Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Re: NEXUS 6 on VZW

I didn't think there would be any issues as we've seen from several sources but some people are so paranoid on the message boards that it won't work. I assume you got it from Moto since they shipped before Google.

No problem with anything else. Messages, calls, data, all work fine.

Re: NEXUS 6 on VZW

It seems everyone is saying something like: "Just get a nano SIM on your current phone, and put it into the nexus when it comes."

Unfortunately, I plan on selling my old phone after I get my nexus, and from my experience, people are hesitant to buy it without a SIM in it already. Therefore I need to have two SIMs, technically. Ideally I would want to walk into Verizon with my nexus and just ask them to put a sim in and activate it with my current number. But that seems like it won't be able to happen :S

Re: NEXUS 6 on VZW

Here is what is sad, AT&T, TMobile, and Sprint have all made some announcement about this phone. The largest cell provider has not. Proving they only care about part of their customer base. This is an abomination. I am seriously considering moving back to AT&T with their branding on the phone or not. The only reason I left AT&T was because of their crappy overloaded towers.....Decisions decisions

PS I have made it a personal mission to hit Verizon's twitter account for answer. They finally answered me today with a see our news page link. Which the only recent phone news is of course the Droid Turbo. AT&T chimes in the tweet with we want you back ! Funny stuff

LOL good stuff! I agree, abomination 1000%. Only way to get it to work on their network it seems that is "fool proof" is you have to be an existing customer with a nano-sim phone and just swap it out/in. There's other ways, but they look possibly more problematic.
Just plain stupid IMO by them

Verizon? Stupid? D'oh!

Re: NEXUS 6 on VZW

Care to elaborate on why you changed your mind?

In my car I was thinking how a Droid Turbo would at least work. All of the Moto apps are nice. But then I realized I already have a 2014 Moto X that I could play with when the lollipop update came to a VZW phone. In the end I figured I could just do without VISUAL voicemail for a month or so.

I don't agree. The experience is not up to par with this phone. There are apps I normally use that don't work, and can't be worked around. I understand VZW not making an announcement until everything works properly. The customer experience with the hardware is fine for the person that understands that they may have to tinker with the phone, but the average consumer would return the phone because not everything works.

This is part of the early adopter tax.

Have you tried setting up Google Voice? I have had both, and right now have Visual voicemail forced on me b/c of HD calling. I prefer the Google Voice experience because I read my VM as often as I listened to it. I also liked having it in hangouts, in my dialer, and in my email. I think you would find the in the dialer aspect as least as good as Visual . . .

And for this reason, I believe it's best that we are waiting. They want to give us the best product they can. Where's the problem w/ that? If they give us something early, that is buggy, people will complain about that. If they wait to give us a better product, like they seemingly are, people will complain about that also. It's a lose/lose situation for them. Regardless, it would be nice to have a timeline but timelines in technology mean jack as far as I'm concerned.

Who ever said it's gonna be flawless? Was it the excessive punctuation marks and random capital words? They can be little devils from time-to-time.

Nothing is flawless. They just seemingly have standards higher than everyone else. When you're the best coverage and have a reputation to uphold, you gotta go the extra step. Some call it controlling, I call it good business practice.

Was I the only one that laughed at the idea of Verizon having higher standards? Their coverage is top notch above anyone else but any higher standard comes to a dead stop right there. Can we flash back all the way to the Thunderbolt? Maybe that's too far. Shall we go with the last time they had a shot at having a Nexus on their network and dragged their feet with it then too and still the phone had issues? Those are two examples of how many others that I am sure people can come up with so there go the "higher standards". Verizon drags their feet with the Nexus line in particular as they know the owners will do exactly what they don't want them to do, root and completely remove their bloat. Now, someone could even come back with the argument that they try to keep customers from rooting to protect them then too, but only a corporate shill would even dare. In the end, it has nothing to with standards or good business practices and everything to do with control.

I wish Verizon would announce availability on contract pricing as my contract is up on November 29th and I seriously want this phone! If I spend $650 and this phone becomes available on contract right afterwards, I won't be a happy camper...

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

It's not a matter of opinion. VZW has the best coverage. Hating Verizon doesn't change that fact.

I live in Miami, the heart of the 8th largest metropolitan area in the country. I live less than a mile from UM and vz coverage here sucks.

There is no way to prove your "fact" because it is not a fact. It is a marketing campaign.

This hits the nail on the head. I get reimbursed my cell phone bill. I don't get reimbursed for purchasing the phone. I am willing to shell out whatever on a 2 year contract but not $700 bucks. I am up 12-23-14. So, I have my time than some of you. I just wanted to know what i need to be shopping for. I am so not happy with Verizon's marketing and customer service on this issue.
Where I am you can sit next to 5 people with AT&T phones and none have service but Verizon does. The only time AT&T beats Verizon is you can about 6 miles in the Gulf and AT&T isn't roaming but Verizon has no signal.

If you have an upgrade due, your contract is most likely ending as well. Consider purchasing the phone anywhere and bring it to VZW. If you take a 10GB or greater plan, you will qualify for $25 off per month on your service. Over 24 months, you will save $600. Figuring the contract price will be $250, you will end up $200 to the good.

The discount is emphasized for people going into the Edge program, which requires a 2 year contract and divides the full cost of the phone into 24 monthly payments. They do not make it obvious, though, that you can get the same discount off-contract if you pay full price for the phone, or bring it to them for service after you bought it somewhere else.

I've got a pre-order in from Motorola, and had the same concern as you about paying full price and having it pop up at the VZW store. Learning about the off-contract policy took that load off my mind.

Thanks but I don't even use one GB of data a month because there is high speed wireless everywhere I go. Looked at Edge but it doesn't make sense for me even if contract price is $300...

It depends on where you live. In L.A., ATT is bad and Verizon is the best. There are lots of exceptions, though, and certain locations favor one carrier even if overall that carrier has poor coverage. We should go with the carrier that has the best coverage where we use our phones.

We're moving from ATT to Verizon tomorrow and I can't wait to finally get better service. But I'll have to deal with VZ's crappy bloat and no root (Note 4) so it's a mixed bag.

My plan is to use my Verizon upgrade for an iPhone 6 or 6+, sell it, and use the cash to buy the Nexus 6 outright. I'm not waiting on Verizon!
