Criticism of Nexus 6 is also coming from former Nexus owners, like me, who were hoping finally for a Nexus with no compromises and yet once again we have a phone about which the best that can be said is its better than previous Nexus phones, yet costs much much more.

No one is trying to convince others not to buy this. There's no conspiracy theory. And at the same time lets not try to overlook the flaws.

You are still just assuming and anyone with a current Nexus device is doing the same thing... You don't know... Heck you can't know... It's not out there in force in the wild.. You have not tested one and ran around with it for a few weeks.. None of us have... I don't know.. won't know how it works for me until I have one.. or at the very least had some time to play with one...

out of the nearly 12 reviews I've read and watched video's on today are all over the spectrum but the overall average seems to be it's a very good device and it's even a very good device for the money compared to other flagship phones on the market and spec for spec....

What I find ironic is people willing to excuse any flaw as long as its a Nexus.

Time will tell whether or not this phone is a sweet package or one riddled with defects. I don't think any Nexus owner who forks over $700 dollars will be very forgiving of any flaws except for the most ardent fan. These forums will light up with people screaming bloody scam if the device turns out to be a piece of crap. The other thing to consider is that fans aren't going to determine the fate of this device. It's going to sink or swim depending on how it sells in carrier stores.

Why are people already making excuses for the flaws in the phone? Reviews done by professionals are meant to help us make a decision. Saying things like 'lets wait till we get it in our hands' isn't productive, in that case why bother with reviews at all? Or do you only want to read the positives from reviews?

Every single review says the same thing - battery life and camera don't compare to current phones, and this is with this phones running KitKat.

Its the same every single year - Nexus with disappointing hardware, people say lets wait and it will all be fixed in software updates.

People with a Note 3/4 easily manage 2 days battery life, even my G2 gives me 1.5 days minimum. Yet a Nexus 6 with all the supposed optimizations and Volta can't manage 2 days, and the excuse made is that you can charge every night?

The camera is better than a N5, so what? Almost anything is. The shutter speeds are still slow according to most reviews, HDR mode is slow, it doesn't do slo motion video, once again the much vaunted new Camera API (about which I've posted before) hasn't made much difference.

When there were no reviews on the 29th, people said - 'lets wait for the embargo on 12th, Google made them wait so that reviewers can form a pretty good idea after using it for 2 weeks, and we can trust them'. Now that the reviews are complaining about things, the response is 'lets wait till we have it in our hands' ?? I swear, the Nexus excuses will never end.

Well the reason why I say I'd rather get it in my hands is because of personal past experience. I'm not the normal smartphone user, even compared to a lot people on this site. I've had a lot of what most would consider flagship phones. Some things that may bother some people about a phone, may not bother others ( we're all different) .

I had a Note 3 and never got 2 days of battery life out of it, not even close. The only two phones were battery life was truly really outstanding to me, are the LG G2, and the Iphone 6 plus. I don't know what LG & Apple is doing but it dominates everyone else, gotta throw the OnePlus One in there also. Every other phone I've had, I could get through the day, but had to put it on the charger at night. This includes every Samsung Galaxy Note and S series phones I've owned, as well as Nexus phones.

I watch the reviews because it's fun to watch the phone in action on the video reviews. Reviews are helpful but I don't lean on them for my total decision, especially with phones. I respect a lot of people who make reviews, because of what they've done business-wise, but they do make mistakes sometime, and a lot of it is just their opinion ( they will tell you this).

Can we please stop the "you've never used it so you don't know" crap? Seriously. I've owned the Nexus 5 (with the latest build of Lollipop before today). I own the latest Moto X. There's hardly any differences hardware and software-wise aside from the different camera and screen. I'm sure anyone who has experience with all 3 would say the same thing.

Come on man. The same can be said about every single phone. Lets move passed this nexus and how its an outrage to pay the same price for a top-tier phone. It is a top-tier phone.

As an Android and Google fan, the whole situation makes me angry. Google had a golden chance to get a Nexus into everyone's hands, I believe this was their goal, they made an expensive premium device and wanted to sell the bulk of phones on subsidized carrier contracts.

And they have screwed up royally - a total disaster of a launch, unfinished software, delays, reviews complaining about the same things, its just not good.

Why not wait till all your suppliers have stock, the software bugs are fixed, and announce the phone will be out on e.g. Dec 15, when people can go out and buy it and we don't have to wonder whether its a hw defect or sw bug, when we can buy it etc.

Like I said before, they need to take pride in their work and stop treating the Nexus as something for hardcore geeks who will buy it no matter what.

Exactly. No one wants the Nexus line to fail. It's just infuriating how sub par they've been when they could/should be so much better.

Yeah but most of the criticism from what I've been reading is about the battery life, camera, and screen. Those three things can be subjective IMO. Speaking for myself, I won't know until I can get it in my hands, that's just the way it is, at least for me.

Well you can also test those 3 things and they didn't test very well at all. They may be just fine for you, though, and that's all that matters. I'm extremely demanding when it comes to these things so it's different for me.

You know what, I have a G2 and I agree, battery life on it is amazing. There's a part of me saying I should just wait for a L port to my G2 and try it out, the camera is pretty good too and I have Qi charging.

The whole Android situation would be so much better if all phones had the option to run stock Android - that's 99% of what makes Nexus desirable.

By all objective measures we will probably see the camera rankings in this order.

1. iPhone 6+
2. Note 4
3. iPhone 6
4. LG G3
5. Nexus 6

If camera is extremely important then you may want to adjust your expectations or consider another device.

I understand the whole 'wait till I try it myself' argument, but IMO it renders reviews meaningless. And I don't think they are. All reviews are biased to some degree, but they aren't dishonest, and you can get a pretty good idea about the pros/cons from a bunch of reviews.

Nearly everyone said the Moto X wasnt impressive either and we all know how excellent and well rounded that device is.

Critics review with a bit of bias because they are so used to everything. In everyday use many devices they bash are quite awesome.

If camera is extremely important then you may want to adjust your expectations or consider another device.

In other words, the same compromise we've had to make with every Nexus so far!

Don't think I don't understand what you're saying, because I do (I'm just a Nexus fanboy). You want the best out of your device, both hardware & software. Anyway, it's getting late and I've been on this forum too long, and need a break.

Agreed, wholeheartedly.

Nothing wrong with loving Nexus. I sure did until this travesty. Luckily there's some good alternatives for the large or smaller form factors.

Also I hope Samsung gets credit for their engineering and optimizations, when Motorola and Google are clearly unable to give us a decent camera or battery life across their whole range of phones for years now. We should just accept it.

Has anyone found what the max brightness of the phone is? I usually keep my phones at around 75% and like a bright display.

Yep i will give then credit for locked bootloaders , Knox , touchwiz etc all the things that mean i will never buy samsung or lg again especially when some companies are embracing the dev communities....
