GS9 wont connect to car stereo via USB?

hey guys, Im having some troubles connecting my phone via usb to my aftermarket pioneer head unit in my car. I usually just use bluetooth but i want a higher quality audio. This worked perfectly with my old GS6+, so i am sure that it is not an issue with my stereo, but with my phone. Except for one thing... once in a while when i plug it in it will start playing samsung music, but once i try to play spotify and make my phone make any sound (ringtones, game music), the samsung music stops and the sound plays through my phone speakers. a while back i researched it but couldn't find anything. Any suggestions?

First try a different USB cable. Such as the one that came with your phone.

tried it. its something to do with the phone

Mine only works 100% when I start the car with the phone already connected via cable. If I plug the cable in after the car/HU are running, only successful some of the time.

Or something with the head unit. Check OEM for firmware update for stereo. If it's an older model you might be out of luck.
