Hm, okay so we still don't know if you can go with SC even if un-rooted or if we need rustle up Odin on a PC and go all the way back for the update since Hook33 was already with a official rom.

So Braydon, should we sit tight and see what you come up with?

Rooting Fascinate - Mac

Cory Streater prepared a great walk through on this but the link is no longer valid (Rooting Using a Mac (Video Tutorial))

The rooting files are no longer available nor the walk through.

I tried searching all over the forums but could not find any similar walk throughs.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Thanks

Rooting FROYO on a Mac

I hope to be more active in the forums once I root my device and have more fun with it, but I had a few questions first.

1) I updated to FROYO today, does that affect what instructions I should use rooting my phone? Are there more updated software I should be using?

2) I am using a MAC, so should I just use the instructions in the sticky? I already have Froyo, so does that change anything?

I have been waiting for the new update to root the phone because there is certainly plenty of bloatware courtesy of Verizon, so any help you can provide would be great. I know these posts get old and annoying, but most instructions I have found either do not have it broken down in easy terms, or are for PC.

Thanks for your help!

I'm having trouble installing redrecovery. I get the terminal message:

"/data/local/redbend_ua: not found"

Is this because I didn't push that file? Am I supposed to?

Did I mess up a previous step? Rooting was successful. Superuser is installed so I'm assuming that's the case.

Any help would be appreciated!

Oops: same problem just a few posts above. I apologize for the redundancy!

OK...this forum has been great for a newbie...I am tech savy on a Mac, but this root process has been hell...so this has been great...

I got the official Froyo update via Verizon airways...
I follow posts 2 and 3, but when I get to four, I am having trouble. I receive this error:

[Macintosh-0016cb919dbc:~/Desktop/1-click-clockworkmod-v1.1/Files] bgiovine% /Users/bgiovine/Desktop/1-click-clockworkmod-v1.1/Files/cwm.sh
Starting Red Recovery installation...
3117 KB/s (6253080 bytes in 1.958s)
/data/local/redbend_ua: not found
[Macintosh-0016cb919dbc:~/Desktop/1-click-clockworkmod-v1.1/Files] bgiovine%

My specs are:

HV: 1500.04
Mod: sch-I500
FW: 2.2.1
Kernal: 2.6.32.9

I am just looking to get to a spot where I can remove the bloatware and tinker a bit...Superuser appears on my app list and Rom Manager shows I have CMR 3.0.0.8

Am I on the right track or am I still not getting this root thing whatsoever...

As per my post above yours, I'm dealing with the exact same problem. With the root access you have, you can definitely remove bloatware and tinker with performance settings.

Can anyone provide any help with the

"/data/local/redbend_ua: not found"

error that several people have been getting? Are we not pushing the redbend file? In the OP, there are no directions to push this.

Any help would be appreciated!

Worked well for 2.2.1 (EB03)

I used this on my brand new Verizon Fascinate. Did the OTA update to 2.2.1 (EB03) and installed the Intel Mac version of the Android SDK. With this, I had adb shell acces to thephone. I then used 1-click-pushtosd-v1.1 and 1-click-root-v1.1 as directed.

I had to run the root.app twice. The first time it copied all the files, failed to move busybox and su, but installed superuser. The second time, it worked but threw a FAILED message because superuser.apk already existed. I rebooted the phone manually and everything works fine.

I have a macbook pro with a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I want to get windows for my mac so that I can run odin. I have a few questions and I would appreciate any input.

1. Is either 64 bit or 32 bit any better for running odin or does it not matter?

2. I have read that you will run into usb connection issues in odin if you run windows through anything other than bootcamp. Can anyone verify this?

1) I run 64 bit on my PC and 32 on my Mac. Haven't noticed any differences.

2) Correct, I've tried may methods and so far only works when booted directly into windows.

Question for anyone with the answer:

If I am in the terminal screen on a MAC and I want to remove the files SU and Busybox located in system/xbin. What commands do I need to enter?

Thanks, in advance!
