Fold4 since Feb 2023 and love it........the small iterative changes with the Fold5 and no camera updates makes me want to wait for the fold 6.

In comparing the price of the 2 phones, does Samsung give a better trade (assuming one is trading )? I know that Samsung pays $1,000 for a Fold 4 and $800 for a Fold 3, is that better than Google?

Google did at preorder but the difference is Google waits until they get your device to credit you and Samsung gives the credit immediately at checkout

I haven't quite decided yet but at the US Samsung site......the promo was amazing.Zflip5 Blue 512gb custom+buds 2 pro and with discounts/trade in grand total came to 150$usd.
I've been listening to alot of the reviews online and with the iterative update and limited function of the outer screen, I'm not sure if I should wait for the flip6. With more enabled functionality.

I would jump it will have app function on the front display with Good lock and at that price its a upgrade from flip 4 in my opinion.
