Has Anyone downloaded 2.3.20?

I wouldn't consider that a very reasonable test with all the things that were turned off. The phone most commonly is not used that way. I understand the reasoning though, to create a fair comparison between devices, it's just not indicative of real world battery life. Has this test been run with the iPhone as well?

You can't do a stress test trying to emulate real world. Even when they stress test corporate machines they have to run bench mark tests by creating programs to push the server resources to the limit.

I don't know if it was done on the iPhone.

You're getting off base here. We're not even talking about benchmarks. My point was that I said the battery life is poor and your response was to quote laptop mags test that showed it faired well against other Droids in the lineup. That may be true, but it does not directly translate to "The D2 has great battery life" in real world usage because of all the things they disabled. It drains noticably faster than my iPhone 3G did.

Anyhow, this is the last I'm posting in regard to the D2's battery life. For those that don't agree with me just take it as my opinion. I'd rather see the thread back on topic.

Not off base, you were saying the test isn't real world, I was explaining to you that real world stress tests aren't even performed on Unix servers in the corporate world, that's just not how it's done.

The D2 would drain the battery faster than your iphone because the iphone doesn't have true multitasking.

I downloaded the OTA yesterday and as my own personal battery life test after the update was done I did a fresh factory reset and reinstalled all my stuff and started monitoring the battery. So far I'm at 30hrs 55 minutes, and I still have 40% of my battery left. Granted I'm not a power user, but my Samsung Fascinate that I owned couldn't get me through the day with the same usage on my Droid 2.

I got the Droid 2 on release and have been very satisfied with the battery life, I checked for the 2.3.20 update yesterday and installed it. I did lose Root, which I expected. I have been using the device fairly heavy today and I'm at 80% battery, that includes me re-rooting my device again and rebooting it afterward. I have no complaints at all...

Hmm, you're rather rude aren't you? No I didn't expect anywhere near 50% improvement. But having my battery *still* drop 10% after each usage (say - check email, hit a website or two and make ONE phone call... all in all about 10 minutes of usage) I'd hoped it would be better than this.

Its not dropping an entire 10%. Its just dropping below 100.

My personal experience with the Droid 2's battery life has been very positive. and I have taken no precautions whatsoever to preserve the battery. I even keep a Weatherbug widget on my homescreen.

Ah that's good to know. I was under the impression it only hit 90% when it went below 91%. Thanks.

Re: Haptic

While I fully agree they need to fix this, cause it's annoying and only serves to additionally drain battery life, is it really such a big issue to make you change phones? Not for me. :-)
Rev.

Yes, it is for me. I suppose it is subjective. But in my case, yes. The fact that Verizon would sooner add an app (navigator) that is intended to put more money in VZW's pocket than fix a phone bug is an indicator that bottom line (i.e. $$$$) is more important than fixing problems. Is the code fix required to fix this issue really so complicated? Part of the update was to improve battery life. So, in that regard, wouldn't fixing the haptic feedback issue further improve battery life. Converting stored energy (electrons in the battery) into energy of motion (vibration) is a HUGE energy conversion issue that drains battery life. So, my mistake for not testing the phone in person before purchasing. In the future I will play with the phone at a store before buying. And if I can't disable the haptic feedback, then that is an automatic DON'T BUY. Just a matter of preference though I guess. Does anyone honestly find haptic feedback useful? I am not Hellen Keller, I do not need my phone to vibrate to let me know I just pushed a button. I have functional eyes for a reason. Not trying to hate too much. I like the D2.... with this exception.

Naw, it doesn't. I don't know the exact algorithm, but I'm sure you've noticed it takes much longer to reach 80 than it does to reach 90.

I'm not sure it was a bug, per se. It may (for better or worse) been intended to work that way. Anyway, I installed some the framework from a Droid X theme just for ****s and giggles one day, and it practically killed the feedback from the soft buttons. I use the word "practically" because there was still a small amount of buzz left. I found it irritating not having the feedback, since I pretty much always blind press my buttons, and went and changed my phone back promptly.

So that's at least one person who is fine with the setup.

So I downloaded 2.3 and realized they added some new ringtones/notifications and all the new ones are duplicated on my ringtone/notification list when I go to choose a new tone. So I went into my files and deleted them, got rid of the duplicates and now when I choose the new ringtones they are the default classic phone ring noise and it says unknown tone. How do I get them back now!!! can someone maybe attach them for me?

Crazy question...

This update that we got OTA was 2.3.20. Gingerbread is supposed/rumored to be 2.3. Do we now have Gingerbread, or are the rumors of the 2.3 version numbers wrong?

No it is not Gingerbread. We received system version 2.3. It's still Android version 2.2. Basically it's just an updated version of Android 2.2. Android version 2.3 is rumored to be Gingerbread. Check your about phone screen and look at the titles "system version" and "android version" and you'll see what I'm referring to. Hope this helps clarify.

*EDIT* Just to help further clarify. It's like having Windows Vista and receiving a system update. It's only a system update and doesn't upgrade you to Windows 7. (I know bad example but makes it easier to understand)

I have the Droid r2d2, & I live in NYC. I have checking for the update since it was announced, still nothing. Is this because I have the r2? I have not rooted my phone so i wouldn't have any issues with it bricking my phone. Did I spend more money to get screwed over?

The r2 runs a different firmware so you won't get this but an update to out with the r2 theme

Ever since I downloaded this update my phone has been freezing, crashing and the default internet browser wont scroll unless I 'double touch' zoom into the page.... What gives?

do a factory reset. it will reinstall the new ROM and all should run well. As for me, i was all about FISSION a few weeks ago, now with the 2.3.20 update i'm happy with stock again. the contacts app is working much smoother and that pesky numbers hidden by the facebook status bug was fixed.

Same here! Ever since I downloaded my main screen goes BLACK and will not go on. After a few times of hitting my power button to try and wake up the screen, or even slide my phone up and down to activated the screen, it starts to REBOOT! WHAT THE HELL!
