Google Maps update reboots phone

lol. I was wondering the same thing. If the fix is up to HTC, we'll all have Android 6.x phones before it gets fixed.

If it's up to Google (I thought it was), I'm hoping within a week or two. HTC would be the one to make it take that long somehow, though.

I am not blaming HTC here at all, they already have a fix, it's called version 4.3.605.2 (currently available in RUU format only), why would they waste time to fix something that isn't broken to them? Their "current" version works fine with Maps, it is VZW who isn't letting the update out yet... Verizon should have been pushing that update out already, at the first time point that it was confirmed the 4.3.605.2 version was stable and the "official" VZW software release was the problem with a core app like Maps, and this whole thing would be a mute point, plus other issues like high temperature, poor battery life, signal drops, etc., would be resolved for many people at the same time!

Of course, this will just push thousands of people away from Maps and to other apps like Waze and the like and away from HTC and towards Moto or whatever, [conspiracy] and we all know VZW doesn't really like Google or HTC... so maybe... you connect the dots [/conspiracy]

Unless I missed it, it kind of surprises me AndroidCentral hasn't said anything about this on the main page. While it's in some way amusing to see folks asking the same questions about these reboots in several threads it would be nice to see the problem being acknowledged on a larger scale.

Though it's great the latest leaked RUU works fine with the latest version of GM, folks shouldn't have to resort to installing unofficial software to get an official update of a an app to work. That's the world upside down.

Eh, the fact that it fixed maps and nav was a bonus. I was more interested in the radios, firmware and other bright, shiny things. That's the world in fast-forward.

Question: Does anyone have an idea of why the additional components of the ICS update were not included with the original update? It took Verizon so long to get us ICS in the first place, why not include the rest of the update with it? Now we wait again.

The core of the firmware is completely different, new kernel, new radios, new firmware, new features, new recovery, tons of stuff is different... My guess is they had some issues in the lab or in testing with going from Gingerbread directly to the 4.3.605.x release, so they made an intermediate release to get things ready for the "real" update, and in the process were able to get most of the features in there. Once that rolls out completely they could safely go to the current release.

My apologies - this time - to HTC. I did not know that the upcoming OTA fixed the Maps bug.

Now, back to waiting on Verizon ... business as usual.

Others are right about the upcoming Verizon OTA - the bad release of Maps works fine after flashing the RUU.

It has fixed it for me. Many others in Google Play comments are reporting the same across all HTC phones that had the problem.

Seems to be decent. I'm not getting a GPS signal here in my office, but it's got directions and a general idea of my location through cell service. No reboots as of yet with the newest version of maps.
