Gorilla Glass

that's because the Pre is plastic. We all know the EVO is glass, but what type--that is the question.

i think its similar to the gorilla glass, but i don't think they want to promote it because that would just be an open invitation for people to rough up their phones and then use it against htc.

Where is the "will it blend" guy? He is ruthless, he should do the scratch test before blending it. Or how cool would it be if someone handed Steve jobs a EVO and a knife, if it won't scratch after he is through with it then we know we got some good glass and save ourselves the screen protector!

I had a pre almost since it was launched, and never put a screen protector on it. Big mistake. Its completely scratched to hell now and is pretty painful to look at. Thats what I get for not putting a protector on a plastic screen phone.

Now Im about to upgrade to an EVO, and I will not make the same mistake again. But, since I heard about the EVO I never could get a definitive answer about what the screen is made of. This thread confuses me even more, the OP says he got an email from HTC themselves saying the screen is made of Gorilla Glass, yet many people are disputing this. I would really love for once to know for sure what the hell the EVOS screen is made of. I guarantee all of us former Pre owners are very concerned about this.

well, unlike the pre, the evo's screen is glass...you would need something very hard to scratch glass

Like i said, it might be a very similar formula to Gorilla Glass but not ACTUALLY that BRAND and therefore HTC cant use that name officially.

I'm an employee at Sprint - as I've mentioned before - and I'll try to answer this for you. I talked to someone I will call a "device person" today, and she said that she did not think it had Gorilla Glass, but this was only based on the fact that she thought they'd be advertising it more if they did. She's going to look into it for me and get back to me. I'll let you all know what I find out.

Given that it's AT LEAST glass, I think it's pretty scratch-resistant. Unless you're a woman, with a diamond ring. Or a guy that loves his jewelry, that's cool too.

ok now that we know our Evo's have gorilla glass, whats the best way to remove scratches from it? I ordered this scratch cleaning kit on amazon: Amazon.com: Novus Polish Kit, Plastic Polish & Scratch Remover…

in hopes it will remove my 2 moderate scrathes on my evo. to give you an idea on how bad the scratches are: I can see them only when I'm looking directly at it or at a good angle and outside in the sun or in a well lit room, I can feel the scratches only when I drag my finger nail across them not when I put my finger across them.

I've been trying to order the ZAGG invishield for evo 4g but they're sold out everywhere! I'm going to head over to ZAGG HQ (they're in my town) and see whats up.

What you linked is for plastic, acrylic, and fiberglass. I don't think it will work so well for glass. And worst case scenario it could do something bad.

Actually Im not so sure we know the EVO has gorilla glass. And you might want to check your local best buy for the Zagg shield. Thats where I got mine, they had plenty in stock.

This is a very common misconception of glass. Diamonds aren't the only thing that can cut/scratch glass. There are MANY things that are harder than glass or "Gorilla Glass". Try taking the green side of a sponge to some glass and tell me what results you come up with. A sharp end on a key will easily scratch glass too if you aren't careful. It is pretty scratch resistant though.

If you don't want scratches, put a screen protector on your EVO. PERIOD.

I still dont know if this is really glass..

if you put it to your lips to the screen, its not as cold as glass would be.
also, if you look VERY closely around the lcd edges where the black border meets the gray lcd (with the phone off), you can see a slight bevel from what looks like a heated treatment of some sort not like glass, more like a plexi/glass hybrid..

i dunno, im not taking any chances until this is sorted out as far as what material this is, AND/OR a video is posted confirming its scratch resistance.
