And here's why I think this...

Currently, AT&T sells the 2nd generation Moto X (the non Pure Edition phone) for $99 on contract. But, on their store web page it markets itself very interestingly/devilishly:

13MP camera with 4K capture
Pure Android™ experience
Moto voice control

Did you catch that? Yes, folks, this is what they are going to do with the Nexus 6 as well. If they can just throw around the label "Pure Android Experience", that means they think we are stupid and they will go ahead and put the pre-loaded (non-deletable) bloatware, locked bootloader, carrier start up splash screen, etc.

They will most likely have a Nexus 6 Pure Edition that sells only on the Google Play store for $624529789498249824

no they won't. They didn't with the nexus 5, and when verizon sold the galaxy nexus it had i believe 2-3 preloaded verizon apps. Boot loader was still as simple and easy to unlock as the GSM version was. All these "the sky is falling" theories are crazy. I mean verizon sucks with updates, yet the moto got updates before other carriers on verizon and the ht. m8 just got updated right away. Verizon is no longer as awful as people make them out to be. A nexus is still going to be able to unlock the boot loader, flash whatever you want. And even if it does have a few apps, is it really that much of a big deal? Maybe I just don't let little things like these get to me. I mean there is a nexus ON VERIZON and its not a special variant like the galaxy nexus was....

anybody know how the Verizon nexus 6 will handle simultaneous voice and data . the 2014 moto x has to have update to volte to be able to do it . since its one model for all of north America I wonder how it will work.

That's a great question.

Based on what we know so far my bet is the Verizon Nexus 6 will have to have Verizon's Advanced Calling 1.0 activated to be able to have simultaneous voice and data.

Based on what I've read the early feedback on Verizon's Advanced Calling is very poor. Dropped calls, diminished battery life and poor call quality have all been mentioned.

My Galaxy Nexus has that open source messaging app. The Hangouts app is horrendous.

I doubt any carrier bloatware when bought from AT&T or Verizon. If any, it'll probably just be the account apps.

I spoke to a google representative. he was very explicit when it came to AT&T subsidized nexus that it is going to come with bloatware and update restrictions. It wont be the same as the one sold in Google play store and this nexus is also going to be two versions of LTE one global and Americas.

I guess its one huge chunk of pie vs smaller pieces of pies adding up. I argued the same with motorola people when I bought the motox 2014 out of contract att version phone but still was locked to ATT with all the branding and bloatware saying that you guys will never get it right even though you get the hardware right.

Talk to one of the at&t puppets today while I was returning my recently purchased moto x and he said " you didn't hear this from me but the nexus 6 comes factory unlocked ". All I can take from this is he doesn't know his head from his ***. I think what he meant to say was, its the same phone you get when you buy it from the play store and at&t doesn't touch it.

The AT&T rep also told me that the contract free moto x 2nd gen phone that i bought from motorola store was free of att bloatware and branding free. but turned out to be false. so I guess we need to turn to our luck and see what is going to turn out to be what. so my sincere suggestion would not to trust AT&T.

Selling iPhones is life and death for Apple. Their entire business depends on it. They make 1 phone/year and spend a lot of time, money and effort to make sure as many people as possible can get it easily and have a great experience using it.

Google doesn't really care about Android phone sales, updates, oem skins or any of the crap we users worry about. Their money comes from -

1) licensing Google Play Services
2) making sure as many devices as possible use their web services (due to 1) and generate ad revenue

Google makes the exact same amount of money whether you visit gmail/google from a bloatware ridden laggy Verizon phone running a 2 year old OS vs a pure Nexus with the latest release.

Also its their goal to expand Android into as many areas as possible. Apple's goal is to keep the exclusive image of their products, seen as a status symbol. This they can charge really high prices for them. Android is by far the #1 mobile OS because anyone can license it for any device, that strategy is not going to change.

Google is never going to withhold Android from an em/carrier the way Apple can. Google doesn't own Android and can't even threaten a carrier they won't get Android phones. If Apple says a carrier doesn't get the new iPhone, that's billions in lost revenue and carriers will bend over backwards and sign any agreement.

Google is responsible for the core framework of AOSP, its in the mission and guidelines for AOSP.

Contribution from other sources is also included especially the OHA.

There's a difference between a core framework (SOA for example and the ESB/Apache projects) and the UI/applications that run "on top" of the framework.

Android would be akin to Gnu/Linux
Google Nexus akin to RedHat or Ubuntu
TouchWiz (Sammy) is more like a NetApp who takes a core (BSD) and heavily mods the framework.

Its an odd paradigm that doesn't translate well, but if Linus Torvalds starting releasing his own spin of Linux, well that would be about the closest comparison to what Googles relationship to AOSP is. If this ever happened you can see how folks would consider the Torvalds spin as "pure Linux" and that's kind of why Google Nexus and AOSP are blurred. Who'd know the kernel and core API better than the authors/owners.

Either way, it doesn't matter, just enough with the wrongs and rights, this isn't high school.

What are you talking about? AT&T did not and does not sell the Nexus 5.

Thread title made it seem definitive and proved, but this is pure speculation. Not that I was going to purchase this on-contract in the first place, but basically there isn't any evidence that the carrier sold phones will be bloated up.

I agree. I'm buying mine from the play store so it won't matter, but I've yet to see a Nexus phone with bloatware. The closest was the Galaxy Nexus and that wasn't that bad.
