Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

I had the verizon Gnex and I got updates a day or two after google released them. It's a NEXUS! Unlock, root and start flashing roms. Sure, if you are waiting for verizon you may not get updates for ages. Last I knew verizon never got the last Gnex update. Even if you can't buy the phone from google you can pick up a used one and have at it (thus keeping the unlimited)

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

their coverage is no better than AT&T IMO. i've had both. i choose AT&T GoPhone because i prefer value, choice, openness, and freedom over closed and proprietary oppressiveness.

Ya no, AT&T coverage doesn't compare to Verizon, especially LTE coverage. I mean there are still whole States AT&T has little coverage in that Verizon has almost full LTE.

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

Yes, that was the past and is what everyone is afraid of. What we're hoping is that Google has forced Verizon to stop being evil :)

Ya, I mean remember Google refused to give another Nexus to Verizon previously, so Verizon I am assuming would have to give in to Google to get this one.

Do we know it was Google that refused? I wonder if Verizon wanted lte and after the GN fiasco Google didn't want to make a special device for Verizon. Or Verizon said no more in till they natively support lte. The N4 doesn't have lte does it?

From what I heard through the grape vine Google was not happy with Verizon insisting on their bloatware. Notice there wasn't Google versions of the S5 and others available for Verizon either.

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

One of the things I find interesting is Verizon is offering the apple thing for free if you trade in a iPhone 5. I just wonder if Google want to make the Nexus available in as many places as possible to put a dent in Apple. You know VZW isn't going to offer the nexus for free no matter what you do. I have been on VZW for 10yrs plus and I have no problem with them and I would bet my bottom dollar that Android outsells IOS by a long way. It will be a nice line up for Verizon, Moto G, Moto X, Droid Turbo and Nexus 6.

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

I think Verizon not wanting to release the proprietary binaries for CDMA. Making Google bake in backup assistant couldn't have helped either. But you would think Google would be willing to work some to get the nexus on the biggest us carrier

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and it was very much a Nexus in my mind.

I felt like it was just another Verizon phone personally. And we all know the issues with the radio and reception. I am glad that you felt it was a Nexus. I just have a different recollection of the device and my experience of it. To me the whole premise of having a Nexus is an entirely pure android device. It was not. That is why I have enjoyed the N5 so much. The N5 has the freedom I expected from and did not get from the GNex. JM2C

What carrier are you using the N5 on?

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

So then what you want is a phone that doesn't even have the Google apps. The Nexus devices aren't even "pure" Android as they contain Google's proprietary software.

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

So in YOUR definition a Nexus has to be identical on every carrier and can't be purchased from ANY carrier stores/websites? Google clearly disagrees with you on that one and if Google puts the Nexus name on it, then it is a Nexus.

Try re-reading what I wrote. I did not say it can not be purchased from ANY carrier stores/websites. I said if you have to buy it from Verizon and not the Play store. You are correct two versions of the Nexus operating on two different networks would still be Nexus'....Verizon had their own model of the GNex with Verizon apps on board, and a steeper purchase price. Verizon also controlled when the updates were released for their version of the GNex.

What Google wanted the VZW version of the GNex to be and what it really became is probably not how Google expected it to go.

While true, the phone is not locked down with those apps. I can chose to disable them if I want. I can customize it any way I want. It is a truly free from bloat phone. With no Touchwiz or other overlays to bog it down...
