Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Re: Will XLTE work on the Nexus 6?

I have a nano sim activated with an adapter in my note 2 right now. My nexus 6 is out for delivery. Ready to get home.

Get a real carrier.

Define real carrier! They have the best Cell service in my area. Their customer service stinks and so does the price. But I can make and receive calls

Re: Activating Nexus 6 on Verizon w/ new sim cards

I used the same fake number. After the first phone programmed the correct IMEI OTA the fake IMEI was available for the second phone. I shouldn't say bogus or fake. It was the IMEI off a display moto x in a Verzion store.

The tech support was all over the phone. To make it work tech rep put the "temporary" IMEI onto my line and the new sim card number. That was enough to make the phone activate OTA then it auto-programmed the phones actual IMEI onto my account. That released the temporary to repeat with my second phone line.

When the phones power up with the new sim card there is no special notifications alerting you to the programming updates. It almost instantly connected to the LTE network. After a couple minutes the my phone number showed up in "about phone/status." Once that happened I tried to place a call but got a verizon recording saying I need to restart the phone. Once that was done, everything worked, LTE/3G Data/Voice/SMS.

If you need a new sim card to go from your old phone to the Nexus 6 you may have a different experience then me. I don't think verizon is in the habit of just handing out sim cards and letting you walk out. But I think I was annoying the reps in the store and they wanted me gone. Hey I can't help it if I know more about this stuff than the people Verizon employs. One sales lady told me that "we just sell the phones we don't need to know about them or their differences." Uh, yes you do. Rule number one in sales, know your product.

The problem with Verizon and IMEIs is there database only contains numbers that belong to phones sold through Verizon channels. A device that they don't sell but works on their networks (Nexus 6) won't have its IMEI "whitelisted" in the Verizon database. They originally told me I had to submit a request to add my Nexus 6's IMEIs to the database. But that takes a few days and since it is a request they can say no. Total BS. That is why you need a IMEI off a Verizon phone.

Hope this clears up some things and answered your questions. Sorry about the long read.

Re: Activating Nexus 6 on Verizon w/ new sim cards

Brian,

Did you initially try to activate (using the fake IMEI number) your N6 online through your Verizon account without tech support help?

During your conversation with tech support did you supply your fake IMEI and your sim card number only? Did you disclose to tech support that you were actually activating an N6 or did they assume your phone was the Moto X?

Did the second phone activate online (without tech support assistance) or did you have to go through the same process (with tech support) but with a different sim card number and the same fake IMEI?

Just trying to understand the process so when I call tech support I provide the right information.

Thanks again for your help and patience ....

Verizon and Nexus 6

I have been doing some research. No where can I ever find it confirmed by someone with Verizon that they will carry or support the Nexus 6. I have seen plenty of speculation mostly by bloggers and people in forums. Never by Verizon or a rep of Verizon. I think the biggest part of this speculation is that GPS has them listed with all other American carriers. In the beginning you could click the Verizon logo and it would take you to Verizon's home page. Now the Verizon logo is grayed out and there is no link back to Verizon. What are your thoughts on this? Honestly, I just want the phone because it is Motorola. I have had excellent luck with them over the years. My emergency phone right now is an Atrix HD with an At&t prepaid Sim because it gets better reception in the woods. Once I got my Note 2 I realized I will never own another small phone. That being said a Note 4 will meet my needs just fine. Plus if I but it now on 2 year contract I esky out the door with gift cards in my pocket. My fear is I get the Note 4 on the 23rd and exactly 15 days later Verizon has the N6.

Re: Activating Nexus 6 on Verizon w/ new sim cards

Well, thanks to Brian and others, I was successful in activating a Nexus 6 with a new sim card on Verizon. I will be creating a new thread to discuss my experience. Bottom line, yes, you can be successful, but the process is not straight forward. The process is highly dependent on how you contact Verizon and who you contact.

I did my research (spent hours on multiple forums, searches, etc.) and was discouraged by so much mis-information and just plain wrong answers, comments and suggestions. I am not sure why so many people chose to provide bogus information. It was clear to me after all of my research and actual experiences, that many people just plain did not have first hand knowledge.

I will attempt, to the best of my ability, in my future discussion to state only facts (no opinions or guesses!).

Coming soon ....

Re: Activating Nexus 6 on Verizon w/ new sim cards

Tired of chasing the Nexus 6 and dealing with how Verizon handles Nexus devices in general and went with iPhone 6 plus 128, would have liked this Android phone but was just not in the cards.

I will probably buy the Note 4. I bought 2 S5's in October and BB fudges up my GSPP. I noticed it wasn't charged to my account. Called BB and went up to a regional manager. THey could not make their insurance carrier pick up the phones acknowledging it was their mistake not to add it. That being said my 19 year old daughter will likely destroy the phone and I will hand down the Note 4 at said time and get the Nexus. I talked to google earlier, rep said that Verizon is grayed out becasue they will not support the phone bought from the play store it is there way of acknowledging it will work on their system. Verizon will only support phones if they end up carrying them that will be bought through them. Also made a comment about a 3rd PN showing up in the system but it had no specifics.....Things that make you go HMMMM.....
If this was an Iphone you can guarantee Verizon wouldn't be pulling this.

My theory for the delay is since lollipop is a new software verizon is thoroughly testing it and it could explain why the nexus 6 is so delayed. Also this might also explain why their own droid turbo doesn't have lollipop. I'd expect the nexus 6 to be released around the same time the turbo gets lollipop

Yeah... I mean, feature wise, the note 4 has it all. I LOVE the multi window and s pen. Camera is amazing. But... Is going to outweigh touchwiz? Does having a nexus and pure android and the most current android worth it? I want to say yes, and in my head I know yes, but having this phone so difficult to get is having me doubt. I don't understand why Motorola or Google just can't put me on a wait list. And then will I be regretting it if I'm out somewhere and I need to look up a number or directions while I'm on the phone? Voice and data, can't do that yet... If ever?

I know I can use hangouts dialer, maybe that's the hopefully only temporary solution.

Except the moto x got lollipop about a month ago. If I were to goes it might be a holdup with voLTE. Maybe they are working with Google to get it right.

Okay so I have a chance to purchase a Nexus 6 off Craigslist for a very reasonable price. I currently have a Moto X 2014 that takes a nano Sim. So if I were to buy the nexus 6 could I just switch out the Sim cards and be good to go?

If it's an att device it needs to be sim unlocked first

I always thought with Verizon it wasn't never that simple as to just switch out the Sim cards and go

With most devices it isn't as there are usually multiple SKU numbers to deal with and Verizon will have only white-listed their own. Typically most Verizon devices can be used on other networks without issues other than perhaps some missing LTE bands on the GSM networks, but going in reverse BYOD to Verizon is usually not simple and sometimes not possible. In the case of the N6, other than the AT&T version (which is still the same SKU but is somehow carrier locked? how is that possible?), they seem to all share a SKU and be interchangable across supported carriers.
