Google to address Pixel 2 XL screen issues with several software changes and offer 2 year warranty

Huh. So nothing has changed. Thanks for the info. I guess I thought that the duration of Preferred Care was less than 2 years out of the box.

Nothing from what I can tell. You have to decide if accidental damage is still worth it which is why most people buy it....and the phone support. It probably still is.

I think it's worth it. I take pretty good care of my phones usually, but I am still afraid of the occasional drop.

this is ridiculous. there was a deductible to have something repaired under warranty?

there was a deductible for accidental damage that, manufacturer defects would be covered without deductible. Now there is no deductible either way for folks that have preferred care.

I don't think that is the case. This change is for warranty deductibles, not for accidental issues / preferred care ..

https://support.google.com/store/answer/7528518?hl=en#start_a_claim

"You can claim up to 2 incidents of accidental damage for 2 years. Each time you file a claim, you’ll need to pay a deductible - $79 for Pixel 2, $99 for Pixel 2 XL, and $99 for Pixelbook.

Sorry for confusion, It looks like there were deductibles for repairs. Damage deductibles did not get removed:

"Preferred Care still costs the same at that $129 price, but rather than having to shell out a $79 or $99 deductible for the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL, respectively, when making a claim, Google is dropping these added costs entirely in favor of two claims for free during Preferred Care's two years of protection. However, what's worth noting here is that this only applies to warranty claims. If you're filing a claim due to accidental damage, the deductible will still apply."

Only for defects....not accidental damage.

So seeing as how my screen has that blackish blotchiness on the top portion of my display (makes the colors darker than the rest of my screen) does that mean I could return this one for another one whenever?

You should still be in the trial period anyway, yes?

I think the Verizon trial period is 14 days or so. So yeah I should still be in it. Would they allow me to exchange the phone for something like this and have you experienced this on your 2 XL?

Do I have to buy the 1 year warranty to get the second year for free? I bought mine from Verizon

I haven't experienced that on mine. As I understand it, you can return the phone during the trial period for anything that makes you unsatisfied with your phone.

If anyone else know differently hopefully they will chime in...
