Has Anyone downloaded 2.3.20?

Re: Haptic Feedback

i was really hoping for the haptic feedback bug to be fixed.

Same here. Apparently it's more important for verizon to get vz navigator on there so they can bleed us for more money than it is for them to fix known issues. The haptic feedback issue is so important since you can't escape it. No matter what you are doing on the phone, hit a soft key and "bzzzzz." This is my first android phone (D2) and I must say...starting to wonder if HTC would have been the better choice. Please fix this verizon/moto/whomever.

While I fully agree they need to fix this, cause it's annoying and only serves to additionally drain battery life, is it really such a big issue to make you change phones? Not for me. :-)

Seems like someone asked earlier if this would break root. I applied the update and lost root. Today I ran unroot and then rerooted and I was good to go.

finally got it

I never got prompted, had to check manually but i finally got the update. Will let you know if it fixes the errors I had with facebook and contacts taking 30 seconds to display information.

So I havent seen any battery life improvement since the update. I wonder just how much improvement they supposedly did, like what 2%? Lol.

What did you expect, a 50% improvement? It's a minor software update, not a hardware replacement.

It's probably going to depend a lot upon how you use the phone. If you use the features that they tweaked to be more power efficient then you'll see an improvement. If not, then you probably won't see much change. It's not like the D2 battery life was bad to begin with.

Hmm, you're rather rude aren't you? No I didn't expect anywhere near 50% improvement. But having my battery *still* drop 10% after each usage (say - check email, hit a website or two and make ONE phone call... all in all about 10 minutes of usage) I'd hoped it would be better than this. If you'd re-read my post you can see I clearly said I haven't seen ANY improvement whatsoever on battery life. And for the record I run it with NO social networking, no email push, background sync turned off, wifi and bluetooth off, etc.

If you use the features that they tweaked to be more power efficient then you'll see an improvement.

Biggest improvement I've found is turning off background data sync. Even though I have nothing updating and pushing down it still saves battery life.

This comment is laughable. The D2 battery life is the top #1 complaint of this phone and I personally have never had a cellphone drain battery ever in my life as fast as this phone.

yes the update fixed the facebook statues covering phone numbers in contacts and fixed contacts taking 30 to show information. I gotta say Droid issues are fixed a lot faster then palm pre plus issues but palm pre OS is still easier to use then Droid and Iphone.

i got it too in pa. the only thing i disllike is the position of the unlock swiper. its higher than before. the call one is the same but the unlock is higher.

Ha, I was scratching my head about that. I've only had my phone 8 days so today I was wondering about the unlock position. Thanks for confirming that. I don't find it to be an issue though.

Actually, according to Laptop magazine the Droid 2 has the 3rd best battery life.

DX 7:42
Dell Streak: 7:35
D2: 7:07
Average: 5:55
Samsung Epic: 5:34
HTC EVO 4G: 5:27
Samsung Vibrant: 4:44
Samsung Captivate 4:43
HTC Incredible: 4:33

That still doesn't dispute the fact that the most common complaint of the D2 is the battery life in nearly every review I've read. I don't have that magazine, do they mention their test parameters? Depending on how they tested makes a huge difference on the results. When I use my phone for internet or app use the battery drains quite fast. When it's just standing by the battery lasts long however. Btw, aren't those all Droid based phones?

I went from the sprint htc hero (and before that I had the palm pre) to the droid 2 and I have to say the D2 has great battery life as far as touchscreen phones are concerned. If you're standards are blackberry battery life then you will be disappointed with the battery life of any touchscreen. With the D2 on a typical workday I usually unplug around 7:20am and I can make it to about 8 or 9pm before I start seeing red on the battery indicator. Although I do plug in on the drive home from work for about half an hour. If I go out after work and don't have enough time to add some juice then my phone won't make it through the day. Such is the life of touchscreen phones. Still, as far as touchscreens the D2 is really good, I don't care what other reviews say. I've had the phone since it's release on Aug. 12th and this pattern has been consistent and I'm a pretty heavy user.

Certain things I do to conserve battery are:
-I don't use live wallpapers.
-I don't use certain widgets that are always updating.
-I do use Launcher Pro's Facebook widget but I have it refresh every 3 hours.
-I keep my brightness at 30%.
-I used to not have my facebook synced (under my accounts) but recently turned it back on since I just downloaded the latest update which claims to have improved battery life.

Has anyone else noticed improvement in battery life since the update?

Interesting. Can you please provide links to where you found unroot and reroot? I lost root also and I'm upset that I can't tether or take screen shots anymore.

Heh, this is how we got into this battery life debate which is something I don't really care to argue to be honest. I made a comment that I haven't seen any difference in battery life since the update. No I didn't expect a big difference, but I haven't seen any difference at all.

How We Tested

The test itself is fairly simple. Avram, our tireless Web director, modified the Notebook batteries provide power to the system whenever it?s unplugged.
Learn MoreLAPTOP Battery Test we use for notebooks, and created an Android App that does much the same thing: It opens the phone?s Web browser to one of 60 popular Web sites, remains there for 60 seconds, closes the browser, then reopens the browser to next Web site on the list. It does so until the phone?s battery dies, all while recording the time elapsed.

Here?s how we set up the phones before we tested them:

1. First, we download My Settings and Advanced Task Killer, two free apps that are useful regardless.
2. Then, we open My Settings, and do the following:
3. Turn screen brightness to 40%, and turn off auto brightness.
4. Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS location, cell location, and auto sync.
5. Deactivate screen timeout; that is, make sure the screen stays on indefinitely.
6. In the Web browser, we turn off Flash support and plug-ins.
7. We placed the phone in an area that was receiving at least 4 bars of service.

I wouldn't consider that a very reasonable test with all the things that were turned off. The phone most commonly is not used that way. I understand the reasoning though, to create a fair comparison between devices, it's just not indicative of real world battery life. Has this test been run with the iPhone as well?
