Have you gotten you 4.4 OTA?

Oh, don't 'pity' me - not afraid of jumping the queue when its necessary. And I can handle sharp sharp cutlery, too - not just wait to be spoon fed. But really, this is far from necessary. Its an upgrade (not a critical patch) to a device that isn't even my secondary bit of daily tech kit.

Meanwhile, I have done minor sideloading - for example, Flash onto my Nexus 7 (if only so I can access TV streaming websites via Firefox that have not yet built an Android app), but that was completely straightforward and done completely onboard the device.
But to entertain doing sillery-buggery multiple button pushing at just the right moment to access hidden controls and / or wipe my device harkens me back to old Palm days. Layer that with geeky access to Terminal to unpack and then install over to the device and, well...its ain't a priority.

It seems more than a pity that Google doesn't supply the OS upgrade via it's own online Google Play Store, say, along the lines of (dare I say it) Apple's iTunes or Mac App Store. Plug your Nexus into your computer, choose the OS Upgrade and let it all download and install via the Store. Google's servers permitting, this would seem to be a way they could get the OS out to their users quickly - as in as soon as it was announced and released - securely and relatively brick-free, especially if users have sometimes dodgy OTA connectivity.

For users having to wait for Google to choose when the devices should get an upgrade that they are eligible for is bad PR. And it only encourages amateurs and cowboys to do something wrong and / or inadvertently install a wrong / corrupted file.

To side-load KitKat u d/l 1 file, plug in the usb to your computer, click 3 confirm windows, and your done. As long as you start with your N7 ON then you never have to touch it once.

Noted, thanks. This seems to fly in the face of some of the instructions on sideloading the OS I've read on this site and elsewhere, including additional files that may be required, perhaps. More definitive instructions appreciated, if I was to go for it.

Currently running 4.3 build JWR66Y and I've downloaded to my Mac from the Google servers the 194.3 MB KRT16O-from-JWR66Y zip file.

Been in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas in just over 24 hours and checked for OTA in each and so far none.

This may be a stupid question, but how do they determine the order of these update rollouts? Is it by serial number? Location? What? Or is it just arbitrary? No one has ever offered a reasonable explanation that I've ever seen.

No update on my 2012 N7. I'm hoping that it will fix the horrendous lag I've been having. It takes multiple seconds from the screen to turn on after hitting the power button, and even more to respond to touch.

The million dollar question that gets asked every time this happens and no one ever has a credible answer.... :-P

I got tired of waiting and now I am flashing Kit Kat on my own....I did NOT follow the instructions posted on the home page a few days ago. Instead I followed the instructions from this forum on how to Unlock, Root and Flash Recovery. once all that was done (VERY EASY) I used the recovery to flash the Kit Kat file. The whole process took about 10-15 minutes and was FLAWLESS! Hit me up if you have any questions.

Not a stupid question but rather a very good one. However, my question is are we sure it is even rolling out? I have read many threads over several forums and I haven't seen any one claim to get KK via OTA.

Nothing yet for me. I'll probably side load this weekend if the ota does not push by then. I normally do it the day of but just didint feel like rushing this time.

I'm giving mine till friday to sideload it. I'd prefer to just get the OTA but this is taking forever.

From Manitoba, Canada:

Been hitting the "Check for updates" button twice a day since they announced the OTAs. Nothing, even with clearing cache/data for framework services. This morning I was awake early, and figured I'd just download the factory image and do it myself.

No joy. Download failed on my desktop (4 different attempts, 2 different browsers).

BTW, tablet is rooted but running stock 4.3. I was going to unroot and see if it would snag the update that way, but I didn't bother when I couldn't download the factory image anyway. I'm out of town all next week so maybe by next weekend I'll have an update waiting for me!

I'm hitting it every 5 min even though I have a nexus 4

I haven't even seen where N10 users are getting the update OTA.

Nothing yet for me either. I'm guessing it won't happen for another week or two. Despite the fact that I check it twice a day, I like to think that it doesn't really matter because my N7 works just fine. I still have to hit that damned button though.

No OTA yet in Florida for my 2012 Nexus 7. Love Kit Kat on my new Nexus 5 that now let's me leave my old N7 at home when I go to sports bars. But I want to play with ART under 4.4 on my N7 before trusting it on my new N5. I sure hope ART helps my battery on my 2012 N7.

I don't think the 2012 N7 is getting ART in the OTA rom :( devastation

I've seen the term ART in a few posts, what is that and what will I be missing? I just side loaded last night and nothing seems different. I tried loading the download I found for the Google Experience Launcher and it didn't keep my home screens nor let me add new ones. Obviously that wasn't the right one. What is the hope for this upgrade? My battery life didn't improve that I noticed and the screen response seems the same. What am I missing?
