Google Voice still an option while traveling to Australia?

We'll be going to Australia to visit our daughter and I'm wondering if Google Voice would still work for connecting with US based phones while there.
We were there in 2014, and I used Google Voice while with Sprint at that time and it worked great. I know things have changed, but I don't know how, exactly.
I'll be taking the laptop if that would make a difference. Anybody able to help?

I guess not many have too much experience with it but a quick Google sounds like it will. Good luck. If not then I would think if you used a VPN abroad and set the server to a US location you should be good.

Yeah, I think you're right, Google Voice has changed and not many use it.

It used to be that you could continue using your own phone number, and that let my clients reach me easily, seamlessly. I did see the article you linked, thanks. I think I may need to figure something else out, maybe a VPN as you suggested. Thanks.
