Have You Gotten Jelly Bean 4.3? Thread

If the guy in charge of Android says you shouldn't do it but that's not enough reason for you, then who am I to convince you? :)

If you follow my point though, you could have accomplished the same thing just hitting the Check For Updates button. You didn't pull the update any faster, you just made the phone check for it and happened to get it pushed anyway, which is what hitting that button does, but doing it the way you did also screws up your account and other settings so you had to sign out, sign in, etc.

It is not just coincidence that many people that had been trying the past few days by hitting the "check now" button suddenly had luck when using this method. It is pushing the ota to your phone faster. I am not sure how, but just ask the people that have tried. I searched all over the internet to see if this method would harm your device and the consensus is no. Though it is not recommended because you will have to remove your Google account and resign in and if you don't have some data backed up it will be lost. So of you have everything synced and backed up, then I don't see the harm.

Ok, I did the clear data play services thong, but I got some weird error message once the update installed. Saying unknown user message or something like that. It then kept pinging this notification. Then my apps couldn't update in the store. I removed my google account and resubmitted it, and the app updated fine after that.

But is there any chance I messed something up in my phone by doing this? See, I usually am afraid to do stuff like that because I'm afraid of permanent damaging my phone.

Man, now I'm all paranoid and am thinking of factory resetting my phone :(

No don't stress, I'm sure you're ok.

I did a lot of checking and the consensus seems to be that if anything you would have lost some data if you did not have things backed up to your Google account. If after you resigned in nothing is missing no other 'harm' should be done.

I finally lost patience and sideloaded the update by following the directions here, and here.

With respect to the clearing framework method, I doubt very much that it actually pushes the update to your phone faster. It is more likely just a coincidence that you did the third or fourth (or thirteenth) time checking when your phone would have gotten the update anyway. That people who have been pushing the "check update" button to no avail are now having success with this method is more likely a result of the time that passed. A controlled experiment would randomly assign several N4 devices to check by the "check now button," an equal number to the "framework" method - these two methods need to be applied at the exact same times on these phones, and an equal number of phones with which no effort is made to check for updates (your control variable). Only if one of these groups of phones show a statistically significant higher percentage updating within the same time frame can you say that such given method is probably the proximate cause of the update. Otherwise, hard as it is to believe, coincidence is the likely possibility.

I wouldn't recommend this method, in any case, because of the bugs it seems to cause as documented by folks in this thread.

Still no update on my Nexus 10. I wonder how long you should wait till it indicates an issue. Unit is stock by the way.

I am thinking the same thing... "I wonder how long you should wait till it indicates an issue."
No update on Nexus 4, or my Nexus 10. :-\

Do you think they stopped the update due to some major issue? Because Wednesday is already a week since the roll out started.

Still nothing here in central FL. I got my Nexus 4 the week it launched on T-Mobile and my wife received hers last Wednesday from Google.

I got home last night from vacation, no OTA update. Tried again this morning, nothing. So I caved and sideloaded the update - it's working beautifully. Hoping we can take advantage of some Bluetooth LE accessories now!

I sideloaded the ota following a guide or two and everything is working fine. Aside from some little cosmetic changes, it seems almost the same. Touch sensitivity hasn't changed, it has always been very responsive, so nothing to complain about.

I have seen an improvement regarding router recognition, and that's a huge plus, the main reason that pushed me to update :)

I just got the update over the air for my Nexus 7, installing now. Still waiting on the Nexus 4 update, though. Here's my method. I hear sacrificing a unicorn can help push the update faster. Although that may just be a coincidence.

Just got the update here in the UK for my Nexus 4, so for you guys in good ol' England it won't be long!

Just got it automagically in Maryland sometime between 10 AM and this afternoon. (At work, first chance I had to check was around 3 PM). Haven't had a chance to play with it, but did confirm that the screen now says 4.3

Whew, now I can "casually" mention it to my (GS3) brother so he can wonder if/when he'll get it from his carrier ;)

I just got it at around 4:20 in Rhode Island. No sorcery was used, just the check update button. I have not used it long enough to notice a difference.

Just got the alert that it had been automatically downloaded. Haven't told it to go ahead and install yet, though. Waiting for some more feedback, but so far, it sounds promising -- as in very few problems.
