Google to address Pixel 2 XL screen issues with several software changes and offer 2 year warranty

Slow clap. This should silence the haters. Never seen Apple respond this way. Which is why I love Google. They take care of their customers. Brian and Marquess were right to say this stuff was asinine to begin with.

Those complaining about the screens not being oversaturated can expect to see a battery hit. You won't get the same SOT as those using natural colors. But this is Android, at least you have the option of choosing.

Apple never had a screen issue like this either.
And if you've ever had an issue with an Apple product their customer service is beyond helpful. Just saying.

At this point I am forced to believe that either:

a. the blue shift is MUCH worse on some phones than it is on mine
b. some people are OCD jerks, and I wish they would just get over it

No idea which is true, may be a combination of both.

Mine was worse than some people's, but it didn't bother me and I got used to it. The burn in issue after 4 days was too much though.

Re the promise of extending warranties, Google SVP of Hardware and lying liar Rick Osterloh has a history of promising things and then reneging. Just ask owners of VZW Moto X 2014 who never got the timely updates Osterloh promised when he ran Motorola.

The two year warranty is already in place. The timely updates are a given with Google so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Um, the 2014 X was fantastic for updates until Lenovo took over. It was iirc the first device on L, getting that update the first week of November and then also had the M update in November the following year. Security updates started out right but at some point after the sale Moto switched to a quarterly schedule. Can you help us understand how Osterloh is at fault for the actions of a company he doesn't work for (Lenovo or Verizon, either one)?

Sure. Osterloh didn't leave Motorola until May 2016, well after Lenovo took over Motorola. Under Osterloh, Motorola sold devices including Moto X and Moto E with an affirmative sales pitch that they will get fast, timely updates long after people buy the device. Osterloh's Motorola stiffed buyers of VZW & ATT versions of the MX'14 and all Moto E buyers.

Here's Osterloh under Lenovo lying about Moto E updates (@ 1:30 mark) in February 2015:

To be clear - Lenovo is allowed wrongly decide not to back the goodwill promises of the company it bought. However, Osterloh was not compelled to stay, enable and implement this bad faith. He had no problem doing so.

[Don't mean to derail this thread - this is about whether people can trust Google under Osterloh's leadership, not about Motorola.]

What specific behavior while at Googles gives you cause for concern?

I make no specific claim other than the assertion in my original post: "...Rick Osterloh has a history of promising things and then reneging."

...adding, in addition to a history lacking in integrity, IMO he's done a poor job at Google running a business unit that supposed to be positioned as top-shelf quality products. This first rollout of products under his stewardship has been a publicity disaster for Google. The Buck stops at Osterloh.

We getting a two-year warranty and software updates.... there's no reneging on that

He was there for the OG Pixels too, and those came out to pretty universal acclaim.

does anybody know more or less the ETA of the software updates for the saturated mode and the Bluetooth issues

Tonight I received the following email from Google Preferred Care:

Dear Preferred Care member,

Good news: To offer even more peace of mind to our customers, we’ve extended our Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL manufacturer's warranty from 1 year to 2 years.

Since you’re one of our valued Preferred Care members, we wanted to let you know how this will affect our program. As of today, if you experience hardware failures due to normal wear and tear during your coverage period, you will not have to pay a deductible for repair or replacement.

And of course, you’ll continue to enjoy all your Preferred Care benefits, including exclusive access to our expert sessions, priority service, and two-year accidental damage coverage for up to two claims.

These changes are effective immediately, and there’s nothing that you’ll need to do. As always, you can receive a full refund on your purchase of Preferred Care for up to 30 days after your device was shipped. If you’ve made any claims, the refund will be minus any claims paid before your cancellation.

Got questions? Just contact us anytime. We’re here to help.

Thanks,
The Google Store Team

So I'd say that Google has already put that particular fix in place. I'm not worried at all.

Don't you already get the same thing with preferred care plus accidental damage?

No, my coverage has been extended, plus no deductible for 2 years. At least that's the way I read it.
