Google photos problem

Lost photos

I recently upgraded to Marshmallow from Lollipop and lost many photos. Most were left intact. Does anyone know why that happened, and how do I recover them. They are not in the trash or backup. Thanks.

Re: Lost photos

The same photos are in photos.google.com. I've looked everywhere for these missing photos. I don't know where else to look. Could it happened after the update from Lollipop to Marshmallow?

Re: Lost photos

If you set your camera to store the photos on your external SD card, they should be in your folder on there, called, DCIM. If not, check the DCIM folder on your phone's memory.

I'm either brain dead or I'm missing something. The photos are not on the SD card nor are they in any folder like DCIM. Any other suggestions?

Android automatically creates the DCIM folders on the phone and external SD card, so you will have them. The path to get to them will be something like...

On the phones memory it will be a path such as... /sdcard/ DCIM

On the external card it will be a path like... /storage/7AE8-4BE/DCIM

Use your phone's file explorer to locate them. I am not running stock Verizon, so you will need to hunt about a bit.

Re: Lost photos

The only photos in the DCIM folder are the same as the photos visible in Google Photos. The photos I'm looking for are the photos that disappeared after the upgrade to Marshmallow. I thought the missing photos could be hiding somewhere other than the TRASH. I guess they are gone forever. I don't know where else to look.

Re: Lost photos

Did you back your phone up to, say, Samsung Smart Switch, prior to updating?

I didn't use Samsung Smart Switch. I used G Cloud and the missing photos are not there.

In that case, I'm guessing that you didn't back them up fully to G Cloud if they are not there now. Did you check your backups before upgrading?

Re: Lost photos

Hmm I've never heard of G Cloud until now. Samsung Smart Switch would require access to a PC so that's straight out.

Move photos from pdf

I have a photo in a pdf. How do I move it to Google photos. Thanks.

Re: Move photos from pdf

Google Photos only stores these kinds of image files: JPEG, WEBP, GIF, CRW, CR2, NEF, DNG, ORF, RAF, ARW, PEF, SRW, RW2, BMP, ICO and TIFF.

You'd have to convert the PDF to a JPG file--do a search for "PDF to JPG," and you'll find quite a few online converters.

My Google Photos doesn't open either TIF or TIFF files. Does that have to do with Android 7.1.1 or certain settings when making the files? They are scans from old pictures...
