GPS fix

Just flashed the CWM file and the difference for me is amazing. Google maps found me in roughly three seconds. Thank you for the info landshark!

You're welcome. If you have an XDA username, don't forget to thank the real sources.

Once again Landshark, thanks for your hard work and dedication to make everyones devices that much better. Just Flashed (cause since i own a fascinate i have become a flashaholic) and works like a charm, Inside where i never get a gps lock, gonna head over to XDA and thank to the original source.

outside... the lock for me is almost immediately, insdie however, i havent really seen much improvement.

Anyone else having these results?

Absolutely amazing! I could never use my navigation before no matter what I tried because the gps could never lock and stay within 2000 meters. Now it locked on within 4 meters and started giving directions instantly. More testing tomorrow but for now, thank you good sirs!

I've been following this at XDA but wanted to let people following this thread know how this worked for me.

This solved my problem, or at least it seems to have.

My issue (since this is my first post in this tread) was after enabling GPS after it had been off for awhile and starting a program that needed GPS I would not get a lock and using a program like GPS status would show that it was not even listening for Satellites. Resetting the location data did nothing to help the issue like it used to on some past ROMs.

However, after a reboot the GPS would find/lock fine.

Like some I was a skeptic that this was just some timing issue with a time server, but decided to give this a try, and it does seem to have solved the problem for me. I still need to give it true test like leaving it off overnight. But I'm pretty optimistic.

Cheers to all who have helped spread this solution across the Fascinate interverse.

Well I left my GPS off overnight and fired it up with Navigation this morning while on the road. It just kept saying "searching for gps" or whatever and Maps could not get within 2900 meters. I went into Manage Apps and force stopped Maps and cleared data. When I went back into both Maps and Navigation they were spot on instantly and stayed that way.

I have ran all kinds of tests and so far, nothing solid to show me a difference, but I will charge the phone up and try again. Messing with this killed the battery.

I tried this on two Fascinates yesterday and had some hope. They would both lock within seconds but that was normal after obtaining the first lock. After they sat overnight (with gps always enabled) I tried thenm today and had the usual results. Each took a couple minutes for a lock. Repeated tests give me an almost instant lock but its that first run each day that sometimes takes forever.

Hey everyone and especially NOsquid. I've been following the XDA thread like I said I would, and you called it NOsquid about the possibility of this fix not sticking after the phone sat all night long with the GPS off. Not everyone, but a few people reported this over at XDA. But those people who reported it also said they rebooted their phones and the instalock came right back after the reboot. Thought I would share this info with everyone, but especially you NOsquid as you are definitely more knowledgeable than I when it comes to this. I figured the more info that knowledgeable people had, the better chance we had of someone coming up with a permanent solution to the Fascinate's GPS problems. Thank you everyone for your continued input.

Can someone help me change it back to north america? Apparently im one of a kind with this problem, but my gps has become worse than ever after applying it, actually I guess nosquid agrees. I edited the config file with text editor (mac) that ol boy uploaded, I changed the us to north-america but i couldnt replace the file with any file editor. I also tried unzipping the cwm one and changing the file in that, then compressing it into a zip with zip utility (mac) and tried flashing that, but it just froze, so I yanked its life support. And am now here. Is there a relatively easy way to modify cwm files? I don't want to request anyone else to do it , but if its just changing a few words somewhere and using a certain program, then... someone telling me that would be nice. Feel free to brush me from your shoulder if this is too extreme of a request.

Identical results for me as well. If I turn my phone on and let it idle without opening anything, I would lose my average 2-3% an hour. If I opened then closed maps, I would start losing close to 10% an hour at idle. Seems to be something related to the network location service. I didn't see any difference in lock times (which have been excellent since DJ05) so I just undid the "fix."

As others are stating, ever since DJ05, the GPS seems to be much more sensitive to buildings. If I'm on the top floor of my home, I get a lock instantly. Outside, or in a vehicle, instant as well. Going down a floor or 2, or being in a large building, will slow down the lock time considerably. But I ask you this... When do you need to use navigation inside a building?

Sorry this hasn't had the same effect for everyone

Or worse yet... Zombies.

Wonder if google would update traffic information for them. You would certainly want to find the least congested route.
