Compared to my Z3 Compact (a battery legend) the regular Pixel is actually better than I expected. I'm not a big gamer or video watcher, but I'm easily getting 6+ hours SoT in a day of heavy use, or 4-5 hours over two days if I'm not using the phone much -- yes, this phone can last me two days of regular-light use between charges. A night the battery drops only about 1-2% and GSAM reports well under 1% loss an hour during the day if the phone's idle.
At home I'm on WiFi all the time, and I usually get medium LTE reception in most places. I don't have any Facebook apps installed (learned that lesson years ago), and I spent a few hours ensuring everything else is optimized for battery life -- mainly ensuring app permissions are well locked down, especially those of social apps like Twitter and Instagram. I also don't use live widgets, which I've always found a huge battery drain. If I want news, I'll go online. If I want to know the weather, I'll look out the window! I do have four email accounts set up to check mail regularly, including one push. That's probably the extent of my phone's idle activity.
My screen brightness is also usually set at about 33% with adaptive brightness active (I've never like overly bright screens) and I have a mostly black wallpaper. Two things that definitely eat into battery life are navigation (not usually a problem since I'm usually in a car with charger) and the camera, but that's typical of any phone these days. Otherwise the Pixel seems remarkably power-frugal... or maybe it's just me that's power frugal. I've even skipped installing Greenify because I see no need with this phone and Android 7.
