[Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderbolt

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

I must be missing a step. I followed all the instructions on installing a new ROM and after I installed LTB 2.3 and the short setup questions it asks, I do not see any of my installed apps. Do I manually have to restore all my purchased apps and contacts?
If so, I can't use any apps (like Titannium Backup or ROM Manager) that I had installed to do that because they are not there.
Also, can't get to app market because I have to yet install the required Radio. Also, I connect usb cable but I don't see my SD Card and do not find "Connect To PC" in the Settings.

Thanks anyone

You need radio connectivity to have Google replace your apps (in accounts and sync docs must be selected as well), same goes for titanium backup - you need the app back before you can restore stuff.
So you'll need to get that radio on your SD card, try putting your card in a card reader, or in am old phone, or try a different usb cable or usb slot.

It depends if you want a sense rom or an aosp (android open source project) rom -

If you like sense, many use das bamf roms, and you could choose between bamf 1.8.6 (froyo with Updated radio) or bamf 2.1 (gingerbread with updated radio) - these are both very stable.

For aosp roms, liquid thunderbread is probably the most stable and popular around here. Also runs with the updated radio.

This thread has info on how to install radios and roms, and you can check out the threads for the bamf roms and thunderbread rom to get some feedback.

Re: Installing Radios

Installing Radios:
1) Download the radio file
2) If not already done... rename the file to PG05IMG (pg zero five img).
3) Place the PG05IMG.zip on the root of the phones SD Card (don't place it in any sub-folders)
4) Power your phone into hboot/bootloader.. (turn the phone off.. turn the phone back on by holding the power button and the volume down button at the same time until your phone starts up in hboot/bootloader).
5) You will be asked if you would like to install the PG05IMGzip.. choose YES with the volume up button.
6) The phone will take over from there and begin to unload the PG05IMG.zip onto your phone.
7) When completed you will be asked to reboot the phone.. choose YES.
8) You're done.

You can check that the new radio installed by going to Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Info > Baseband Version (the numbers should match with the radio version that you just installed)
Example:
The Latest CDMA/LTE Radio Combo for Froyo:
CDMA Radio Version: 1.16.00.0402w_1
LTE Radio Version: 1.13.605.7

The Latest CDMA/LTE Radio Combo for Gingerbread (MR2.5):
CDMA Radio Version: 1.39.00.0528w
LTE Radio Version: 0.01.69.0602w_1

* delete or move the PG05IMG.zip from the root of the SD Card. (If not, you can run into some problems if you ever need to get to Recovery from hboot/bootloader) *

Common F&Q:
Do I install the radio through ROM Manager/ClockworkMod Recovery? No, radios need to be installed from HBOOT/Bootloader.
Will the MR2/MR2.5 radio work with Froyo ROMs? No, they are only compatible with Gingerbread ROMs or CyanogenMod 7 ROM (Reason: The leaked radio for the new Froyo OTA uses the new RIL, which was previously incorporated into the GB leak but not in the older Froyo releases. Thus, it works on the current GB roms but not on Froyo roms.)
If I'm using a Gingerbread ROM with one of the MR2 radios and decide to go back to a Froyo ROM, do I need to change the radio also? Yes, if you decide to go back to a Froyo ROM, you will need to change the radio back also, it will not automatically get wiped from changing ROMs. (see the Obligatory Thunderbolt Radio thread for compatible Froyo radios)
does this radio 2.5 work for non root.

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

So I finally sacked up and rooted my phone, flashed a new ROM(Gingeritis 3D) and radio.
Everything is working fine except the lack of 4G. After reading some other posts, they mentioned to check the md5 on my phone vs what the dev provided and they don't match. But no one else mentions how to fix this.

So, how do I fix this?
Do I have to wipe the phone and reflash the ROM?
Thanks

The md5 did not match for which - the rom or the radio?

Also, some radios work well on some phones but poorly on others. There are currently 4 MR2+ radios - the official mr2, the originally leaked mr2, the leaked mr2.5, and chingy's gb leak radio. You could download one or more of those and give them a try, but make sure the md5's match up to what's posted.

If it's just a radio change, you don't need to wipe anything - you just need to flash the new radio in hboot then rename or delete the PG05IMG.zip file when you are thru.

I wasn't doing it properly. Turns out I do have the correct md5 for both the rom and radio(chingy gb leak). I'll have to head over to his forum and figure out why no 4G. Thanks.

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

After I flashed the clockwork mod when i hit boot into recovery mode it just takes me to the regular bootloader so i can't install ROMS or backup anything. Do you know a solution to this? :-\

What do you mean by regular bootloader... Is there an option when you get into hboot/bootloader that says "recovery"? What exactly is happening when you boot into hboot?

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

It goes to the white screen with the androids on the bottom for fastboot, reboot, power down and recovery, if i go to h boot it says no wrong image etc. and then goes back to the same screen. The black screen you show in the tutorial never comes up for me. When i hit "recovery" it just flashes the HTC symbol and goes back to the fastboot screen.

Okay.. the option you want is "recovery". It sounds like ClockworkMod was never installed. In ROM Manager.. the first option is to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.. without that you can't do anything.
If you already flashed it and it still isn't working...
You can try re-installing ROM Manager and flashing CWM Recovery again
Or.. in ROM Manager, the last option is "all clockworkmod recoveries"... try flashing a different version.

Before anything though... don't use the power + volume down method for the first time...first reboot the phone and then try using the option in ROM Manager first and see if it works "Reboot into recovery".. its the second option in the app.
Everything should work fine once you try the above.. let me know if you get it working or need any other help.

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

I tried all the above it seems no matter what it keeps going to the white screen for factory reset and all the other regular options. I tried older clockmod versions and it even says congrats you flashed clock mod etc. etc. but it never reboots into that recovery mode. It's making me want to just unroot my phone sadly cause i can't install new Roms.

Re: [Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderb

Get rid of all traces of it. Uninstall the app.. delete the CWM Recovery folder from the SD Card and try it again in this order.
Download app
Flash CWM Recovery from app
Reboot phone
Go back into app and Reboot into Recovery.

First.. try rebooting your phone and make sure your battery door is fully attached.. Second, what ROM are you using? What radio are you using? You most likely have a radio that is not compatible with the ROM which will cause the phone to lose service.
