Google, Samsung, Sprint investigate Nexus S Problems

Ya the whole less bars thus showing less signal is crap. While personally I have had no 3g/4g issues my wifi has been horrible. How can you use a phone that looses wifi signal every minute or so. It just gets stuck on obtaining IP and when it is connected its not like its only at one bar. I'll have full bars on my wifi yet drop it two seconds later midway through a page load. Sadly I used my trade in for this phone so I am stuck with it until next March. The sad thing is that is really an amazing device just these issues are inexcusable.

I also had issues with wifi being stuck obtaining an IP. It turned out to be an issue of using wireless-n with AES+TKIP on my router instead of just wireless-n with AES. Too bad there's no easy fix (yet) for the 3g/4g signal issues. My 30 days ended on June 10, so I'm hoping they come up with a fix. I switched from AT&T with an ETF for this phone....

Two people from Baltimore chimed in and have had no issues.

Anyone else here having issues (or no issues) from Balt/DC area?

i was "forced" to switch from a Palm Pre (it died after it fell on a rock and the screen broke, i was trying to save my upgrade for a Pre3 but it didn't come out in time) for a NS4G and i have had more issues than likes.

1) Battery life SUCKS! i only charge it about 4 hours (from Midnight to 0400 as the Sprint rep suggested to only charge it for 4 hours), and when i get up in the morning it has full battery, by 12am it is dead, completly drained and i a m not a heavy user. i just browse the internet here and there, stream some music on my way to work (while plugged in to a car charger), and maybe check a few E-Mails. i just can't believe the battery dies so fast!

2) the most common problem, SIGNAL! at my house my Sprint Pre would have 3 to 4 bars constantly everywhere in the house, and now the NS4G has either one bar to NONE! WiFi is the same issue, even i am 5 feet away from my router it only shows 3 bars on wifi and if i go to my room it drops it.

3) When streaming Pandora (not over Wifi and not in my car using bluetooth) if i forgot that i left the Wifi and Bluetooth on and i shut them off, Pandora stops working, very annoying!

4) i don't like i can't take pictures very fast, like multiple shots, or back to back... i mean, with my Pre i used to just hold the Space Bar and it would continuosly capture an image, and with a baby who is about to start walking that comes in very handy!

5) i HATE! HATE the speaker not being loud! i have missed calls and text from important people and when i go look, the phone has the volume all the way up and it has a ringtone that i know it would be heard from any room in my house since it is the same ringtone i had on my Pre.

6) random freezes... when charging it usually freezes and the "X" logo shows up and i have to do a battery pull in order to reset the phone.

not everything is bad tho, i really like how light this phone is, and SOME apps are nice, nothing too impressive. i am using all the GO Apps (GO Launcher/ contacts/ mesaging...)

I can't get a 4g signal for anything in baltimore. it connects and reconnects constantly at my apt. Even Downtown in the harbor. same thing..

Also in Baltimore MD with no issues whatsoever. Phone works fine in 3G, 4G, and WiFi.

So I am at home sitting next to the airrave and the Nexus dropped 4 consecutive calls. Idk, but for whatever reason it will not keep the signal. I'm passed my 30 days, but luckily I'm a silver member at BB, so I really have 45 days. I love and hate this phone, haha.

I compared my nexus s to my wife's evo at home and got about 10 percent slower 4g speeds but equal wifi speeds tested on the speedtest app. At home the signal strength for both states between 86 and 100 for both fluctuating about simultaneously. However while out her signal went up to 4-5 out of 6 while mine stayed at 1 to 2. Didn't get to check actual strength though.

Fairly new to the forum, so I hope you don't mind me posting.

Didn't want to express a specific opinion on what I think my issue is because in my particular case I think it's a combination of factors.

First I think I'm in the same boat as davpel. I'm in Southeast Michigan and service is "dicey" at times.
Second, I do think there is a problem with the device, not sure if it's hardware or software. But when I'm sitting just a few feet from a router and my wifi is bouncing in and out that's a problem.
Same with phone signal when I'm out where I should be getting good service.
I'm not looking at the bars, I'm speaking in reference to performance while talking on the phone. Sometimes it works just fine, then there are times when I can barely carry on a conversation with someone on the other end.

Another problem I've run into does show up with the connection indicators. I've notice that at times when I try to refresh a web page if the signal indicators go white the phone will just sit with no progress.
The only way I've been able to get around this is to turn off the phone and restart. Then everything goes green. Is this a related issue?

Pretty much along the lines with what I've been seeing. I can't believe I'm saying this given how excited I was for this device (and particularly the fact that it would get updates quickly), but I'm now seriously considering paying the ETF and getting a Droid Charge on Sprint.

I realize that I will be stuck with Froyo and TouchWiz for the time being, but as I use Google Music Beta and other streaming services more and more, I'm becoming increasingly reliant on data speeds and Sprint just isn't cutting it. When I have played around with the Charge here in the Metro Detroit area, the DL speeds have consistently been between 20 and 25 mbps, with some speed tests showing 35 plus! 35? After more than a year with Sprint, I've only gotten above 1 mbps on the few occasions when I've been on WiMax (once traveling to the east coast and the other times when I've been near the one WiMax tower in the City of Detroit proper).

I just don't think I can wait for an update to the Nexus S which will only serve to bring the data speeds back up from downright awful which it is now to the more typical mediocre data speeds I was getting on my Evo.

Just a little advice on the battery, if you wipe your battery stats, let it drain, charge it all the way, then let it drain again it should help. What was happening with mine is that the device thought that it was fully charged at much less than the real full charge. Of course, you're still gonna need to charge it overnight, or at least I do, but by the end of the day I'm sitting at a comfortable 30 rather than it being dead by 6. You could probably get 3 days standby with GPS off.

I do have a different complaint though. Is anyone else experiencing certain parts of the screen not responding to touch temporarily. All it takes to fix is me putting the display to sleep and bringing it back up but its still an inconvenience.

I am certainly still having problems. I've run speed tests against fianc?s evo and hers wins every time. What really bugs me is poor signal strength. With my evo I could get reception anywhere. Now with nexus when I go into the back of target I get zero signal and need to walk to front of store to browse the web. Really annoying as I was trying to read reviews of a product in the back of store.

Yes, it has happened to me where I cannot swipe the homescreen, but I'm able to click on Widgets. Once I put it to sleep and wake it up it's fine again

I have been experiencing this. It happened quite often with Black Pegasus 2 (I would start playing and the controls would just "stick") until I changed the version I had installed. Now the game plays fine, and I rarely have the screen issues while playing (still sometimes do). However, every now and then, the homescreen will just freeze and I can click things but not swipe. I've gotten it to get unstuck by clicking into the app drawer and choosing an HD game to get the CPU kicking and play for a sec.

It mainly happens when I'm texting, and I can hit the letter over and over really fast and it'll kick back in and start working, but it's almost easier to just put it to sleep and wake it up.

Its nice to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. Anyone know why?

There has been a fixed posted, but you have to root and install another kernel to use it. Idk if I'm willing to do that because of how powerful this phone is stock without me having to jump through hoops to get it to just work how it is supposed it out of the box...especially coming from the Palm Pre and EPic
