Google Messages One UI Update

Good question , I'm not sure could be but good thing is we can manually update to latest .
The 7.9 version wasn't beta and updating broke it so looks like manually for now .
Yeah I'm glad we can manually update and that the version number is greater than what is in the Play Store so that we don't have to avoid updating. I have done that for certain apps in the past where I didn't like the new version and it is extremely annoying to have to avoid updating only one app. It's nice that we can update and leave it alone for a while rather than constantly being on an older version.

Agree

I got the unwanted update as well. I was going to hold off on updating but since you linked the fix above, I just did that. This is beta apparently. I wonder if it would be part of the normal beta program? Anyway, I think the update which breaks the original One UI look is because of this?

I had not received the notorious update, but switched to the version you linked when I saw your post anyway just to avoid the inevitable. Guess I'm used to the new look.

Ah, you know what, I'm in the beta for messages so that could be why. If you're not in beta, you wouldn't have got the update yet.

That is most likely it for sure. I was in beta but left when this new UI came out so I wouldn't keep having to ignore updates as often.
