[GUIDE][8/1] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Downloaded bug less yesterday but haven't gotten around to installing it yet. I want something with more features than jelly belly but I don't see anything out that really does. Undecided to stay on jelly belly until some big time roms or just keep crack flashing.... Any opinions?

I'm going to be flashing the new Bugless today. Looks like the remaining issues are fixed.

I think we'll start seeing features soon, but not "too" soon.

Re: [GUIDE][7/12] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

Please excuse the noob but I have a few questions...
I unlocked/rooted/flashed my first ROM to get Jelly Bean a couple of weeks ago using the #2 Pure Jelly ROM on the front page. I actually really like the stock experience and I've not had any show stoppers so far with the ROM I used. I'd love to spend time experimenting but I don't really have time right now, is it worth going to one of the AOSP builds that have come out in the past couple of days, which one is closest to stock and what will I get that I don't already have in Pure Jelly?

Bugless Beast.

You'll get a bit more stability and a cleaner rom because it's built from source and not from a port.

Re: [GUIDE][7/12] Jelly Bean Now! Resources & Discussion

to those flashing to JB3.4, if you rely on autorestore, download Kejar's GAPPS and jake's as well

kejar's has working restore, but no camera/gallery

flash everything as you normally would, boot into the phone and set everything up
then reboot into recovery, flash jake's GAPPS, then go to Advanced>Fix Permissions, and voila the camera/gallery returns

smooth sailing so far

Flashed Jelly Bean (4.1.1) official stock update, no keyboard!

Full disclosure, I am a noob, I?m just very good at following instructions (generally). I followed Efrant?s instructions (xda-developers - View Single Post - [REF] [HOW-TO] [GSM & CDMA] Official Google OTA update URLs -- Latest: JRO03C 4.1.1). At first it didn?t work because I didn?t have the correct stock radio, so I flashed the original radio (for Yakju 4.04) back in, and tried again and it worked like a charm.

However, I have noticed a couple of problems that other people haven?t identified?

  1. No stock keyboard. The famous Jelly Bean keyboard that everybody has been raving about doesn?t show up. The only options I have are Swiftkey 3 and the Google Voice. I tried disabling Swiftkey 3 AND the Google voice, and I just end up with no keyboard.

  • My phone seems to heat up slightly after using it. It cools down as soon as the screen shuts off, but its annoying in the hot summer heat to have a warm phone. It also likely contributes to battery drain (I assume). Do you think Google Now contributes to this? (I have Now on, but the GPS shut off)

The keyboard issue in and of itself is not a big deal. I simply downloaded the ported Jelly Bean keyboard from Play and viola! But the point is something likely went wrong when I flashed the official update onto my phone. I?m not even sure the ported (Beta) version is the ?perfect Jelly Bean? version, since it was modified for ICS. It also begs the question, are there other issues I haven?t noticed that could cause problems in the future.

I?m thinking of re-flashing Jelly Bean onto my phone ie: booting into CWM, and "install zip from sdcard" again? is that a stupid idea? Will it brick my phone? Will I lose everything?

My preference is definitely to NOT do a factory reset, if I can avoid it.

Anyone have a stand alone t9 dialer to flash? Really don't want to flash 2 gapps.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean.... Whud UP!

Isn't there one on Jakes rw Page? Might not be updated for 3.4

Seiga , there's a t9 mod for jelbel I believe. In the second post at rw.

Kenyam : follow dmmarcks I structions in the op of this thread. Dunno what you followed but it sounds like an odd process.

Since you have root, you should be able to boot in recovery, wipe everything, and flash a regular jb ROM and gapps.

Just do what the op here says, and make sure you download a ROM and that its not corrupted. I didn't look at the link you provided so I dunno what ROM you think you flashed before.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure you cleared your cache/dalvik and formatted system to try to get a cleaner install, even without wiping data/factory reset.

If that doesn't work, I'd start looking for a "custom" 4.1.1 rom that's close to stock. They have all of the bugs ironed out (mostly).

That happened with my Gapps so deleted them and started to download over, a few seconds is not right.

Thanks for the advice. So just to clarify (trying not to sound like the noob that I am), after clearing cache, I can simply reflash the same ROM (that's the XDA folks seem to think is the official incremental ROM)?

I'm asking because the instructions are very clear that I needed to be on Yakju 4.04 (with specific basebands and specific build number), in order to upgrade to Jelly Bean yakju. Since I'm now on JB, wouldnt trying to flash the same ROM I already have on my system mess things up?

If this fails, I'll start looking for a custom ROM.

FYI: I have an unlocked boot loader, but no root access...

Let me take a look at it. At this rate, I honestly think it'd be a bit safer just to find a custom rom. You don't need to be rooted to flash it; it'll be rooted itself.
