Google Nexus 6 on T-Mobile

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

That's awesome!

I should revise that to............. It did have the My T-Mobile App.... but I went into the play store and uninstalled it.... Rebooted the phone and it doesn't reinstall... I think @askdes on Twitter said it downloads that app the first time you pop your T-Mobile SIM in but it was removable.. I was concerned if it would try and reinstall... after two reboots and another 15 - 20 minutes of playing with the phone it never showed back up again.... But other than that there was nothing else but Google Goodness installed...

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

My main concern is how well is the phone reception. That was the big reason I left the N5. I am reading all the reviews and do far that has been left out. As for the speed of loading apps the phone could not be any laggier than the note 3. I know the phone will receive an update out of the box and is using a differnt runtime. Some developers may not have updated their apps to run smoothly with the new runtime. Your thoughts.

Phil and Jerry noticed some issues with the radios and discussed it in the latest podcast.

I think the nits was around 250 range while the note 4 was around high 300 or low 400 range? You can definitely tell the difference between the note 4 and nexus 6 should you bring it outside a lot but not enough to change your mind if it isn't a huge deal to see outside

250 nits?! thats not enuf!

I mean, in pre kitkat days, more than 50% of what you were doing was with a black background, but now that Google has flipped Android on its head and has added soooo much "white", i will bet the lack of brightness is tons more noticeable & its going to be harder for a "pick-i-yune" user (me) to overcome.

Not that Google will "miss my sale", but just the same, i think i'll stick with my Note 4 tyvm - speaking of which, i'm surprised my Note 4 hasn't blown up on me the way i been eyeing the Nexus 6, but she can relax now, "Google, i'm out!

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Having had one in hand last night, I can say what I've always known it to be-----a big Moto X. The weight is awkwardly positioned on the Nexus, though. It's top heavy. If you're used to using a Note 4 (which is far easier to hold with it's thinness and textured back), you should be fine with the Nexus 6. It does wobble on a flat surface, but that's fine.

Display isn't bad and it isn't great. I couldn't test it in day light, but I'm guessing it's fine for everything other than that. You can notice a difference if you've got a Note 4, but hardly a deal breaker.

Camera app is slow to launch, slow to focus, slow to process. Shutter speed is quick so you can snap a bunch of pictures quickly, but the slow auto focus is going to make getting a good shot of a moving object such as kids/pets infuriating. HDR+, which is usually the difference between a good shot and a bad one takes a good 4-5 seconds to process. If you've used a Nexus 5, you're used to taking pictures on a Nexus 6. Image quality is no doubt better (not in the same league as the Note 4/iPhone 6+), but you'll be happy with the results regardless.

The encryption thing is overblown. You won't notice this phone being slow unless animations bother you.

Can't help but be "meh" about this phone, though. It's big for no reason and doesn't offer anything different you don't already get on the Nexus 5/Moto X. If Lollipop had software that catered to the big screen and they didn't omit the Moto X stuff, it'd probably be exciting. Others that don't care should love this phone, though.

The only difference I could notice between the display of the Note 4 and the Nexus 6 is the max brightness. If you changed the background of the Nexus 6 to a more HD background you would be able to see that the display quality of both phones are very similar(obviously the Note 4 display is still better). I myself didn't notice that the camera app was slow to launch, the time to focus was no different then the Note 4, I didn't get to test out HDR+ but I will today.

Nexus 6 has 270 nits vs the Note 4 having 468 nits to be more exact.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

I am jealous because I really want to see nexus 6 in person but no T-Mobile store in my area....I have schedule ship from AT&T on 11/18...I am not sure that my local sprint will have demo unit yet..I will try Monday...

Want to see more impression of anyone have seen nexus 6 in store...

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

I am going tomorrow by tmobile, sprint and att to see if I can find one to play or buy and taking my One Plus One and Note 3 to compare against. Will report back.

Ian B

Went today to Best Buy Sprint AT&T and none of them had it on display. I went to the T-Mobile store on 1431 and 183 here Cedar park Texas and they did have the demo. They had to go get it from the back but the manager brought it for me to look at a play with it. I had my one plus one phone as well as my Note 3 to compare sizes against his Nexus six.

Both of my phones were just slightly smaller or thinner than the Nexus six but the difference is hardly noticeable. Specially at the top. Did not feel like it was going to slip out of my hand like people were saying because of the back, yes it's smooth but it's still had grip and in my case it won't matter as I will have it on the case.

Self-worth felt very smooth and the pixels for all the apps were beautiful to look at. I forgot to test how bright it was so when I go back next Wednesday I will give that a shot but it was pretty bright at the level that it was today. It felt very comfortable in my hand The whole time just like the one plus one and the note 3. They will have them for sale next Wednesday the 19th and I can buy it off contract full retail price of 649. That is my plan so I can go ahead and get it unlocked to use with straight talk. They're not able to do a pre-order or hold it for me on Wednesday. If I'm not able to get one on Wednesday that will be fine, as I have a Motorola already on pre-order and pay for that will be delivered by December 2.

That's all that I was able to get from my 10 minute holding the phone today, but I think it will be a solid buy since I should be able to get $300 for the one plus one and $300 for my note 3.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Went to T-Mobile in LA area. The sales person said they didn't have a display unit and went to talk with the assistant manager, the assistant manager told her that they couldn't open up a box but if I wanted to look at the box I could and buy it if I like what I saw. I told her that if she would sell it to me I would buy it right now. She said, OK and asked for my phone number, checked my account. Then she asked a sales guy near her if he'd sold a nexus 6 yet, he said that they weren't supposed to sell it until the 19th. She told the guy, "Assistant Manager told me I could sell it" the guy then said, "I wouldn't do that" which got her nervous and then she asked the assistant manager again. The AM said if it rings up you can sell it. She still was nervous so she told me she was going to call the manager. The manager even told her that if it rang up she could sell it. Then a couple other sales people told her not to do it. She then told me she didn't want to take the chance so I asked if anyone would sell it to me. No one would, the assistant manager then said maybe they should wait. So close, yet so far away.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Called all 6 T-Mobile stores around me and none of them had demo units available, sadly. Gonna be picking one up on Monday at Sprint, but still would've been nice to actually hold the phone in hand instead of just the cardboard cutout I've been holding the past couple weeks haha

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Where in Brooklyn? I live out in Long Island but every store I called didn't have em'

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Just played with one at the Mission Viejo mall store and almost switched from Verizon to T-mobile on the spot. Unless you are a huge fan of iOS or have to have an S pen and/or Touchwiz, this phone is the best bar none right now. Its display is big and beautiful, it is blazingly fast, and I will have one the day I can get it from Verizon (my contract is up this month).

EDIT: I had no way of measuring brightness in NITS but any brighter (was on auto brightness in a very well lit store) and it would be uncomfortably bright to my eyes anyway).

It is available for sale in the Court st TMobile store in Brooklyn.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

I stopped by T-mobile to check out the phone, didn't see it displayed so I asked someone. They went and got it out of the back, I had a real limited time with it, they were cool to let me check it out but for some reason I rushed checking it out. After walking out I was kicking myself for not speeding more time with it. My main objective was to just feel it in the hand and see if the size was to much and it wasn't for me.

2 things I wish I would have done while it was in my hands was turn off auto brightness and turn it all the way up to see how bright it can go and to see if I could use one hand to operate.

I played with it also. It is not bright enough.

I'm thinking of refusing delivery since I cannot cancel.

I have used 4.4 on my Nexus 5 and now running Lollipop on it. I was getting 1-2 bars of signal where I live, now I'm getting at least 3. I think Lolly has improved the software to make reception better.

Re: T-mobile has them on the floor

Motorola has the reputation for making the best cell radios in the business bar none (they actually invented the cell radio) so personally that is the least of my concerns...
