Just got an invitation to join Google's new experiment called Bard. An AI generator. For being a Pixel Superfan. I'm normally not a fan of things like this and Chat Gpt but I thought I'd give it a try. I'm on the wait list.

Nice! have fun! Hope they improved it since the last disaster when they showed it off. Most expensive search mistake ever!

I got the same email, it's only an invitation to get on the wait list though. When you click the link in your email that's where it takes you.

I'm not sure I feel comfortable with the terms of service. Not really worth the risk.

All AIs now have similar terms. They use YOUR DATA (and everyone else's) to build up their database. It's privacy out the window (with some security layers implemented by the developers, but still...) I mean, just look at the latest ChatGPT bug where other people had access to other users' chat history. Companies have started to warn employees about trying to use these AI bots for work and unknowingly post internal information/protected/copyrighted material out for the world to use.

Also, it seems Bard is now open to everyone (to join the waitlist, that is).

I give away most of my data unknowingly, but if I can opt out of this then I will. I don't really have any reason to use chat gpt or Bard, so I'm going to pass on it.

Once upon a time Digital Assistants were snubbed by some as 'I don't need it' things. BBerry thought touchscreen phones and non-business apps weren't gonna dent their smartphone crown back in the day. AI-assisted driving was taken as many as scary and not worth it, yet now we're making lane keep assist and pedestrian detection a standard and legally required feature. Digital currency is still a 'don't understand it, don't care' to a lot of people, yet it's causing both fortunes and banking system collapses. Wireless charging was a 'gimmick' on phones once upon a time.

AI like this is taking off. It's a thing. Will be a thing. May not be 'your' thing but it'll affect everyone soon, so if not at the 'expert user' level, at the very least we should make an effort to see 'what the point is' before it's too late to comprehend and keep up with the way things are going to be sooner than later.

I don't always have a use case for everything new under the sun. A lot of it won't ever improve my life in any way. Plus most of it is a distraction and just one more thing to clutter my life and take me away from things and people that are important to me. I'm mainly speaking of technology. I do understand that technology should be used as a tool and not consume us. But sadly I don't see many people who have a healthy relationship with their tech. I know I sound like I'm old and set in my ways, but as I'm getting older, I'm 45 and age is relative to maturity, I'm learning that not everything out there is for me.

I have dabbled with chat gpt and Midjourney and I don't see a need for them in my life as of right now. I have too many other things in my life that get my attention first. I am excited to see how others use them and what they can accomplish with them.

If people still reject it when it becomes useful and reliable, then that is one thing. But at the moment they aren't really anything more than a mansplaining engine that is confidently wrong most of the time.
