Have you had a Black Screen of Death with your Bionic?

It has only happened to me once. I've had it since the 9th and yesterday (25th) was the first and only time that it has happened. I am using the standard battery. After I pulled the battery and got the phone turned back on, I was unable to connect to data. I had to restart the phone again before the 3G connection would work.

Okay so sorry I know it says "unrooted only" but I have had it since release date and left it unrooted for a few days and then rooted it. It's been fine for weeks and now the last two days I have had the black screen occur, only when it was in standby mode and I went to use my phone and it wouldn't turn on. I didn't vote to follow the rules but I have a standard battery.

Is this a problem? should I unroot in case I need to return to verizon?

Also interestingly after a batt pull and reboot its seems like both times there was an android market update (yesterday for google+ and today for 6 different apps/games).

Motorola is notrious for phones shutting off by themselves or not coming back on without a battery pull. Its definitely software related. Dont return ur device just wait for the software update....

I figured just as much. I started power cycling my phone after lunch, and no more phone freezes so far. I also turn off my phone when I sleep.

If Samsung had released the Bionic, we would have a stable custom ROM by now. I guess the closest thing we have is an OTA update. :(

its happened to me 3 times now. standard battery, had phone since the 9th. all three times i connect to wall socket to charge, no notification that its charging, i turn off screen, won't turn back on. i take the battery out, put it back in after about 15 secs. then turn it back on no problem. really weird.

The problem was happening pretty regular for me. I haven't had it happen for over a week now. The only change I made was turning off "In-Pocket detection". I know it's been mentioned somewhere before but I suspected it was the problem from the beginning, although it may not be. So far however I have not had the problem. Seems kinda the same as what happens during a call where you take the phone away from your face expecting the screen to come on but it does not. Had that problem constantly with OG, can't recall if it has happened on the Bionic. I will say I agree the phone seems to be warm when it happens but then again it has been in my pocket. One more thing came to mind on this I always face the screen towards my leg when I put it in my pocket. I usually wear a belt case but didn't have one til a couple days ago, I was wondering if sweat or dampness in my pocket could cause this if the power button was inadvertently pushed while in my pocket. I know any moisture drives these screens crazy. Just throwing it all out there, hopefully it helps.

I've had the BSOD about 5 times in less than a week. Today I noticed my LED light flashing pink while the phone was just sitting idle beside me. I wasn't able to turn the screen on without doing a battery pull (as always). This was the first time I saw the LED flashing pink though.

Personally, I find it completely unacceptable to have my phone freezing up like this. I had it happen once at work while team members were trying to contact me and I didn't even notice the phone had the BSOD until long after I missed the calls/messages. To top things off, it's a pain in the %&@ to have to take apart my Otterbox case and open the Bionic to pull the battery and then put it all back together. Call me impatient, but I don't think I'm going to risk waiting for a possible software update to fix the problem!

p.s. I'm using standard battery with in-pocket detection off

Ive had the phone since the 15th and today it happened for the 2nd time. Both with the extended battery.

My wife and I both bought Bionic's and ditched our 3G iphones after 3 years. She's not so happy. Her's has had the BSOD several times. Mine only once.

Mine just bricked up again. That's the 4th or 5th time now. Getting annoying. Ugh.

Just happened to me for the first time yesterday. Was working fine all day. Pulled it out of my pocket and it would not start up. Black screen with LED flashing. I pulled the battery and put it back and everything was fine.

What is this all about?

I have had it happen once on one of my bionics too. But, I can recall it happening on my Droid X, once or twice as well.

Over the weekend, I've had 3 Black screens, and my best friend has had 1 on his Bionic too.

Can't figure out what we have in common that is causing the issue.

I have had my bionic since launch day and just got BSOD for the first time. I am using the extended battery, which was almost fully charged, and the phone was just sitting on my desk when it happened.

Ive had my bionic for almost 2 weeks now. Not rooted, standard batter and its happened to me 4 times. All 4 times were when the phone was in my pocket. I was wondering if maybe the buttons were getting pushed in a certain order that was making this happen, but from what Ive read, that dosent seem to be the case. My led always seems to be flashing green, but phone wont respond. I have to pull the battery to get the phone to boot back up. Each time, it takes me a while to even notice that the phone has locked up. Ive never seen when it happens and only discover it when I pull it out because it seems like its been a long time since I have recieved a notification for something.

Same for me. Just got the BSOD for the first time yesterday. Also just got the extended battery 2 days ago. Happened about 10:30 est yesterday. Pulled the battery and had no further issues.

I have used a Droid-X for over a year with no problems other than short battery life that we all experience. I purchase a Bionic the second day it was released, hoping maybe the screen was brighter and of a finer pitch. Unfortunately NO brighter despite what the salesman stated. The BSOD occurred 2 times with new Bionic over the first week. I had to reinsert the battery to get the phone to function. Verizon corporate person said I needed an extended time battery. This made no sense, but they were selling the larger battery for half off. So I figured I usually purchase the larger batteries anyway, therefore this might be a cheap fix. BSOD occurred again a few days later. Returned the phone to local Verizon corporate office and received an exchange. BSOD happened again one week later, in fact twice in the last 24 hours. I"m getting tired of this problem on a new phone that costs $300.00. The BSOD usually occurs at night but not always. Tech support has suggested to change to the performance mode on the battery manager, since it was mentioned in this forum.

Does anyone know what causes this problem?? It's kinda unacceptable to say the least.
