Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

- battery life not as good (worse than Note 4, iPhone 6+)
- screen not as good (worse than Note 4, iPhone 6+)
- screen color calibration is bad (worse than Nexus 5)
- flash read/write speeds are slow (worse than Nexus 5)
- doesn't have full set of features from Moto Assist, lacks hw sensors
- no sd card, no removable battery

Google seems to think putting the Nexus name and promise of quick updates is enough and they can put substandard hardware. I can't believe some of the components are worse than the N5, which was $300 cheaper.

This works for a $350-400 phone, it doesn't when you claim to be a no-compromises premium phone with premium pricing.

Ask yourself, if this weren't a 6" phone and didn't have the Nexus brand, would you still be interested?

If it wasn't 6" I would be more interested. Not sure how having less battery life than the note and 6+ is such a bad thing, both of those devices have great battery life, and from reviews the nexus isn't that bad. Some of the other things may be ironed out in future updates. For me the size put me off and I will be holding out seeing if a refreshed nexus 5 on all carriers makes its way out after CES or sometime next year.

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

I agree with the OP. It appears the phone has a meh battery life that does not do it for me

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

Battery life seems from the early reviews of what seems to not be a finished version of Lollipop vs the Note 4 seem about the same.. All day use I sleep a good 5 - 6 hours a day so it can charge and be ready to go after that.

If you framed the Note 4 screen and the Nexus 6 screen set at the same brightness and played the exact same video and had 100 random people tell you which one looked better you'd get a 50/50 answer. Technically yes the Note 4 has a better screen.. reality most people wouldn't be able to tell a difference between the two

Flash memory read/write speed is very disappointing.. Look forward to comparing that myself with my Nexus 5 after I have the Nexus 6

Most of the Moto assist features are gimmicky at best and won't be used much after the first initial weeks with the device.. read a few reviews that said Google took a lot of what Moto did with voice search while the screen was off and the ambient/active display and made it better... Hard to say if this is a real big deal or not

I ordered a 64 GB version so memory shouldn't be a problem.. 32 should be plenty for the average user and 64 should be way more than enough for the average user. Power users who have a TON of memory hogging games and apps is a different story. I got 64 because I could and it was only $50 more but I could have easily lived with 32 in my world use... Same with Removable battery. Only true benefit for me would be over time when the battery starts to lose it's true luster and a new refreshed battery would be nice... I did the multiple battery swap out thing with my GS3 and over time it's just a pain to keep up with an extra battery and make sure they are all charged... As long as it makes a full day with relative ease I am okay with no swappable battery... I've survied just fine with a Nexus 5 with worse battery life and history....

The only thing that seems worse hardware wise is the memory. Everything is else is top of the line state of the art for November... By January? Such is technology...

Yes if this were just the Moto S and not a Nexus 6 I would be totally interested with it's current feature set.. Only reason I didn't jump on the Moto X 2014 was the lack of wireless charging.. I have 3 wireless chargers that cost me over $140 total and I just love it that I waited to see what the Nexus 6 offered as I passed on the Note 4 because it was $800 out of contract and I am not a fan of Touchwiz...

Re: Ars Technica: Nexus 6 Review - The “premium” price still comes with compromises

Which one is in the turbo? The same as the nexus 6?

Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk

Not sure what sensor the Turbo has, but I don't think it's the same as the Nexus 6.

The Turbo has a 20.7 megapixel camera and I *think* it's the same one as the Xperia Z3.

You're correct, which just goes to show how important the software is. Same sensor, yet the z3 blows the turbo out of the water in terms of picture quality. Maybe one day moto and google can figure out camera software

The question is are YOU going to get it or are you just going to keep complaining?

Some people just want to split hairs..... I get 28 hours of battery life and you only get 24.... I have 510 ppi and you only have 480... I can expand to enough memory to download and store the entire MGM Movie catalog while you only have enough on board storage for about 30 of those movies.. I can magically turn my screen on by just waving my hand over it... You have to actually pick it up to get notifications....

WHERE DOES IT END??????? :D

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

The comparison between a Note 4 and a Nexus 6 is like comparing a Lambo to a Ferrari... One has a top speed of 210 MPH the other one "ONLY" does 190... One does 0 - 60 is 3.6 seconds and gets 15 miles per gallon while the other does 0 - 60 in 3.2 seconds and gets 17 miles per gallon... while one has a single tank range of 245 miles and the other will go 268 miles on the same amount of fuel...

Both are awesome and overkill for what we really need and just a pure gluttony of riches to own.... Yet we want to fight over which is better than the other....

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

I was going to get the phone 100% before, now after reading details and the availability delays its more like 70%. I'm going to wait, which I have to do anyway for Verizon to announce the phone, and see if any software updates fix issues.

The biggest concern is the slow flash speeds and the panel which is not as good as Note 4. I predicted as much earlier, its an older gen AMOLED, which causes battery drain, isn't very bright, and has poor colors, as Anandtech said in their review.

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

Anandtech also said that there was an issue with the NAND testing, so maybe the slow memory is not the issue it seems to be.

Some people, myself included, appreciate these candid reviews. Your comment is rude and adds zero value to this discussion.

Don't u already use the phone? I think we can't say anything until we get the phone in hand...All the reviewer get different unit..some good some bad..even the iPhone 6+ has battery problem too..if u go to note 4 forum u will see a lot of user complain about battery life too..and everything u said seem to be fix by software update..

I watch the review just for fun and get to know the phone better...

Are you saying complaining about the phone is a bad thing? This forum is to discuss the phone, good or bad.

Re: Ars Technica: Nexus 6 Review - The “premium” price still comes with compromises

That was a very thorough review. I still think if you're thinking about buying the Nexus 6 you should try it out for yourself. The slower sequential read speed - as they suggested - compared to the Nexus 5 was surprising. You wouldn't think they would put inferior flash storage in the Nexus 6, so I'm wondering if it's a software issue, although they don't seem to think so. it still won't deter me from getting the device.
The slow memory speeds seems to be more a lollipop issue:

Re: Anybody else disappointed with screen battery life and camera ?

Made my decision I will get a note 4 when Amazon decides to stock it

I always take reviews, especially these with a dose of grains of salt. The reason is they have been using a version of Lollipop that was not the release version. Also, what I see in pictures and screens and other things they see differently. We are human and that is what makes us individuals. We all see things in our own way. I am excited and can't wait to get my hands on this. I know there is no device out there that is perfect. But only what is perfect for me.

his remark was a bit snarky, but he's probably just a bit annoyed because all of your posts within this forum are complaints. it just seems as if you are making strong efforts in finding things to bash the phone about.
