That didnt work. I am still having the same issue. It goes through it all but when the phone resets, it just resets into the recovery.

And the sd card it is still not mounting.

Steps 1-8: Okay
Step 9: Upgrade Error / WParam: 100 / LParam: 84
Step 10: Okay
Step 11: "reindeer battery" = "reinsert battery"?
Step 12: Okay

Then it ends up at:

Phone: CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.5
KDZ_FW_UPD: Step : Phone Reset(DLL Cmd)

On phone I "wipe data/factory reset" and "reboot system now" and I get to:

Phone: CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.5
KDZ_FW_UPD: Upgrade Error / WParam: 100 / LParam: 92

And phone keeps rebooting into recovery.

I have done the steps 10+ times both with and without the battery and either the above happens or it gets stuck on repeating "Step : Flash Burning(SDRAM to FLASH)".

I updated to VM670ZV9 without thinking about waiting for it to be road tested then rooted as per (http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...-security-update-now-rooted-thanks-jcase.html). I wanted to get rid of crumbs of things I installed/uninstalled and without thinking (once again) I did the Menu / Settings / Privacy / Factory Data Reset. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated, I can't afford a new phone and losing my grandfathered plan! Any other information you need?

Did you try to start from emergency mode??? That would help if you haven't tried already...

Yeah, as per the OP Unbrick Directions. I followed those directions many times (and any adjustments discussed in the comments since OP) and I just keep getting bootloop into CWM-based Recovery.

I think your battery is dead, anyways try this: http://androidforums.com/showthread.php?p=2904142 will fix your boot loop...

Battery seems alright, Tried that, but phone outputs as follows:

-- Installing: /sdcard/flash_image.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
Installation aborted.

In the Root instructions followed previously (http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...-security-update-now-rooted-thanks-jcase.html), it talks about "Prevent Recovery Re-Write". Is there something I need to do to enable the Xionia installation?

Flash the flashable xionia zip (one may not exist, if that's the case I'll make one) then hit reboot recovery.

Or is there a better method?

You don't have to apply that update. It's actually been recommended by virgin not to now because a lot of people have reported it killing their data speeds. I applied it on mine and ended up going back to zv5 I had on it originally...but if you wanted to try it, then you need to apply the update first, then root. Otherwise you can just skip it and go ahead and root.

If you are wanting to root and install a custom rom, and you are not going to upgrade to zv9, all you need to do is root and flash the recovery. If you truly restore your phone to stock that is also going to mean putting a stock recovery back on the phone which will also unroot. Unless you don't want root or you don't want a custom rom, restoring to factory first is just causing you to do everything twice, and there is really no benefit to that, and its also unnecessary. So basically just follow that first guide and then put whatever rom you want on the phone. Just skip the part about trying to restore stock...like I said, it is not a necessary step, and its kind of a waste of time in this instance. I don't know which baseband you have on the phone now, but gingerbreak May not work, in which case you will need a pc and superoneclick.

No, you need Gingerbreak. You are running ZV5. Superoneclick will only work with ZV4. If you want a stock rom, I would actually suggest finding the third stock version. It's exactly what came with the phone, but minus all the bloatware and other unnecessary items. That's probably your best bet. Yeah for the recovery you really can't get any easier than that. The rom I'll dig up for you. Might take a few, but I'll get it

Kdz? What are you using that for exactly? Since you aren't doing an upgrade or a restoration, you don't need it. Do you have a custom recovery? If you don't just get one on the phone before you worry about the rom and you won't even need to mess anything else. You'll be able to install the rom using the recovery
