Re: All signs point to the Nexus 6 not being ready for primetime

I am holding out for November 12 and see what happens.... I hope for the sake of the few that were able to "Preorder" their devices ship and are delivered before or around November 12.... If for whatever reason I can walk into a T-Mobile store and walk out with an unlocked Nexus 6 on November 12 and the few that did order from the play store have to seriously wait until November 21.... Maybe it was a good thing I didn't get through..... and then we get a whole new thread of people upset they ordered on October 29 and they are still waiting....

Just have to wait and see what happens.... But I am over the Play store fiasco....

Same here. I'm not waiting for the playstore anymore when T-mobile has a definitive date of the 12th. The store manager will even order the 64gb for me....which is awesome.

Re: All signs point to the Nexus 6 not being ready for primetime

Hah, didn't mean to cause a big fuss or anything. Just getting a little irritated with all the complaining. I hang around here to see if anyone finds any info about the release, when orders will go up again, etc., and it just gets annoying to me seeing people just complain about something that shouldn't be as big a deal as people make it to be.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

I think it's fair to say that this whole thing has been very odd to say the least. One thing that clouded my judgement was that I regarded what happened as a "launch" and not just a "pre-order" which is a heck of a lot more fuzzy. Nonetheless it was still weird to go from "coming soon" to "out of inventory" in a such a short time. Some people claim it was a matter of seconds. Weirder still was how some pre-orders were getting into carts and then evaporating before the order was finalized. But it doesn't just stop there. The silence and lack of explanation was a bit odd too, though Google/Motorola/Lenovo (or whoever it is) isn't obligated to explain a thing.

But for me, by far the strangest aspect of this whole episode was the near universal silence from industry watchers and reporting sites like AC. I don't have a dog in this fight, nor did I try to pre-order, and I don't think I'm complaining or whining but rather just making a casual observation from the sideline. I know nobody knew anything so there was nothing anybody could say but it's still odd that there was relatively little response and observation from the likes of AC and others. In some ways there's no Android news bigger than Nexus news and the Nexus 6 is probably the biggest Android story of the year, yet even Phil's Sunday editorial piece didn't reference what happened earlier in the week.

It wasn't that long ago that Google Music limited removing / de-authorizing to only 4 devices a year. When that happened there was a wide range of thoughts expressed and kind of a mini uproar by AC and other reporting sites. I think the Nexus 6 is a heck of a lot bigger news than something like how many Google Music deauths you have yet the response and commenting on it was much smaller. In the weekly podcast there was mention of an embargo in place, which undoubtedly is a gag order to prevent write-ups on the early review units. Yet I am wondering if the embargo extended to prevent any comment whatsoever on all things Nexus 6. Personally, I think when the launch happens later this month it will be smooth, units will be available, customers won't have to wait that long, and all of this will quickly fade into a distant memory.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

I agree with you in a huge way that there is one way that I think would have made customers happier and Google's process look better. On October 15th say, "On November 12th the Nexus is coming. Then don't say a word about anything to anyone until November 12th. Don't run a pre-order, put it on shelves and in the Play Store and everywhere and everywhere within 2 hours after you announce it. That or don't even do the October teaser. Just keep everything silent until you're ready to rock with everything. That'd have worked too.

In Google speak that is called a back-order

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

I'm holding out for the 12th also, but still check the Play store every once in a while. I may just go in Tmobile and try to get one myself if they're available.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

It is what it is.... The pre order was a fail.....but does it really matter. I bet it is available on day 1 from all the carriers.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

My best case scenario for getting one (well, 2 for the family, actually) is that Amazon will sell the T-Mo edition, and I'll get my 5% back from my CC.

Edit: And that it will happen on the 12th, and I'll get it a week plus before the 4 people who managed to pre-order from the play store.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

I wonder if there will be carrier logos on the phones sold in the stores.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

Anyone surprised by the total cluster f that is a phone launch when google launches a phone hasn't been following very long, it has been this way this way since the nexus 4. The only saving grace is carriers carrying it. Most likely will be much easier to walk in store and get one come launch day, whenever that ends up being

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

My greatest hope are that it becomes clear no later than the first date upon which the phone can actually be received (which appears to be the 12th, from at least T-Mobile) as to each carrier's stance on whether or not they will allow devices purchased from other providers to be used with their SIMs, and which carriers, if any, are locking their devices or installing bloatware that cannot easily be removed without rooting and might interfere with direct delivery of updates from Google.

Without that information, I can't see myself rolling the dice with any carrier's device, even if it means a potentially lengthy delay to get one directly from Google to be assured of those freedoms.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

Regarding your Nexus 5 and issues with GPS: Mine, which I ordered immediately on first availability from the Play store (wasn't so lucky this time around) had only decent performance with GPS, performance which degraded substantially to near unusability by late Summer. I contacted Google and they indicated that that was a known issue on some of the first batch of devices. They checked my IMEI and found it to fall within the range of affected devices, and sent me a replacement next-day-air. The replacement works flawlessly.

This may be a moot point for you, since you've got other issues (though Lollipop should help alleviate battery and camera issues to a degree) and are looking for a replacement anyway, but in case others out there are basing their decision whether to upgrade or not on that possible issue, I thought I'd point it out.

Good info. Thanks.

Just curious, how's your reception? Does your new Nexus 5 hold signal well? Mine can't hold a signal for its life (in exact same areas that my previous HTC One M7 and iPhone 5 had no problems sustaining signal).

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

After seeing a whole bunch of unboxing videos, I've decided I can't handle the size of the Nexus 6. Ergonomic or not. =[

In terms of GPS, it's excellent. The replacement has yet to lose (or fail to acquire) GPS signal in any area where it shouldn't, and actually is able to denote location in some places where I wouldn't have expected it to (such as in my home office).

And I hadn't really thought about it before, but in terms of cellular data connectivity, my original phone frequently would stop passing date (despite showing strong LTE connection), requiring me to disable/re-enable wireless (thanks, airplane mode button) to restore it. I haven't had to do that once since getting the replacement.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

The N6 is on the sprint main page, it's the 3rd option down I think. I was paying my bill and saw it. Just for the hell of it I signed up for updates about the phone. If I can get it from Sprint before the play store I'm down.

Yeah the page has been up for a couple weeks now, I signed up as well but haven't heard anything back out of it yet. Even sent something to Sprint on Twitter seeing if there's any new information they might have and was just told to check sprint.com/newsroom for any future updates. Hopefully orders start on the 12th as well, if not sooner!
