Re: Have you install Google Wallet APK????

I did the same as you and entered the PIN first. I was afraid that it wouldn't work and I would be looking crazy if I didn't lol.

The directions say that you don't have to have the app open and it would work but I think I've read somewhere that people were having issues without it open.

I don't know how it would work if the app wasn't open. I mean you have to enter a PIN. I can't imagine a PIN entry without an open app to ask for it.

I originally had the one you had to flash, and all you had to do was unlock your phone and put it next to the pay pass terminal. It would fc before the app opened tho. Using the apk, I had to open the app and enter the pin. It worked perfectly tho...

If you watch the video (there is a video in the app that appears the first time you install it), it suggests that if you simply tap the phone to the receiver, the phone will wake up and the app will open and request your PIN. It would be nice if it worked that way.

Re: Have you install Google Wallet APK?

I'll have to watch the behavior again, however, I used it twice today to buy coffee at the office and only remember opening the app the first time. Kind of helps that 'the office' is MasterCard and the cafeteria and kiosk use pay pass.

Re: Have you install Google Wallet APK?

used it at best buy today. the cashier said "what kind of phone is that! " i said it was a galaxy nexus and he asked me if they decided to put google wallet on there. i just said, "no, but I did." He just laughed and said "oh, ok. "

I went to McDonald's tonight after installing the Wallet apk. Actually, I went to two different McDonald's locations.

First time I went to order an actual meal. I tried to use the NFC chip with my Otterbox Defender case on. No dice. I thought I followed the instructions per the app, but the app didn't pull up or anything, so I paid by regular debit card.

I decided I was pretty damn determined to try this thing out, so I went to a different McDonald's to order a coffee (peppermint mocha, FYI). This time I had the Wallet app opened and I took the phone out of the Defender case and it worked flawlessly! Really quick. There were a bunch of people standing in line around me and they got really quiet all of a sudden when I paid for my coffee just by laying my phone on the credit card terminal.

So now that I knew that the app and NFC worked, I decided to put my phone back in the Defender case. I got up the courage to go back up to the register and asked for a bag of cookies (yes, a bag of cookies...) so I can start another transaction, this time with the phone in the case. The Wallet app and the reader were trying to communicate but the transaction just wouldn't go through. The cashier seemed a little peeved because she had to get a manager to void the transaction. So that kinda killed my showing-off...

So moral of the story: It doesn't work very well with the Otterbox Defender, which makes it kind of a hassle for me because I don't like to carry a naked phone or take the time to take it out of the case to pay for something.

If you do not have it open and place your phone ip against the terminal it will open the app to the pin page.......so you dont have to open it first it will open automagically....but you still got to put the pin in and the n put it up against the terminal again. I find it easier to open it while im in line and put mybpin in so im ready when i get to the register to blow the cashiers mind.

It doesn't? I've used it twice now, APK version, and it behaved exactly as it should both times.

Re: Have you install Google Wallet APK????

Installed it and used it at where I work. (which was accompanied by dumb-founded stares by my co-workers and associates)

I'm wary of adding money to the gift card, however, just in case Google decides to try and kill access to the app.

This is it right here. Just stopped at the kiosk this morning and took the same steps. Put your pin in while you're in line and then just swipe away when you are ready to pay. Works easy. Side note: Not using a case on the GNex so can't speak to functionality there.

Google Wallet (known as GW for short from here on out), works even faster than using a credit card to swipe.

Because with a CC or Cash, you can't actually start the transaction until you get up to the register, it takes a bit longer. But with GW, you can essentially authenticate the app while you're in line, and then when the items are ringing up you just tap it to the receiver and it's near-instant.

Has anybody tried to do it while items are still being rung up? With most credit card machines, you can enter your CC info while items are still ringing. Will GW work the same?

authenticate the app while you're in line = getting your credit card or cash out of your wallet while you're in line.

Just sayin..... :) BTW I do use GW.

It looks like this is just the actual Google app download for Android, all Verizon did was block it from the Android market when accessed from the Nexus. Yeah, I was paranoid at first too, but understand it a lot better now why it has to be installed this way now that I have it working - my phone is not rooted!

I just used mine to make a purchase at McDonald's. Worked great even with the otter box defender case on.
