[Guide] Installing Swype Beta on HTC Inspire 4G

I am now getting the trial period ended pop up. I have been using it perfectly for a month.

What happened?

The trial period ended popup appears to be what happens when the Swype installer attempts to auto-update and is blocked by the AT&T security routines on the phone. To get around this (assuming your particular Beta version isn't actually expired) is this:

1)Completely uninstall Swype and the Swype installer from your Inspire 4G.

2)Go to the AC-SWM folder on your computer and delete any .apk files you find there.

3)On your phone, open up the Beta download email you originally got from Swype and hit the download link again. The newest version of the Swype installer will download.

4)Make a note of the exact filename that is downloaded to your phone by pulling down the notification shade when the download completes. Chances are if you are updating this way, the filename will be different than the first time you installed Swype. This is important.

5)Once the installer downloads, use the steps in the original post to reinstall the updated installer to your phone. Be sure to use the new filename, if you don't you'll most likely pull and sideload the old installer and get stuck.

6)Finish the instructions in the original post to complete the package installation and Swype setup.

7)Enjoy!

Has anyone thought of making a video of their installation procedures? I'm sorry, but I'm sure there are thousands of others that would benefit greatly to visuals and speech, as apposed to typed instructions. While I do understand the instructions, it would be helpful to hear a voice and visually see it being done all at the same time. That would help, tremendously for the noobs, including myself.

Cheers.

Excellent guide! I had no problems at all. I've had the Aria for three months now and missed having Swype, but I didn't want to root my phone. This is the first method I've found that actually works. Thanks!

I use ultra keyboard now. I actually like how you can slide and peck on both Ultra keyboard and slideit.

It kinda annoyed me that you couldn't on swype. I will probably not go back.

Not working for my htc inspire :/

You properly installed the side load machine to the C: drive?

Im having saving problem. When I download the "source file" its different now. Im also stuck on 11 again. I had to get a new phone (inspire 4g) and object doesnt exist. HELP

Even after sideloading, still won't let me download swype

I've now sideloaded swype onto my Inspire, but i still get the pop up that says "For security, your phone is set to block installation of applications not obtained from Android Market."

When I hit "Cancel" like you said, it just takes me back to the download screen and does nothing.

I've successfully sideloaded other apps, so not sure what I'm doing wrong...please help! I'm going mad over here! Thanks.

Just wanted to add my name to the people who managed this with few issues.

The only tip I'd like to add for people having trouble is this: When you get to step 4 and it says "then type: "cd C:\AC-SWM"," do this

type cd

Go to the place on your computer where you have the Sideload Wonder Machine installed (this ought to be Computer --> C drive). You should be able to see a folder that says something about SWM (mine is actually "AC-SWM-v10," which is what caused me issues initially).

Drag the folder into the command prompt window. This ought to paste the directory for the folder right into the window, so you don't have to risk typing it wrong.

Hit enter

This solved an issue for me.

ok can anyone point me to where to get the new swype.apk? I downloaded the new SWM and well im getting the error that the object, in this case, line 11 doesnt exist when i get there. Also cant select a language

Got this on the first try. Very cool. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get this on my Mac, but it worked out well.

Thanks for the directions. It was clear.
