Re: Has Google Stated If They Will Compensate Play Store Pre-orde
How can the retail customers be up in arms? They have their Nexus 7s. The problem I have is we would love to vent together as Play Store pre-order customers but Root Brain and the rest of them have to add their 2 cents in even though, either a.) they already have their units, or b.) they have no plans of buying a Nexus 7.
So I apologize for my occasional lashing outs but try your best to keep them out of posting on a thread clearly meant for nothing but venting.
I don't think he was referring to the retail customers when he said that. More to the people who are up in arms over their Pre-orders, Google's lack of communication, etc.. and the people who are defending Google regardless of whether or not they have pre-ordered.
Personally I preordered on the 2nd and I got my email late on Friday like many others and my package started actually moving yesterday. Am I upset that people have been able to run out and just buy these tablets before my Pre-ordered one has got to me? Not really. Am I upset at Google over this apparent shipping fiasco. No, more like disappointed. Do I think Google owes me anything over this. Nope, because regardless of anything else they met their obligation of delivering the tablet in "two to three weeks" like they stated. That's what I agreed to when I submitted my Pre-order and that is what they are delivering.
For me it would have been nice to be in the very first group of folks to get it, it's really not that serious. Although because of this incident there is a good chance that I will not be pre-ordering anything else from Google unless they seriously improve their pre-ordering strategy. The only thing that is really upsetting to me is their outright lack of communication about the whole situation. Next time Google needs to set a firm release date upfront. Then meet it. And if you don't, explain why. Oh and if a Brick & Mortar store tries to release early, cut them off completely, or have some kind of contract in place where they will have a stiff penalty for breaking the release date.
Seriously Google missed out on a huge publicity opportunity by not having an actual release date. I can almost promise if there had been a solid release date and a limited number of retailers selling these there would have been lines of people waiting to get one and therefore tons of free publicity about these tablets. But with this wishy-washy soft release there is no obvious drive to get one of these... unless you lurk on Android message boards. There are tons of people buying these and looking for them but it's not obvious to the casual observer. And it should not be the early adopters and tech geeks like us that you want to market this to, it is John Q Public, but he doesn't read blogs or stream the IO conference so he has no idea what a Nexus is. But you can sure enough bet that if he saw a line of people waiting to get one you would have his attention.
But at the end of the day (literally) I will have my tablet and most if not all B&Ms are going to be sold out probably until next month and even new GP orders will probably still not ship for at least a couple weeks. So even though I will not have been the first to get one, for at least a month or so I will be one of the few who actually has one.
