Gorilla Glass

I usually hate resurrecting long dead threads, but I thought this one was worth it. I've seen several of these threads asking if the EVO has Gorilla Glass or not and the responses have always been the same: "Yes it does", "no it doesn't", "I talked to HTC and they say no", "Sprint says yes", etc., etc.

Given this article on AC main page: HTC Sensation has Gorilla Glass, aluminum unibody chassis | Android Central and the response to the first comment provides this link: CORNING® GORILLA® GLASS

It's strange because I know I searched the corrninggorillaglass website in the past and NOT seen the EVO listed. Does this mean that ALL EVOs have Gorilla glass? Or does it mean that starting with a specific hardware revision they have it?

lol.

Well, I know there's been a million and one tests performed out there, but I'll toss in my $.02 from this past weekend... I was crawling out of a car's back seat with my Evo in my hand and proceeded to trip over the seatbelt. I came crashing down face first to the paved parking lot, caught myself with my hands, and landed right on my Evo with the screen side down, feet still stuck in the car on the seatbelt! I instantly felt not that feeling of success of having caught myself from the brink of a facial embolism, but that deep dark feeling of having to spend the next year of my life with a scratched Evo screen. Slowly I turned, the phone that is... and lo and behold, not a scratch!!!! ... and there was much rejoicing!

that may be your individual experience, but there is no gorilla glass on the EVO

So, eyecon82, are you saying that Corning Glass is lying on their website? Did you follow the link I posted? How can you say "there is no gorilla glass on the EVO" with what is contained in that link?

no gorilla glass because I dropped a evo on ceramic tiles just 2 feet above and the whole thing shattered......

The xoom has gorilla glass, but it isn't listed on that site....

Sorry, but that does not mean it doesn't have it. Just means that the drop was unlucky enough to land is just the right manner and place just the right stress on the glass that it broke. Gorilla glass is damage resistant not damage proof. My daughter dropped her Epic about 18 inches from her lap to our concrete driveway and it shattered, that doesn't mean the Epic doesn't have gorilla glass...

dang...I just figured that if it shattered so easily, there is no way it would have it....I have just lost all confidence in gorilla glass now

I guess like anything perhaps a piece slipped through without proper quality control, or a defect of some kind?

Gorilla Glass is not unbreakable. Even on Corning's website they state: "Visually stunning, lightweight, and highly damage-resistant". Do a Google search for 'shattering gorilla glass' and you'll find many of the different Gorilla Glass devices show up. Some even have videos.

right! you got it.

GG helps with protect against scratches... but again it is glass.. not some magical material. it will shatter. it will also scratch by using the right material.

only something as hard as it is or harder can scratch any particular material. a diamond is the hardest and can only be scratched by another diamond.

you can take a razor a cross the GG and not scratch. glass is harder than razor metal! take sand paper and try...sand is made of glass. please.. i take no responsibility for the outcome of that test!!!!!! :p

ps.. evo has GG

My Pre had scratches within a day or two.

But the Pre is plastic, not even glass, much less gorilla glass ;). Supposedly the Pre2 has gorilla glass, but the 5 people who bought one aren't willing to admit the actually bought in order for us to find out the truth behind that. :D

My EVO has been naked since day one and is still scratch free. I even accidentally kicked it across a travertine floor face down (approx 15 feet). :( My heart stopped for a second....

From my understanding the EVO does NOT have gorilla glass.

I am pretty careful w my phone. Always put it inside a cloth pouch.

I dont mind a protective screen, but just cant do it with lint gets in the way! Its frustration.

So this is gorilla glass? Great, I dont need any protection then.
