Google maps Voice Navigation does not work with Bluetooth enabled

The issue is with Android/Google Maps. With iOS in Google maps once in Nav mode you have an option in settings for HFP, this is "Hands Free Mode" This allows the audio to pass through a s phone response and thus the audio through the car headset. This is handy if you want to listen to Messages as well but for some reason, the feature is omitted by Google. In WP and iOS this woks great for listening/sending messages without ever picking up the phone.

Compare the Navigation settings from the Android and iOS versions of Google Maps.

I wish Google would add the option of "Play as Bluetooth phone call".

If I want to have the navigation through my VW Golf (64 plate) speakers, I need to put the car stereo into Media mode and on Bluetooth, then drive in silence unless I stream music or radio from my phone. At least with my work iPhone, I can have the radio or an SD Card on and the music stops for the *navigation* phone call, then continues with whatever was playin after directions finish.

Thank you! Totally fixed the issue! With these steps I can have Bluetooth and hear the awesome Waze chick.

This solution worked for me. It was supplied by a member called "beesee". In my Toyota when I went to settings - bluetooth I found MULTIMEDIA as a Paired Device. Its obviously named different in each car. Following is the solution from user "beesee" that worked for me.

"By trial and error I finally fixed the problem. I went to my phone's Settings > Bluetooth and found SYNC as a Paired Device. I tapped on the gear icon to the right of the word SYNC and noticed both the Call audio and Media audio Profiles were checked.

I unchecked Media audio and now I can still make calls and play my iPod through voice commands using Sync Bluetooth AND I can also hear Navigation voice directions through my phone speakers.

With this method I cannot stream audio from my phone to my car's speakers but I never did that anyway.

Solution for Hyundai Sonata:
1. remove any media. (In my case it is only the CD)
2. Press MEDIA button. The screen will say No Title/ NO Artist.
3. Make sure your phone is paired. Check "Play Over Bluetooth" box in your Android phone Navigation settings,
Now the navigation talks over Bluetooth!. However, It will stop if you switch back to radio.

I have a 2014 Subaru Outback & a Samsung Galaxy S6. I'm having the same problem with the Google Maps Voice not coming through the Bluetooth. If the Bluetooth is not working then the voice comes through the speakers just fine. Like the others posted, the voice would override whatever media or audio that was playing (incoming or outgoing phone calls, radio, iPod, Amazon Prime Music playing through my phone, etc...). I've followed the steps in the Google Maps settings ("play Voice during phone calls" and "play voice over Bluetooth" & volume on the loudest setting) and they match what has been posted in the great visual of the settings. I've even tried going through the Bluetooth Settings to click on/off the audio and media settings separately then both of them, every which way possible, and it still doesn't work. I went to Sprint and they said it was a Bluetooth issue and to un-pair it and re-pair it and that should fix the problem but it didn't. So frustrating and time consuming as it defeats the whole purpose of having the Bluetooth to voice turn-by-turn directions! Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks so much!

It doesnt work, with any android version. It is a googlemaps error and they are not bothering to fix it. I have tried three different cars and three different makes of phone with different versions of android. The advice of trying AudioBT is a good one, these are android add ons which force google maps to do what it should and that is mimic a call and interupt your music/radio etc that is playing on your cars unit. The fact google maps has a toggle switch for 'Play over bluetooth' means they think it work which it may well do on one specific car, but I have tried 2016/2015/2008 and none work as it should. I am currently testing other NAv apps as to be honest google is by no means the best of them. Good luck with it.

The odd thing of this is that my voice nav was working fine in my new Ford F150 with my LG G4 until last week, when suddenly the voice nav wouldn't work. I'm irritated beyond belief that it just won't anymore.

Agreed, WtF!! My GS7 used to have a setting that said "Play navigation voice over BT" or something like that. I unchecked it so I could still have phone calls and music/media played over bluetooth, but not the nav directions. Now that option is gone and my Nav doesn't speak anymore because it's trying to play through the BT, which isn't selected when I'm listening to the radio or Ipod. Stupid.

It's in the Google maps settings there is a thing that says play over Bluetooth play voice over Bluetooth and then you can test the sounded should come through

Google Maps test voice would play fine but voice navigation wouldn't work, nor did it play on the car audio system. (My Mazda handles calls and music fine.) I found a solution I'm hoping will stick!

Voice navigation did not work on phone or car - these settings got it working:
- In the Menu (hamburger) I set "Wi-fi only" to ON
- Menu> Settings > Navigation Settings > "Play voice over Bluetooth" to OFF
- Menu > Settings > Notification > Navigation > "ETA on connect to car bluetooth" to OFF
