Google Photos - poor image quality when not on-line

The new Google Photos app, imo, isn't as good as the old version.

What I've noticed is a couple of things. Firstly it wouldn't pick up my photos from different folders in its main Photo page unless I backed up all the additional photos on-line (other apps find them). Secondly the image quality when opening a photo for full screen viewing is poor if not connected to the internet. (The image is held on my tablet and looks good when viewed with another app)

Has anyone else noticed this dependency on being on-line?

That is by design, it's not downloading the images at full rez, so as to allow far more space on your phone. So if you are not connected, you're seeing a thumbnail blown up.

As far as not picking up some folders, this is what I think of Google Photos, it's a massive cluster^&^* that never works right, at least not for me. http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-photos/588341-google-photos-doesn-t-work.html
