Guess I'm going to leave AT&T if we don't get 6.0 by the end of the month.

AT&T is testing 6.0 for release and the active will get updated. I just pulled some of the test builds from the server.

That's cool to see! Thanks for sharing. After seeing your post, I'm once again optimistic that the update will be here shortly. Did Samsung give you a difficult time about replacing your device? What made you go directly through them and not just doing a warranty exchange with AT&T which would have definitely been faster?

If you can work ADB there are guides at XDA on how to install some of S6 Active 6.0 iupdates that have been leaked.

Thanks. This is my daily driver and I don't have a backup. I'm not confident enough to jump into ADB and update to an unofficial build.

IF this phone is your daily driver and you have no backup I agree that you shouldn't tinker around with stuff like this. I have 2 backups and i can be a test dummy for a lot of stuff regarding the S6 Active to let people know how it turns out. One ting is that with this unofficial build android pay doesn't work at all, but samsung pay saves the day once again.

This is a do it at your own risk type of thing if you don't have a backup. I have like 2 other phones to use so I could do this with my S6 Active.

[HOWTO] Update your Galaxy S6 Active firmwar… | Samsung Galaxy S6

Firstly, thank you for sharing the link to the XDA forums. I like to live on the edge a little so I went ahead and rolled with Option 3 to get 6.0.1 on my Active. I followed the instructions to a T, but was getting an error from ADB: "null device not found" or something like that. Make sure you let Windows search for the latest drivers for the device.

After getting ADB to connect, the update ran for about 35 minutes and booyah! Marshmallow 6.0.1. Even if this is a leaked unofficial build, it is 1000 times better than my experience with 5.1.1.

Here are just a few things I like:
  • quick and snappy transitions between menus and apps
  • Already seeing improved battery life
  • My Places is a great widget that is based on my location
  • Improved drop down notification and settings
  • Samsung Good Lock customizes the lock screen
  • Wi-Fi Calling is enabled
  • Recent Apps management is improved
  • System keyboard looks great
  • Camera settings are more accessible

That's all I can think of now. I don't know why it's taking AT&T so long to get this out, but when it arrives, I'm sure you all will be very very pleased.

I guess I will just wait for the updated. I did try the 1st option it seem safer out the 3. But it didn't work.

You have to follow the instructions to the letter to get it to work and also make sure all drivers are installed.

I now right At&t like stop drag it's feet on everything, thats why this is the last phone I will ever have thats carrier branded. I don't even want the S7 active either after seeing what they did to the S7.

What bugs from 5.1 have been fixed? Any new bugs found yet? Thanks

For me the biggest issues were battery life, lag, and the notification shade not pulling down at times. All are fixed. I use package disabler and was always baffled why I had RAM Free/Total: 250/2809 no matter what I did. I disabled a ton of apps and it still hovered around there. Its about 1050/2809 now and I havent disabled any of the ATT bloatware. Phone runs much better overall.

How's the WiFi connection?

Also does the phone still duplicate the resizing when you send videos via text? I hate how when the I upgraded to 5.1 awhile back the phone started resizing videos twice.
Thanks

Looks like the S6 Active will get it in a few weeks - the S7 Active launch is right around the corner and that will be the time we get the update - since the S6 is getting it today.

Originally didn't they say the update was coming in April?

AT&T did not disclose any information to the public. Internal documentation from Samsung regarding the updating of their product line to Marshmallow was leaked towards the end of last year. The S6 was supposed to have it's ROM update locked down and delivered to OEMs by January and because the S6 Active updates are carrier-exclusive variances of the S6 updates, the update would have been done around the same time, and sent to AT&T for further refinements. The general SOP is to release an update within 90 days of receiving it from Samsung, so that testing and refinement can be done, so April/May was the assumed launch date for Marshmallow roll-out. Obviously, AT&T has chosen to roll-out it's Marshmallow updates later than other carriers, so things have been set back 2-4 weeks or more. The issue of Android Security Patches has also raised some issues with the update process, as they are trying to get the latest patches in with the finalized updates and there is pressure to increase the number of security updates, which also wreaks havoc with the update certification process.

I'm glad my S6 Active is not my daily driver. This update process with ATT is crap. My other phones are an unlocked iPhone 6s+ and Nexus 6P. Thank goodness their updates are from the OEM not ATT.
