Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

I would like to get updates quickly and hopefully be able to root easily since some apps I use are root. I fear this will not be possible with the Verizon version.

Why wouldn't it? The Verizon Galaxy Nexus was totally easy to root.

Re: Nexus 6 on VERIZON

I hope you're right and that it is. The only reason I mention is because it is indeed on Verizon, and things on there have been hard to get rooted lately, taking more time, especially when first released. Those were not Nexus devices, though. I have never owned a Nexus device, but I really want to. I always liked how they got updates as soon as they were released.

Re: Special carrier versions?

I would really like to buy it on contract since I don't plan to leave AT&T any time soon...so saving $$ on the big price tag would be nice.

However, if it's anything short of the pure Google Nexus experience, I will probably just fork over my money and get it straight from Google.

It's hard to believe that it will happen...Google is definitely big enough to do it...I just don't know if they have enough leverage, like Apple does, to dictate terms to the likes of AT&T.

I am in the same boat. Anxiously waiting to find this out.

Re: Special carrier versions?

So wait, is there only going to be a single model of this phone? Like no special Verizon model with different frequencies? If so that would be frocking awesome

Look at the release. Two models. One American one international. American model has Verizon radios sprint radios att and t-mobile in one device.

Nexus 6: Verizon

Maybe we can stick all the vzw specific questions in here?

I assume like the new Moto X and Turbo the N6 won't be able to do simultaneous voice and data? At least without advanced calling. Do we know for sure?

And has Verizon actually confirmed anything or are they still acting like the phone doesn't exist?

My G2 on Verizon can do voice+data. Is there a reason the Moto phones can't?

The problem I have buying through ATT is that they may say it will receive the timely software updates, etc. But, actually putting that into practice is something altogether different. I don't trust them.

The updates will come from Google and not AT&T. No carrier specific model. Just America's model and global model. No carrier can block updates.

Something with the new phones only having 1 radio or antenna. I forget the specifics. Once voLTE is up they will be able to do data and voice again. I'm not sure if this is a Verizon decision or moto. I haven't payed enough attention to the note 4

This is pure speculation at this point.

If they've effectively pulled an "Apple" with regard to updates, kudos to them.

History suggests, however, that Android phones will be treated differently whereby carriers need to "approve" the updates before allowing them to be pushed.

Agreed. Best to be cautious. Google hasn't said a damn thing and that's suspicious. If they really guarantee direct updates on all carriers its a pretty big deal and they would've announced it.

If you want to talk about history. The GSM Galaxy Nexus received it's 4.2 update on mid Nov 2012. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus didn't get it until late March 2013.

I'm pretty sure Google learned from this and won't allow Verizon to do that again.

Re: Nexus 6: Verizon

The Moto X 2014 have dual LTE MIMO antennae so it can do data and voice at the same time. I'm pretty sure this will be the same for the Nexus 6, which seems to be the phone that support more carriers in one than any other phone ever.

Not at all saying that they would. Just that I'd be cautious.
