As I said before no amount of updates will EVER fix the nexus 6 camera.... Yes software is a factor but I will Alnost guarantee it won't be any difference with the nexus 6. I also am not going to download a 3rd party camera app because I'm not going to trust it ever and B if I need to I'm not going to buy a phone that requires me to

Motorola put out firmware/software updates for the 2013 Moto X that improved the camera a bit last year and Google's camera app was removed from the Android software in KitKat and made it's own individual app so it can be updated individually via software... But you are right it's possible nothing Google does will make the camera better....

You have the Note 4 and you are happy with it.... based on all the post you've made you have your mind made up... You've justified your choice in hardware.. You shouldn't even need to be in the Nexus 6 forum pointing out all the reasons you are not going to get one.. I am not in the Note 4 forums pointing out and starting threads on why I am getting a Nexus 6 and dumping my Note 4 or justifying said choice of going with a Nexus 6 over a Note 4... Matter of fact I've never even looked in or posted in a Note 4 forum...... Always limited my post to a phone I am interested in or already have.. If it's one I am interested in and that interest goes away for whatever reason I just no longer go to or post in that forum....

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

Again zero evidence to back any of it up.... Gizmodo loved it and gave it glowing reviews on almost everything.... ARS Tech of course wast he complete opposite... You don't have one and you are 110% certain someone elses opinion in a early review after two weeks of use with what is probably buggy early build software is the nail in the coffin for you...

Which is fine.... It's not your cup of tea.... It'll probably be top 5 Android smart phone for 2014.... Maybe top 3... Depends on who's ranking you go by.... Some will have it top 3 and some will have it further down.....

I don't know yet... I've been happy with my Nexus 5 and I'll test out the Nexus 6 and make a decision on my own... I wanted a bigger screen phone.... Still intrigued about the Note 4.... Samsung has put out great phones.... I had a GS3 before the Nexus 5.... The consensus of reviews I've read is that it's a pretty darn good phone....

If the panel magically changes, the battery issues get fixed via software update, the camera app gets fixed and isn't slow and clunky, and they add anything at all that takes advantage of that screen size, I'll come back and concede this to you. Don't see that happening.

And I read reviews that take the bias out of it and just test it. Anandtech does that. Most other reviewers are going to take preference into account, especially on a phone this big.

I am extremely curious then.... Why do you want a Nexus???? The purpose of this phone is to take this phone as stock as it is, and make it what you want it to be. In doing so you add apps and widgets and other things. If you wanted all of that stuff already on your phone, then you would have bought a Note 4 or something else and not even bothered looking at the Nexus.

It's not like that but whatever.... Nexus is nowhere like a custom built Pc.... If anything it's a dry empty wasteland barren of any features but bare bone to allow it to work. While I like stock Android I find it bland and very boring.

Note 4 has a great camera and camera is important because I already am carrying keys, a wallet, pair of earphones, gum usually and change so I don't want to add a point and shoot in my pocket so I require a good camera phone.

The custom computer analogy doesn't quite fit only because you can't custom build a Nexus phone yourself . A custom pc you can add the best hardware possible, so I get what you're saying. It's clear to me that you prefer the Note 4, and that's cool. The point I was trying to make was, when you build a pc yourself, it is in fact a bare, barron device, lacking any features. You have to add your own software, if you want to do anything extra.

I don't know your level of expertise in this area, but when I mean a custom built pc, I mean with nothing other than windows installed and nothing else. When I ran my computer repair and networking business on the side, at lot of my customers didn't understand this. They thought when you built a Pc, it automatically came with Microsoft office, and didn't realize that adding office would add to the cost of the Pc. Companies like Dell and HP used to add a lot of extras that people don't use, that slow the computer eating up memory. i think that totally relatable when talking about phone manufactures IMO.

The Nexus is similar to this, in that it's stock Android, nothing extra. I don't mind this experience because it works for me, but I know it doesn't work for everyone. I'm not trying to get into a Nexus vs. Note argument. Like I mentioned, it's clear you like the Note 4 better than the nexus (from you statement in bold), and I don't blame you, it seems like great phone with a nice camera. I just don't value the camera as much as you and other people.

Anyway, we all like Android. Heck, I'll probably get a Note 4 next year because I'm a gadget and phone junkie.

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

Some of what are in the reviews is just opinion anyway.

Only some? :) outside of benchmarks individual user experience is going to vary widely and a review for the most part is entirely opinion based.... As you said nothing is a show stopper for me either... Looks like the hardware is top notch and the software may be a little buggy out the gate and will need improvements and tweaks as we go forward.... As least we are not seeing review after review after review complain about speaker holes not big enough or glass not fully lined up perfectly or light leakage or awkward positioning of this or that....

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

Battery and camera are good, so I don't know what issues you're talking about.

Battery lags behind the Note 4 with the same size battery. Noticebaly so. Camera is still slow, still clunky just like the 5. Not everyone is cool having it take a few seconds to take an HDR shot and then waiting a few seconds for it to process. Can these things be fixed? Of course. Were they last year when the same issues were present during launch? Nope. We'll just have to see.

As I said before I like it.... And due to the fact Verizon takes forever to update their phones. While I think it's a barren wasteland it's better the alot of the bloat ware which while I use some I can live without. Camera and screen brightness is a big factor for me and along with battery life got me decide to keep the note 4..... For now

Battery looks ok. Camera looks a little less than ok. The overwhelming compliment it's getting in most reviews is "better than previous Nexuses," but still worse than Samsung, Apple, etc. That's disappointing to me.

So things on the Note 4 forum must be pretty boring. This device has not even released yet and you are positive of all the things you are saying and stating? Why don't we wait until we get it in our hands and let the people decide if it is as subpar as you want it to be. Maybe then you can come back and tell us how you told us so.... It is obvious you have or had no intention of getting the N6, so why are you on this board bashing it? Makes not sense to me as I would never go on the Note 4 forum and trash how laggy touchwiz is...because I am not interested in that phone and have no reason to go there...

I think it's bland bold and barren but it's cons outweighs the cons of touchwiz which I do like but some of the bloat ware I rather install myself. I'm say natural on the debate between touchwiz and stock and could go either way. My preference of the note 4 was hardware with battery life, screen quality and brightness and camera and it fails on each so far. I will probably order one around new years and sell the one I don't like.

As far as building custom pcs go I can do it but I prefer laptops so I just buy from hp or etc. I don't spend alot of time using my laptop so it's fine for what it does and plays some games.

Re: Anybody else disappointed with screen battery life and camera ?

I've heard that the battery and camera are good, ONE reviewer said it wasn't while many others said easily a full day and the best camera on the Nexus line.
One reviewer? Yes it's the best on the nexus line but best period? Plenty wasn't in love with it compared to other phones and places where the verge gave a glowing review of it said camera was average and along with phone arena. Benchmarks say the note 4 last longer then 8 while the nexus 6 lasts around 7 and a half of usage I believe.

Frame a Note 4 panel and a Nexus 6 Panel to where you can't tell one is Samsung and one is Motorola.. set to the same brightness and play the exact same video at the exact same point side by side and ask 100 random people to tell you which one is better than the other and it will almost always be a 50/50 split.. The Note 4 technically has a better panel... Super AMOLED vs AMOLED and a more dense pixel density because of the smaller screen.... You are not talking about a super AMOLED 2K Panel vs a 720p LCD IPS panel......

I've read a ton of reviews that the Nexus 6 last a little over a full day with moderate to slightly heavy use but probably won't make it far in to the second day... I don't know about you but I sleep a good 5 - 6 hours on average every night... My phone is at 100% every morning when I leave for the day..... Plus a turbo charger puts 6 hours of use in 15 minutes....

I know people with Note 3's and one with a Note 4 who don't even take advantage of all the touchwiz software made specifically for the larger screen.. My personal need and want is just a Big @$$ phone.... I don't need nor will I use an S pen or split screen...

No review completely removes bias.... Benchmarks you can't ignore as they show you the raw power and speed behind the device (or lack there of) but at the end of the day an individuals real world everyday use might not even use 20% of a devices full potential... Kind of like owning a 700 HP Ferrari to drive to work.... You are very rarely going to be able to take full advantage of the cars true power.... because your daily use just doesn't require it......

What does this have to do with the Note 4? I really haven't brought it up other than to say it has the same battery size, but significantly better battery life. I would have picked up a Nexus 6, but they made the same mistakes as they did before, but this time it's not $350.

To each their own, but I find it amusing how much denial there is with this device purely because it says Nexus on the back. That doesn't hold nearly as much weight as it used to.

Since you brought it up, though, if I was grading the Nexus 6 on the Note 4 scale, it wouldn't come close.

Yet another comment about the Note 4. It sounds to me like there's some people who really want to justify their purchase after these reviews came out and they realize it's not as good as they thought it was. This really has nothing to do with the Note 4, yet it keeps getting brought into this. Wonder why.

Not in denial at all. And how can you make a comparison on the Nexus 6 VS the Note 4? The N6 has not even been released yet... You have never held it in your hands and neither have I. All we have are some reviews by different people with different views. I find it disingenuous of you to automatically assume all of this when the phone has not even been made public and the final version of the software is not out yet.... You never know, it may just surprise you...

Re: It's a typical Nexus phone, full of compromises

One example of why I take reviews with a grain of salt is the Phonearena battery tests. They had the HTC One M8 rated higher than the Iphone 6 Plus and LG G3 which from my experience is totally wrong. I was trying to be nice about it before, but the M8 battery doesn't come close to the Iphone 6 plus, the way I use the phones.

Honesty, from what I've been reading, it's the people who have the Note 4 ( or really want it) who are bringing it up more, even starting threads about it. The people like me who still like the nexus 6, are just countering with our opinions. I can't say it's not as good as I thought it was because I don't have the phone for myself.

Re: Anybody else disappointed with screen battery life and camera ?

I think out of all the reviews, the only thing I'm truly concerned about are the low read/write speeds on the flash storage (look at Ars Technica review) which evidently slows down some performance. I'd like to see others test this out to make sure it's not an anomaly.

Screen sounds like it's not the best out there but over all decent. Camera and battery seems like "your mileage may very" type of deal, as they always tend to be on phones.

This explains the slower read/write speeds.

Re: Anybody else disappointed with screen battery life and camera ?

Yep. It is the encryption. They have found the fix for it on XDA as they have done the fix for the Nexus 9 and are saying how much faster it runs. Again, just people who want to find something wrong with it and not waiting to see if there is a reason behind it and a fix for it.
