I have not found to be the case.

When the bars are white, can't use any data. The only operations that work are SMS/voice.
The 3G symbol (or the 1x) isn't there either.

When I reboot the phone, it all works. I tried turning off/on data. Tried airplane mode, on/off. The reboot is all the fixes this problem. sucks.

Well yeah, if you are showing no 3G then you're not going to have data, but you can have whited out 3G icon, wifi icon, and signal bars and still have data.

Talking about three different scenarios now.

I have have a whited out WiFi icon too (not grey), and still able to rx/tx any data, even though it shows as connected to a wifi hotspot/access point.

I really think that it having an Airave that is messing the phone up.

It's better, that's for sure because it says you have access to all the google features like Market, Talk, etc.

I think the Verizon droid phones are blue instead of green.

I believe ICS is blue to go with the theme, guess we will find out soon
