Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for $2.91 billion

Would you still buy a Moto X post Motorola/Lenovo Deal?

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

they should have got more up to date specs though because the g2 supposily gets close to the maxx in battery life with all the higher specs & a smaller battery so it was definitely possible to have good battery life with more up to date specs

That depends on how many apps you run or how many apps have services running the background. Moto X8 handles processing more efficiently with the different cores. So it will maximize all output.

For example, if you were to put Active Display or Moto's Touchless Control on the G2, it wouldn't run efficiently and it would more than likely drain the battery very fast. Why? Because it doesn't have a dedicated listening processor that the X8 has to minimize battery consumption. G2 Processor architecture doesn't allow for dedicated processing unless you root the device and do some kernel tweaks.

Re: Return Moto X bought during Sale?

No issues with my Moto X. Love everything about it! Had the Sammy Nexus, which was complete crap. Moto X performs like a champ! Especially Moto X's battery life and active display notifications!

In a nutshell, Its like a "nexus" device. But considered one.

+1 I'll still be ordering mine!

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

(Google): "Hey Motorola"
(Motorola): "Yes"
(Google): "We are going buy you now."
(Motorola): "Really!"
(Google): "Yes and your a Google Company now"
(Motorola): "What now?"
(Google): "Uh...make phone or something" *as Google file Motorola's patents away*
(Motorola): "Oh that's right a phone do you mean a droid?"
(Google:)No! Your a Google Company now. Do what ever you like.
(Motorola): "Well their rumors on the internet that we are making some kind super duper 'X' phone can we do that?"
(Google): "Sure..."
(Motorola): Mr.Google so we have this idea to make a customizable phone called the Moto X and it will be assemble in the USA. Can we get any help or advice?
(Google): No! Your not getting any special treatment. Here's a tip have a lot of data because we love data and remember your Google Company.
(Motorola): Oh right sir we're a Google Company.
*A week later*
(Motorola): Mr.Google we built new assemble line for the Moto X in Texas isn't that great?
(Google): *Google gets of the phone and the Caller ID says L-E-N-O-V-O* "You did what....uh yeah that awesome..."
(Motorola): Here's the data.
* A couple months later*
(Motorola): "Mr.Google we finally goto the Moto X wood backs in and price cuts as well as the Moto G for playstore as well. I can't thank you enough Mr.Google for this opportunity and freedom. It's great to be a Google Company"
(Google):"Hey! Your not Google Company. We sold you to Lenovo."
(Motorola):" What did I do wrong"
(Google):"It's nothing personal kid but we just wanted your patents"

I like Google but I think they bought Moto for the patents because selling a company doesn't happen over night. Even though Moto was losing money quarterly it's hard for Google to hold profit as a excuse as Google TV and Nexus Line are not big profit makers.

the best way to tell is to turn off both features then compare battery life but i dont have a g2 and i wouldnt want to turn of active notifications without a led anyways i also heard the htc one maxx does pretty good on battery life

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

And?

Google didn't want it anymore. (My assumption still stands: it was all about the patents and maybe Project Ara all along)

I'll be concerned if Punit Soni gets cut. I don't know that yet so I'm not in a position to react as if everything is known.

Agreed

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

I ordered a Moto X a few days ago via Phones4U in the UK (they got exclusivity on the white model in the UK for 3 months) and it's due to arrive tomorrow... I'll be returning that phone pronto - thank god for Distance a Selling Regulations!!

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

I guess I'm not the only former Motorola user who hates the new line of phones. Next time don't go cheap on the processor and keep the SD card.

Beamed from my Galaxy Note 3

SD cards are to today's phones what floppy disc were to computers....a phased out, dated technology. And I say that as someone who actually liked having the option, but time marches on and so does technology. And the processor is just fine and keeps up with anything you could throw at it so not an issue.

First of all, you've clearly never used a Moto X. My sister-in-law actually just sold her G2 to buy a Moto X during the $100 off promo because she likes my brother's so much. Free your mind from the spec sheet.

Second of all, punctuation exists for a reason. Nothing personal, but trying to read your posts is painful.

It's not about Motorola it's about us as consumers. We really like the direction Motorola has done with the new handsets. People can say what they want but things will change with somebody else running the company.

Which is why I said it will be interesting to see what management moves they make.

Again, this is all just speculation. There could be dramatic changes, there could be no changes, or there could be something in between. Unless you know something we don't and have a source to back it up, I'm just gonna sit here and use the wait-and-see approach.

Sorry i have more street smarts then school smarts. Im not sure exactly where punctuation goes. Well i know where it goes. I just don't know when a sentence ends.

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

Note - the Texas plant where the US Moto Xs are assembled is a Flextronics plant.

Re: Return Moto X bought during Sale?

If your buying one with a 2-year contract, then yeah, I'd probably go for something else. But if you're paying full retail, then I would keep it.

Re: Google to sell Motorola Mobility to Lenovo for around $3 billion.

All I'm saying is that the most common formula for when a hardware competitor takes over another hardware competitor of the same category is to apply Moto's technology to their own.
and the bottom line is this, people can say all they want that no one knows for sure what lenovo will do with motorola, but the hardware business has some well established patterns when it comes to acquisitions that very few if any companies deviate from.

But looks like, at this time, Lenovo is only keeping their current technology and Moto's R&D team is moving to Google Android team.
ugh.

I can't tell you how much less excited I am to receive my walnut Moto X than I was before I found this out. I am keeping it for sure, but I am not going to tear open the box with the excitement of a 5 yo opening a christmas present like i would have before this news. *sniff*

It's so true that I would not want Google to buy HTC which I earlier stated because if Google is only interested in patents and the companies future projects then HTC hide needs to hide.
