Starting this past Sunday my Google maps location has been hundreds of miles wrong.

I am in Central NJ, and it is showing me in Pennsylvania. I am running stock Android. Everything that reports a location (like Beautiful Widgets weather) shows that I am in the incorrect location.

I deleted my Google maps cache, but that did not help. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Which location services do you have selected? Try selecting all three: VZW, standalone, and Google. Try downloading a GPS assistance app such as GPS Status or GPS Test and see if the AGPS info helps narrow your location

When I first installed beautiful widgets it showed me cross country even further. Not sure why, but mine was cleared up either by itself, or via a rom flash.

gps is one of the biggest complaint of 2.1. the best my gps ever was was on DJ05. it does work great on eb01. you will find many limitations of stock. are you willing to try and root?

What rom version are you using?

Are you using WiFi? One possibility is that it is locating off of WiFi. Not sure about the details, but Google can try to guess where you are by the WiFi IP address. If your ISP is actually located a good distance from where you are, that may be the location that it is giving.

Maybe its the power that be telling u to move out of NJ. Lol

If only I could get out of here.

I am running stock android 2.1, I am not rooted.

Another thing to point out...my neighbor pointed out a brand new cell tower that some guys were putting up about a block from my house. I could see the men climbing around on it working. Could this new cell tower somehow be negatively effecting me?

I think I am going to have to take the plunge and root and flash a rom, but KNOW that the day I do that, 2.2 will be made available by Verizon.

I have the same problem

I recently have had the same problem. Stock phone non rooted. I even tried resetting the device several times. It will show me in the correct location then when it refreshes I'll magically be another state away. I have all three location services checked and am on the latest update.

THEN GET TO WORK MAN!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, you wont regret it. It couldn't be easier, and you couldng have found a better place to go either. AC has some really good folks here that enjoying helping out.

You would be doing a lot of people a HUGE favor if that's the way things work for you, so the masses can finally have Froyo :D

I would also say root and upgrade to one of the Froyo ROMs. For a beginning rooter, I would suggest one of DroidXcon's all-in-one ODIN packages here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ged-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-04-a.html

Then when Verizon releases official Froyo, you can follow the directions here to go back to a stock state to receive the official release:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ls-trade-troubleshooting-returning-stock.html

Then a few days after the official release, come back here as the devs will have released custom ROMs based on the official release, flash one of them and you will never go back to a stock state or have a desire to receive an official release from Verizon again.

Also if you are going to take the plunge to rooting, you can increase your knowledge base by reading these threads if you have not already:
