[Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderbolt

I doubt its the ROM.... if anything, those cheap headphones could have caused some damage. I learned the hardway when I had to replace my phone due to a cheap charger I bought off of ebay.

Edit: you might want to also check the threads for mic problems with that ROM. I don't remember off hand if that rom was having any bugs like that... I never had any problems that I can remember. Its been a while since I've used that rom.
Thanks for the reply. Quick up date. I tried to flash a new rom using rom manager and i screwed my self. After i rebooted i was stuck on the loading screen and couldnt get out. I went into hboot and tried to update through there and it would still leave me stuck at the htc loading screen. Someone suggested i might still have a radio somewhere on my sd card so went into my sd card and deleted the pg0img file and i was able to go back to one of my recoveries. Problem is now i dont have a radio and get no serivce. Help! Im thinkIng about flashing remix 1.8 and mr2 but dont really kno how get my service back. I have 1.8 downloaded and ready to go but dont really kno too much about rAdios. Is there a li k u can give me to dl the right radio? At this point i just want my Phone to work and dont mind the mic issue. Please help!!!!

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

You shouldn't be flashing ROMS through ROM Manager. Only use it to flash clockworkmod recovery, and install ROMS/kernels through that as this guide outlines.

Here is the Mr2 radio that will work with 1.8

MR2 OTA radio, PASSED 1.170.605.0, 1.39.00.0627r, works with MR2, GB, or Hybrid roms (bamf 1.8.6+) http://www.multiupload.com/PCGIPX6C0E MD5 - EB806E7F0EAF28F1A2C7000E24B5134A

See Post #3 in the op on how to flash radio files

.......And make sure you remove the pg05img.zip off the root of the sd card when you are finished so this doesn't happen to you again.

Any reason you're not upgrading to Gingerbread and the newer radios?

Thanks! are there any benefits in upgrading to Gingerbread? how do i upgrade and what rom / radio would you recommend?

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

No benefits at all. ;) /sarcasm

You have to decide first what kind of GB ROM you want. Stock Sense 2.1, 3.0, or even 3.5. AOSP (Pure Gingerbread) Or even a combination of both. If you're coming from a BAMF ROM, the latest Forever ROM is awesome.

Here's the radio you need: MR3 GB radio from 2.11.605.3, 1.48.00.906w_1, 0.01.78.0906w_2

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

I just installed CyanogenMod 7.1.1 and seems to be working right but I can't get GPS location. There is anything that I'm missing?

You really should have posted this on the CM7 thread.

It's a known issue with all AOSP ROMs.... make a backup using Recovery, then flash any Sense ROM, start Navigation app and get a GPS lock driving directions somewhere, leave it open, go into Recovery, make a backup if you want one, then reload your backup of CM7... your GPS will work.

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

Thanks for the info. Sort of new with all this. I was using Virus from Synergy and decided to give a try to CM7. Will try that... Where is the CM7 thread?

I backed up my rooted gb stock setup with a nandroid from rom manager and the next day a nandroid from cwm. When I looked in the backup folder I saw each is saved with the date as a title in its own folder. When I restore do I need to know the specific file in the folder to choose or merely the date (name of the subfolder)

Doesn't matter. As long as you know which one is which. You can rename them if its easier... Thats what I do.

Trying the free version of my backup. When I back up data I was hoping all email and gmail data could be backed up. I saw no choice for that. Of all the data I find that the biggest pita to set up from scratch.

Does this mean that every time I try a new rom I have to set up 2 gmail accts, 4 hotmail accts, and all my touchdown settings from scratch?

I really don't care about old sms, mms, call logs, etc.

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

I always like setting up my email accounts from scratch (4 accounts).. don't know why, just makes me mentally feel better.... But in Titanium you can back up your email apps.. never tried it before though.

About how long does a nandroid restore take? What should I expect to see on the screen while happening. If it goes on and on and on is it safe to battery pull? Will I be able to get back into cwm?

10-15 minutes? Depends how much is getting restored to the phone.... and No, never pull the battery while its loading. You'll end up with a half installed ROM and a phone that doesn't work. Its fixable but a pita.

On the screen... you should be in CWM Recovery and see the files being loaded onto the phone.

If I use a special kernel for a new rom but later restore to a nandroid of a previous rom will I also restore to the kernal of the previous rom? In other words is the kernel saved and restored as part of a nandroid?

Yes, you will be restoring the kernel you had when you made your backup.
