@RogerWCheng

Lenovo CEO: We will not only protect Motorola brand, we will make it stronger.

Lenovo CEO praises Moto X and Moto G, hinting that it may survive the acquisition.

Lenovo CEO says he will treat Motorola like a treasure, says he has no plans for layoffs.

Lenovo CEO says Motorola brand will be used in N. and Latin Amer. Lenovo brand will be used in China, emerging markets.

Lenovo CFO doesn't quite answer whether it will shutter US manufacturing facility, saying most of its manufacturing is outsourced now.

Lenovo CEO says he hopes to sell 100M smartphone units a year. Doesn't say when.

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

Another reason to buy Nexus.

Nobody knows the plans, but it's hard to imagine software updates taking center stage now.

Re: Say Goodbye to Moto X sales!

They sure did. Anyone that has owned a pre Lenovo think pad understands this. Lenovo was the reason that I jumped to MacBooks. Lenovo makes cheap garbage. They ruined think pads.

Re: Keep or Return for Nexus 5: What's the future?

If Lenovo can become strong in the U.S, then they'll have a bigger chance at getting big since they have already entered various other markets.

And they're the number four smartphone maker globally for Q4 2013 and number five overall for 2013.

:( And to think that this is the first phone that's excited me since the Palm pre and WebOS...

I think I bring bad mojo to any party...

I do hope that moto stays the course with thin skins and a pure android experience. No need for skins since kitkat is so smooth and polished already.

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

I'm upset because we had a great product designed in America, manufactured in America, and owned by a American company.

Those are the reasons why I purchased a Moto X.

I will likely keep this Moto X and never get rid of it. Probably the best phone I've ever had and I can say it's a true American phone.

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

But no one outside of Lenovo knows what Lenovo's plans for Motorola are yet.

Actually... Google does know what Lenovo's plans are. But part of strategy and market research is to not release that information unless it is necessary. Also, I'm not sure when Lenovo has their earning call this quarter, but they inform stock holders what their future is during those calls. All earning calls are public if the company is trading publicly.

I wonder when Motorola is gonna update their website too "Motorola a Lenovo Company" lol

Google doesn't know what Lenovo's "true" plans are.

I believe Google's call is tomorrow.

How 'bout when the deal actually becomes official...

Return Moto X bought during Sale?

Hi. I just ordered an unlocked Moto X for 299 during the one hour sale Monday. I have done lots of research on the phone, and ultimately decided on the Moto X over the Nexus 5.

I am planning on getting a new phone in about a year anyway, when I am upgrade eligible, so that probably answers my question right there, but I figured I'd ask anyway--my Moto X is about the ship, is there any reason it might be wise to return the X and pick up a N5 instead?

My initial thoughts are that the phone will be great, the absolute worst case scenario is that I do not get an upgrade to the next version of the OS, and even then, my upgrade is in a year, so I could jump ship then.

I don't want to be an alarmist about this whole situation, I just thought I'd ask everyone here if there was any reason to reconsider, because I am within the small window that a return is possible.

Thanks!

Re: Google selling Moto to Lenovo for 3 billion.

I wonder if there was any pressure from Samsung on Google to dump their competing business. Maybe this was a compromise.

Lol what happen to thread I created...I thought made a thread. I am little confuse now.

I don't really see pressure of Google having Moto when Samsung doesn't even mention google or android really when advertising their android products. Furthermore Samsung is taking Touchwiz that was android base into it's own is that easily replace all Samsung devices running Android and the masses would even notice a difference. I feel Samsung really has nothing to worry but Google as lot to worry about just a side note.

Worst case, Punit Soni has to go back on his word that Motorola will support phones for 2 years.

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

We can make some pretty accurate assumptions though.

How can you prove accuracy right now?

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

Well... no one will ever know "True" plans. But basic output of the plan has been given.

My company (QLogic) just took over another company's fibre channel line (Brocade). We only took that company's fibre channel line because we wanted to increase our market share of the product to 57% making us the leader and gain technologies/patents. This is public knowledge btw. During the acquisition, we discussed future strategy with their products and how we will incorporate our products. Eventually, we will get rid of their product and streamline ours with their technology.

I can promise you that's what Lenovo is going for, mainly to have a bigger market share in the U.S. if anything.

EDIT: BTW, I'm not just assuming. This is something that I have seen usually with competitors during mergers or takeovers. It's the simplest way to generate a bigger profit without taking a huge cut in the risk department.

True. But tell me Motorola: A Lenovo Company has as nice a ring to it!

Re: Return Moto X bought during Sale?

Well if you plan of getting a new phone in a year anyway, then you can't go wrong with the Moto X. It's a great phone and most likely will be updated to the next OS.

If in a year, it's not or you just want the new thing, simply get the next Nexus or the next Moto X.
