Google Wallet and EVO3D's Lack of NFC

Poeple (i think) are overestimating NFC. Google Wallet seems cool, but it only supports Citi, Mastercard, and Google prepaid cards. :P

You two clearly didnt watch the video LOL

Video? Is the video in 3D so I can watch it SOON on my 3VO? :D I get the convenience thing, but am still concerned about the security aspects. Since my need isn't that great for it, it isn;t a big deal, and far from a deal breaker for me. But for real, if you got a link I can check out, maybe it'll sway my thinking if the 3VO doesn't come out until the twelve of never. :p

It's cool if you want the Nexus S, but I can't imagine how this feature would in anyway be a deal breaker. If two phones were exactly the same and one had the NFC chip, then of course I'd go for that one, but no phone coming out in the next month that has NFC is going to be comparable to the Evo 3D.

Its going to be a FAR more useful feature in the coming months than 3D will ever be :)

I have RFID tags all set up and its great. One for home and one for the car. So rather than going into my phone and turning off wifi, enabling bluetooth and car home and turning my ringer all the way up and turning on 4G...all I do is tap my phone to a tag and its all done automatically. Then when I get home, just tap it to my "home" tag to set it all up how it was.

That's like saying "Being able to make phone calls will be FAR more useful than 3D." Well duh... 3D wasn't developed for its usefulness, it was developed because it was a neat feature! I personally have no use/desire for the NFC chip, so I'll be passing.

Anyway, why do you keep trolling the Evo 3D boards about your amazing Nexus S? If I wanted to read about the Nexus S, I'd go to the Nexus S forum (but I don't). I'm happy that you got the phone that's right for you (and it's a great phone), but it seems like you're just trying to start arguments most of the time, and that's FAR less useful than the 3D will ever be. :)

Now for that troll, how about i have both the 3D feature and the NFC? Check out the link if you havent already read about it. Netcom shows off microSD card with integrated NFC goodness (video) -- Engadget Now the 3D will be in the clear since it doesnt have a metal back, but the sensation does. So yea the Nexus S has it now with very limited uses, but once NFC takes off, we with the 3D's will also have the extended capabilities by getting one of these cards.

NFC isn't that big of a deal for me ATM. I think it will kinda cool for the next 8-12 months and then really take off. The industry hasn't realized the full potential of it yet. Having it in an SD card sounds interesting...I wonder how that will interact with the phone itself (maybe I should read the link :)

By the time this takes off I will be looking at getting the third gen Evo.

Which will have the tech. Same here. :-) At this point, I really think that NFC is as much of a novelty as the 3D function of the Evo 3D, but I do see the point that NFC can mature into wide use. 3D doesn't really have much value outside of entertainment.

I suppose it is just a preference in the end. The kind of person that would pick the Nexus S because of the NFC chip is likely the kind of person that will upgrade every year anyway. Since 3D has the benefit of immediate enjoyment/entertainment, and NFC has to mature a bit before being incredibly useful, I'll just pick it up with my 3rd gen Evo next year.

Besides, isn't anyone at least a BIT creeped out that you've given google all of our personal info, they know the location of our phone, and now we're supposed to give them all of our credit cards? I understand that it's all encrypted and whatnot, but still a bit creepy.

Okay so I get the basics of what it will do based on the convos, but can someone tell me exactly what NFC even is?

Well, it stands for near field communication. From what I understand, it's basically RFID that is limited to a short range. You can just tap things to exchange information (ie credit card info). I'm sure google will give you all of the info that you could want (and more! :)).
