Google Nexus 6 on T-Mobile

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

I was able to checkout the Nexus 6 for an hour at T-mobile earlier tonight. The T-mobile I went to didn't have it out on display yet so the manager had to go get it from the back. First off the Nexus 6 feels 100 times better in my had then the Note 4, the build quality is on par with the iPhone 6/6+, the OS for the Nexus 6 feels buttery smooth (way better then the Note 4 and probably as good or better then the OS for iPhone), the camera for the Nexus 6 seemed as good as the Note 4 but I honestly couldn't tell since both phones take very good pictures. The Nexus 6 took pictures very quickly (I didn't test out HDR mode), apps loaded up very fast (faster then the Note 4 most of the time), some apps took a little longer to load but never felt slower to open compared to the Note 4. The display on the Nexus 6 is very good (very close to how good the display is on the Note 4), I did notice that the display wasn't as bright as the Note 4 but felt that the brightness was good enough for me. The speakers sounded as loud as the Note 4 but the Nexus 6 sounded like it had a better quality sound. Overall I had a better experience using the Nexus 6 for an hour then the 14 days that I had the Note 4. I also had a chance to test the phone on AnTuTu benchmark and Geekbench 3 (apologies for the image quality and the fingerprints that are all over the phone).

I actually think in build quality wise the iPhone 6 and 6 plus with its rounded corners but dislike the bands for the radios > note 4 with the metal band chamfered edges and soft touch plastic of the white model > nexus 6. Software wise I love it as much as you can love stock android and it was fluid. Guess I'll go try it out again tomorrow and the camera. I think the dealbreaker for me is if it doesn't allow data and talk on Verizon I might stick with my note 4

The Nexus 6 felt better in the hand then the Note 4 even though its a bit larger. The Nexus 6 felt thinner in my hand then the Note 4 or the iPhone 6/6+ (even though its not). The Nexus 6 wasn't slippery to hold in my hand like the iPhone 6/6+. Also I felt the build quality is as good or almost as good as the iPhone 6/6+ and for sure better then the Note 4. The design and build quality of the Nexus 6 seems like it would hold up better then the Note 4.
Design: iPhone 6/6+>Nexus 6>Note 4
Comfort: Nexus 6>Note 4>iPhone 6/6+

This is my opinion of the 3 phones but design and comfort goes as

iPhone 6 and 6 plus > note 4 > nexus 6

I just really don't like the design language of the moto x or Motorola in general imo. The nexus 6 is ok though. Like it better then the note 3

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

I would like a screen comparison from a visibility sense between the Note 4 and the Nexus 6. What I mean is, open the same web page in Chrome on both phones and see which one shows more content. The screen size difference should account for a few lines, but in my experience, The Note 4 shows way too little content for its size thanks to an inflated DPI (NOT PPI, they are different) so I'm curious how the Nexus 6 stacks up. The 6 Plus typically fits more on screen than the Note 4 does despite the smaller size, for example.

I'm going to my local store today, but I don't expect them to have one. Doesn't matter though, my 14 day trial of the 6 Plus is over and it's time for it to go back.

Where in Brooklyn?
There is none in the Midtown Manhattan stores.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Having had one in hand last night, I can say what I've always known it to be-----a big Moto X. The weight is awkwardly positioned on the Nexus, though. It's top heavy. If you're used to using a Note 4 (which is far easier to hold with it's thinness and textured back), you should be fine with the Nexus 6. It does wobble on a flat surface, but that's fine.

Display isn't bad and it isn't great. I couldn't test it in day light, but I'm guessing it's fine for everything other than that. You can notice a difference if you've got a Note 4, but hardly a deal breaker.

Camera app is slow to launch, slow to focus, slow to process. Shutter speed is quick so you can snap a bunch of pictures quickly, but the slow auto focus is going to make getting a good shot of a moving object such as kids/pets infuriating. HDR+, which is usually the difference between a good shot and a bad one takes a good 4-5 seconds to process. If you've used a Nexus 5, you're used to taking pictures on a Nexus 6. Image quality is no doubt better (not in the same league as the Note 4/iPhone 6+), but you'll be happy with the results regardless.

The encryption thing is overblown. You won't notice this phone being slow unless animations bother you.

Can't help but be "meh" about this phone, though. It's big for no reason and doesn't offer anything different you don't already get on the Nexus 5/Moto X. If Lollipop had software that catered to the big screen and they didn't omit the Moto X stuff, it'd probably be exciting. Others that don't care should love this phone, though.

Fast forward to 3:40 to see the answer to your question in chrome if you don't want to watch the entire thing. Both phones show the same content.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Wasn't yellow.. It was pretty bright from what I saw in the store... but the lighting in a Mall T-Mobile store are not exactly flattering to start with... They kind of had it sitting by itself.. Didn't even have a tag on it and no other phones close enough to set them side by side and of course it was anchored down...

I thought the screen looked amazing.... But that is open for interpretation...... Your opinion may differ from mine.....

Was there any T-Mobile carrier bloat on there, and if there was, was it able to be uninstalled?

No bloat. It's still a Nexus in that regard.

No bloat!

Awesome! Just ordered my Spigen case then, it will arrive Wednesday... I was having a bit of a decision issue between this and the Note 4. I have a note 3 and my biggest pet peeve is the inability to disable Samsung garbage. Not that it really affects anything at all performance wise but every time I uninstall a launcher and deal with touchwiz before I install another one, I am reminded that I have to cover everything up to make it look stock. This bothers be endlessly. It is a matter of principle.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

My main concern is how well is the phone reception. That was the big reason I left the N5. I am reading all the reviews and do far that has been left out. As for the speed of loading apps the phone could not be any laggier than the note 3. I know the phone will receive an update out of the box and is using a differnt runtime. Some developers may not have updated their apps to run smoothly with the new runtime. Your thoughts.

Reception is going to be tricky... I turned the WiFi off on the Nexus 6 I played with in the T-Mobile store and it had "More Bars" and what seemed to be a stronger signal than my Nexus 5 on the same T-Mobile network.. Speedtest runs on both devices on LTE only had the Nexus 6 just slightly faster.. 1 - 3 Mbps on Average but it wasn't dramatically different or better, I ran it 5 times and started them at the same time... The 6 always seemed to finish the test a hair faster (Maybe a second faster) I don't know how it works in the back ground on that App so that could be pointless... A crowded mall on a Friday night could affect some of those results...

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

If it's as good as the note 3, that's good enough for me. I don't really use my phone in the sun. I've read several reviews that said it was pretty bright.

What about the speakers, were they loud?

Speakers were a night and day improvement over the Nexus 5... But that isn't really saying much... If there has been one sore spot with the Nexus 5 it was that single mono speaker and it's location.. The 6 was a lot better but again.. Crowded mall on a Friday night... So I could say much to the detail of the sound with all the background noise around me... but I know with my 5 in that same situation to hear anything I'd have to have the volume all the way up and holding it up to my ear if I wanted to hear even some of it.. I could comfortably hold it at arms length and hear the couple of youtube video's I played pretty good.... in a quiet room and a less crowded area it should do a great job...
