What your Droid X plan.

Being a fan of touch screens, large screens in particular, the X is better to my likes. The Droid 2 looks to be identical to its original which while I enjoyed it, wasnt a fan of the slide out keyboard and I never once used it.

The few things Im worried about the X are:

-Cant be used internationally
-Cant be used on LTE which is launching later in the year which will make this phone obsolete.
-Can or can it not be rooted? I read somewhere that the OS is making it rough to root.

Those are my main concerns with the device :(

Well about the root thing, I can see it being hard to root as the Droid X's out there currently from the event are not the full version, it's a demo for advertising purposes, while I'm not completely sure as I could be wrong, but the one me and my friend got to mess with wasn't fully featured, and you can't have loopholes without the entire OS.

Did you by chance notice how the viewing angles were with the device? As an example, the EVO's viewing angles are terrible (because of the cheap screen they use). I'm hoping this isn't the case with the Droid X.

You know the CEO of VZW has gone on record saying LTE devices (as in phones and not data cards) will not be available until Q2 2011. Now, there are rumors that Verizon is "lying" and will surprise everyone in Q4 2010 with the launch of their LTE network and a LTE device, but come on. Do you really think that's going to happen? It for sure isn't confirmed, even though you make it sound like that. Even if it does launch 4G this winter, the Droid X will not be obsolete because 3G is still going to be everywhere and LTE will still be in it's infancy, being in only 20-25 markets.

I'm going to go with the notion that HTC makes ****ty ****ing crappy devices and therefore use ****ty ****ing poopy farty smelly screen that come off their devices...like the Evo. Motorola, on the other hand, makes quality products from what I've seen and should deliver a good screen with good viewing angles for the Droid X.
:)

If you've used the reg Droid, you know that the view angles are pretty good, you can see it from just about any angle, and the Droid X seems even better than my fathers Droid as far as the viewing angles, but I might have taken your question wrong.

That's great news. Most likely using an IPS panel (which the original Droid used as well). Which would explain why it performed so closely to the iPhone 4 in a screen comparison.

Thanks for answering :)

Quality products like the Devour, Flipout, and Backflip, huh?

HTC has not once produced a phone 1/10 as gimicky and full of garbage as Motorola has been spewing out since the original Droid.

It looks like they get their stuff together with the Droid X and stopped messing around like a bunch of toddlers in a sandbox. Hopefully it turns out to be as good as it looks and seems so far, and hopefully it carries over to the Droid 2 as well.

This is not directed just at you, but at the Android Central community as a whole, I'd rather not turn my thread into an opinionated hate spewing thread, this is merely for questions. Thanks.

Say what you will about their low-end devices, but HTC's high-end ones have been nothing but terrible.

Evo: Battery life, screen separation, touch screen issues (I mean, really?!)
Incredible: Reception issues, battery life, touch screen issues, and (just my opinion on this one) a very chintzy and cheap feel to the body.
Nexus One: Capacitive bottom buttons don't work half the time (a VERY known issue) and the same touch screen issue as the Evo and Incredible.

Seems like HTC makes great phones :p

Lawyered.

I think the issue with Motorola making gimicky phones is the same as the issue brought up in the last poscast. Android was made to be versatile. Whether it's power phones or casual (read: gimicky) phones. It's not something we should mock, it's something we should embrace because it brings people who aren't looking for a high end phone into the Android community.

It's one of Googl'es best leg-ups over Apple (along with better OS and other things lol), so I think we should welcome these phones, even if some of us would never want to buy one.

THIS IS NOT A BASH POST, however, I hate motoblur, but thats okay, as there is people out there that LOVE it, for me its just much too cluttered and I have way too much social stuff going on to want it all on one screen at once, it would just be too much.

Yea, I totally understand. My limited experience with it didn't leave me with warm feeling either. I'm just saying that while these devices aren't for some people, devices that many people on this forum use aren't sutable for everyone either, lol.

I know there's a pretty big majority of power-users here (I love that term haha), so it's hard to make this point without feeling a little foolish. Just want to get a few different ideas floating around.

And I appreciate your respectable response :)

Really I see no point in bashing any phone out there(Android based that is) as for things that are not Android based, FREE GAME, as we are an Android website, we shouldn't be bashing ourselves, if you catch my drift. Anyways, back to the X, any questions ANYONE??

Exactly.

The size will be interesting to pocket/ handle. I checked out the evo at my local sprint store and that does feel big, but man I could stare into a screen that big and beautiful all day...might get me into trouble at work...

It feels great to handle, and I could see how one might be worried about pocketing it, but unless your wearing super tight pants, having it in your pockets shouldn't be too bad as it is super thin.

I agree with you. Haha a screen this big could be easy on the eyes :)

I'm just worried how the screens going to be. Hear mixed reviews regarding the display quality. However ill probably still get it. I'm also worried about what's next with LTE. This thing gonna become obsolete quick or good for many months ahead... we shall see.
