Google plus auto backup not working for the past several days.

this worked! thank you. what's weird is that the ONLY hotspot that was highlighted was my own home wi-fi network. why the hell... i don't understand this.

I'm having this problem on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5. I'm set for wifi only, connected to my home wifi, and mobile data is off. I have confirmed that wifi connection is not marked as a hot spot and have tried switching the backup rules to include mobile but still no luck! Also, battery is full and it has sat on the charger over night..

Any other ideas? I'm guessing from the other solutions this is a problem with background data on the network connection but I can't seem to find where it is saying my network is to not use background data.

Thanks

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have been strugling with this annoying problem for over a month now.
I thought it was one of my hundreds of photos or videos on the phone, that Google was unable to backup.
I have been looking into the problem on and off, but did never succeed.

Then I found your posting, You really made my day :D

I never thought of that and didn't know that the phone marks some hotspots as mobile.

My phone is a HTC One M7 btw.

Have a really nice day :-)

I think this is new behavior. I'm not sure if HTC intended for this or not but it started on the M8 after the firmware update adding Extreme Power saving mode.

This very same thing has happened to me with 14 photos left to download and it has been stuck here for days????

you're a savior. Not sure why it was like that. i certainly didn't do it. I'm guessing it's a ROM problem from the hotspot hack.

Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android 4.4.2 on Three UK

I have just one photo/video that hasn't backed up and it has been an issue for some time so probably pre-dates the 4.4.2 update and possibly even the 4.3 update before that. I'll have to look elsewhere for clues as to which item won't upload and what the solution may be.

However, I'm glad to see that most people with HTCs have found the solution and explanation here but it is a quirky one!

Thanks yall. my M7 just got this OTA like few 3 weeks ago. after making all known wifi's not hotSpots it started syncing photos & updating apps right away.

i then went to HTC Support Center-Chat ... the agent asked me to do a factory reset & i said no, go read this thread... he did the same on his and saw it start to update ... then he told me its been escalated to the helpdesk as a bug

the more folks that tell them this is an issue ... the more it will get bumped up in priority.

at least we have a work around for now. thanks again

This did not work for me.
I started an autobackup, and it backed up the first four of about 20 photos, then locked up.
It appears to be trying to upload a video that has been deleted.
It reads "12 more to go," but nothing happens. I have tried everything.
Curiously, the auto-backup for Flickr works fine.

Here's how I just solved the problem:
Sign out of google completely. Clear all caches.
Sign back in, refresh, and then the backup started, and it worked.

I'm not sure what happened recently but the Auto Backup in the Google+ Photos app has not been working for me. It just says "backing up... 9 left" and never backs up the photos. It's been working fine up until a few days ago. I have plenty of space on my google account.
I cleared out the apps data cache, didn't seem to help. Anyone else having issues recently? Any other suggestions to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

A great work around that has been flawless so far for me and even eliminated the constant need where I would have to repeat this trick every time my wifi or iphone was reset was to turn on airplane mode and then turn your wifi back on. Like some of the others on this forum I made the switch to Android (Galaxy kicks ***!) and was backing up my thousands of pics from my old iphone. So far it has been flying through the backup now!

Wow, thanks for this find! I've been battling this for months and this thread popped up after the umpteenth time I searched for answers. Unchecking these as hotspots fixed the problem immediately.

I turned back on "Backup while charging only" as well as "WiFi Only" for photos and videos.

FYI, I have a Verizon HTC One M7. It definitely started after this uber power saving mode started. Is there a way to turn that "upgrade" off?

Wow, I'm on an M7 myself and I've been scratching my head for a while there and that 'mobile hotspot' marks in the wrong places is definitely the cause! Thanks so much for rickms80 who solved this mystery!

For those of you who are still stuck with autoupload only working when 'wifi and cellular data' being checked, try this:

1. remove incorrect 'mobile hotspot' checks on your regular wifi connections
2. switch autobackup to 'wifi only'
3. turn off autobackup
4. turn wifi off
5. turn wifi back on
6. turn autobackup back on

Now everything should work!

Thank you. So much. I was at a loss when the "mobile hotspot" thing didn't apply to me.

Confirmed that this procedure is effective on Nexus 5 (4.4.4) - with about 5 minutes of patience needed after turning Auto Backup back on. ;)

My photos stopped syncing when I reset the phone (because my contacts weren't syncing). None of my wifi hotspots were checked, so that doesn't seem to be the problem for me. :-(

YOU ARE THE MOST AWESOME PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE. I have been fighting intermittent problems in apps all over the place for months. Starting with TomTom navigation, going through all of my google apps, and ending in Google Photos, I have been having the strangest problems with network, login and validation and they have ALL BEEN SOLVED BY THIS. I never even knew that that this setting existed. Everybody was stumped.
YOU RULE!
