Gorilla Glass

^^^^

I think he's comparing a glass of beer to the glass on the EVO's screen. C'mon, that's just not a fair comparison! :p

I still dont know if this is really glass..

if you put it to your lips to the screen, its not as cold as glass would be.

In case you haven't noticed there are electronics inside your EVO 4G, and these electronics generate heat, which in turn heats up the glass on your screen, that and the probability that you are doing this in a room that is at room temperature means that it is quite unlikely that it will be as cool as a windowpane

Just incase anybody cared. I got this response from HTC. I liked the gorilla glass on my other products so I am sure itll be the same with this guy.

Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support via E-Mail with your inquiry about the glass on the EVO 4g. Yes the EVO 4g has gorilla glass. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any future questions

they do NOT have gorilla glass

See first post. Why are you so certain they do NOT have it?

To be clear, I have no idea. I'm just curious how you know for a fact the original post is incorrect.

I don't get why this is such a big deal. Are people planning on storing their Evos in a bucket of gravel if it is Gorilla Glass?

Don't get all giddy your screen will scratch. The Md had same screen and I have scratches all over it.

All glass will scratch. Even very high end sapphire crystal in some watch faces will scratch.

Who really cares if it's Gorilla glass? Sure it may be stronger to shattering (which we already know it's still possible, many people have smashed their Droid's screen and everyone knows IT has gorilla glass), but it's not scratch-proof; just scratch resistant. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE! If you want to keep your screen scratch-free, GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR, gorilla glass won't save you.

Whatever it is I think you guys should still protect it. I have a 2mm scratch on mine right now. I have no idea how i got it since I always put my phone in one pocket by itself. Been doing that with my Treos, Mogul, TP, TP2.

Sapphire will only scratch if you scratch it with an object that is higher on the Mohs Hardness Scale (or if you take a softer object put push the atoms beyond their elasticity and plasticity into failure) like a metal hammer used with force.

There are few common objects you would normally have in your pocket that is harder than glass (which is 6 to 7 on the Mohs Hardness Scale). Unless you walk around with a pocket full of topaz, sapphires, and diamonds, you should be okay.

The real danger is dust and small grains of sand that can contain quartz (which, at 6 to 7 can be harder than your glass) that gets between your finger and the glass. That is where most scratches will come from, not from keys.

EDIT: DAMNIT! Sorry guys, I asked the person two questions and she was responding to them backwards. I thought she had said "yes" to this and "still waiting to hear back" on the other thing. So my apologies, this is my fault, but I'll eventually get you the final word on this.

OK, as I stated before I am an employee at Sprint, and I had asked our device group to confirm for me what glass they use in the EVO.

It IS Gorilla Glass, made by Corning. That probably explains why that guy could take a razor blade and rough it up and not see a scratch. Of course if you really want to avoid scratches you probably should still consider a screen protector, but if you're like me and screen protectors are annoying enough that you avoid using them, then you should take some comfort in the fact that it will take a beating before it scratches.

so does that mean the nexus one is gorilla glass as well? because the same video using a knife to scratch the nexus glass was done, with no scratches at all. but the nexus is known to NOT have gorilla glass.

the same video was done for the incredible.

i'm just saying, they would have advertised it as having gorilla glass, thats a major selling point for some people.

It can also be a negative for any other product that doesn't use it.

Once you get a brand name stuck in people's heads, they tend to become obsessed with it and assume anything else is far inferior.

I mean look at this thread. There's nothing saying that there aren't other glass formulas that are as durable as "gorilla glass," but people are hellbent on finding out what the Evo's screen is made of because they have an alleged baseline to compare it to.

i have two scratches on my screen. i have been very careful with my phone and it has never been in contact with keys or anything hard or sharp. not sure how those scratches happened but I'm now worried about how durable this glass is even though it is supposed to be gorilla glass.

i just put my clairvue on, im not taking any chances.
this weekend i'll go shopping for a case or something

I can also confirm you can scratch the screen and its pretty easy. I have two scratches already and I'm pretty carefully with my phone. I didn't have any scratches on my hero for the whole time I had it about 3 months.

Mine has a few scratches from the very first day I got it, but I'm not sure how they got there, since i never dropped it, and I don't keep ANYTHING in my pocket except the phone.

It has a screen protector now.
