Google Play Music is awesome but....

Google Music stores is cache to internal storage... unless something has changed, you can't say it to store to SD card.

There is a version on xDA, based on the final 4x version that you can configure a custom path, including the external SD.

I am aware you cannot store to the SD card.
Something should change though, because IMHO. Music can eat up a lot of internal storage.
After any apps you load, you're not left with much internal storage.

I signed up for the 30 day trial on both of my unlimited plan lines...I like having all my Music in one place and like the service a lot....but 417MB of data in 2.5 hours...Thats about 2 weeks worth of Pandora for me. Yeah, this is just unacceptable. I just cancelled. Its a shame.

I'll check that a lower bit rate is checked on my wife's phone and continue with the service. She doesn't use data, so it won't matter much. About 100MB a day is what I would expect to use. That would be on par with my usage on Pandora or Tuneinradio.

EDIT: I just checked... both phones default to not having highest bit-rate...My wife's phone is set to WiFi only and it still used 35MB of data!

It just makes me wonder...does anybody test anything any more? How many folks can afford to use 3GB of data for a music service in 6 days? Guess its great for everyone who is on Wifi all day. For those of us in vehicles all day...not so good.

No such thing as unlimited data. Start abusing the unlimited plan, and watch how fast your speeds get throttled.

It is for us sprint users :-) and Idk what throttling is bro.

In the UK, unlimited has virtually been wiped out. And as SMS is dying, it's going to be phone companies cash-cow in the long term. My phone doesn't have the 'stream in high quality only' ticked, and on a 40 minute drive into work I got a message that all my data for the month was gone! I had a 1GB plan, and was about 350MB into it. I thought it was a mistake..... but no! Google Play Music had spunked the lot!

So what exactly does not having the 'only play in high quality' box mean? Not very clear is it? It's enough to put me off the full service when it gets to the UK.

I haven't been throttled yet either. I'm on at&t, and I think an unspoken rule is if you never go over 5 gigs that if you do it once they won't bother you much. But if you do it again the next month, you'll get throttled.

But to us who have data caps, this service could be considered useless because of its data consumption.

Very true. The service is pretty new, so hopefully their still "tweaking" it...but they'll have to add some bandwidth/quality settings to improve data usage if they want folks to adopt it.

I've been using it since it came out... well, not All Access, because I've only been able to sign up for it yesterday (I'm in Canada), but I've been streaming my own music through Google Music's cloud service, mostly while driving in my car to and from work, and it's only used 1.47gb so far this month... Of course, it's considerable and you need to take it into acount, but really, what else are you going to do with your cellphone's internet when you're away from wifi? I have 6gb and I'm pretty condifent I'll never bust it since there is wifi everywhere... Plus, whatever playlists/albums you listen to the most, just pin them to your device. And allow for automatic caching over wifi.

I have my data warning set at a ridiculous level and it just went off at 48gb. I signed up for the free trial the day it was announced so I've been using it daily since then. I spend a lot of time in my car for work, but I think at this rate I'm going back to spotify.

That's crazy.

I wonder why I haven't had the same data usage that folks are reporting. In stream about an hour a day and my usage isn't any different than when in used Pandora. Weird.

Thank goodness I have unlimited data. I fell asleep listening to one of the radio stations, didn't need to check on my phone until mid morning. GM played 10+/- hours. I'm speechless... 21.93GB. Can't wrap my mind around that number...
